Interesting yoke on this reel. Seems very comparable to the Penn Reels. I saved a Penn 185 Seaboy yesterday thanks to you Dennis! Keep the excellent videos coming!
Seems like every manufacturer was after Penn back in those days. They could simulate but never recreate. Purchased one of these Mitchell's at a consignment shop a few years ago for five bucks. It's a nice reel with the classic crack in the right side housing. Thanks Dennis!
And the thing is, Penn was after Ocean City at the time, trying to make a better reel...cheaper. They set the bar and others tried to reach for it. Those Garcia Mitchells were a unique, not a copycat design and they have stood the test of time. Unfortunately the company went bankrupt and ironically, the remains have now become part of the Penn, Pure Fishing, family. Best wishes - Dennis
That entire series used the same design and most of the parts are interchangeable. The service process is the same regardless of which model you are working on.
@@2ndChanceTackle thanks for that info. I have already serviced my 600,but worth knowing about the parts,in case I would pick up another model..... could use it for the parts. 🎣
This is a nice looking reel. Again I’ve never seen this one. I’m pretty confident of my knowledge of the Garcia Mitchell spinning reels especially the saltwater ones. I know nothing of the Garcia Mitchell conventional reels. If they are as nice as the spinners then they must be really great! I like the different mechanism!. By the way I just got that Peerless Bam surf spinning reel. It didn’t cost as much as I thought it would. Ever since I got the Mer 52 Punch Reel and Armando Reyes told me it looked like a Peerless Bam I have been looking for one. I have been told that Peerless Bam is the only company in France still manufacturing fishing reels. You know how much I love the vintage French reels - Mitchell, Luxor Peerless Bam, Bretton, etc. Historically they have manufactured some outstanding reels. I’ve tried to collect as many of the saltwater spinning ones I can find (and afford.) I’ll send you a photo of this Peerless Bam reel to your email. This Garcia Mitchell conventional reel is different and I always like vintage different! Good job Dennis!
I found an excellent 602. For £10 If you can operate without a level wind, it great. I had an intrepid seastreak and 602 ap back in the 70s prefer fixspool for casting theses days. 602 for kayak and boat fishing.
I have a shimano calais and don't know how to take off the gear side of the reel . How do I get it off? love your videos and have learned so much.I watch every day. Thank you for what you do
OK - I think I know the reel, or can at least get you headed in the right direction. It appears that the side plate has screws that attach from behind. First remove the handle, star adjuster and external washers from the gear side. Next look at the reel from behind the gear side plate. You should see one or two screws, probably near the bottom left and right. Those will need to come out. Next, remove the spool by disconnecting the non-gear side plate. There should probably be one or two more screws inside the spool cavity on the gear side that would be the last to remove before you can free the side pate from the frame. These reels vary, so you may have more or less, so closely examine the reel. Whatever you do, don't try to force it off by prying. If it isn't coming pff with hand strength, you've missed a connection. If you still can't get it after you do the above, send me pictures and I will try to help further Thanks for asking and for your kind words - Dennis
Thanks for the info. I have his reel. I wanted to do a minor clean up and put on new line. Currently pulling off the old line. It seems that there a spots that are tighter to turn on the reel than others. The line comes off alternating between tension and loose over and over as line is pulled out. Any ideas?
Way to go you hit 11.000 subs i'm watching every day keep up the good work!!!.
Awesome! Thank you! I appreciate the folks that have made this happen dn continued to watch. Please stay well and stay watching - Dennis

Great to hear! Those Seaboy 185s are beasts. They are a Penn Jigmaster in a traditional frame. Nice for the price. Best wishes - Dennis

Keep safe and keep up the great work. 🎣

Sorry to hear that it can't be repaired. Spare parts are always a good alternative. Thanks for the note - Dennis

Lack of oil and grease or old grease on the gears would be my first guess. Possibly trapped or broken line inside the spool as well.
I took the reel apart and found on drag assembly the top washer was bent. Is this normal. Thanks again the the information
Yes - the top washer is concave and it is a spring/tension washer for the star drag adjuster. That is normal to be bent
Hi, can this be converted to left hand wind?
No. These were only set up for a right handed crank - Thanks for asking - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle Much appreciated Dennis.
