Ughh everytime I see or hear the term "energy efficient" used in audio, I immediately know that the system must suck. It tells me that the marketing team could not come up with anything good to say about the stereo system.
I also got in the "home movie trap" but then woke up use pure stereo system again-and not "d" class. I had several good old stereo models from 1992,in 2001 changed to av (first sony qs then onkyo) but I missed the soul and performance with music so returned to a mid class marantz stereo amp paired with a marantz cd player 😎 I forgot the avs forever.
I have a 1994 STR-D1015 receiver. It was the highest end of the regular lineup and was actually an entry-level ES receiver with the same high current parallel/push-pull amplifier. I love it! I have it hooked up to my 1994 Infinity SM 102, 65, SM video surround system. With an Interlude subwoofer. That equipment is gorgeous! Don't ever sell it!
I always love to see those high end Sony audio products especially the ES class , one of the top of the line beautiful design and the hardware still the best . Still very good maintained well 👍🏻
Man, back then, activating your Hi-Fi felt like activating a space ship. I used to own a pair of those APM speakers between 1989 and 2007. They produced the purest base I’ve ever heard.

I remember this era VERY WELL as a kid in the 80's / 90's it was cutting edge stuff with at least a dozen high quality HiFi brands on the market, competition was so healthy as these house hold brand names pushed boundaries & limits light years ahead of its time. Internet has truly killed the HiFi star, materials used these days are plastic moulded garbage only built to last it's warranty of 1 or 2 years. I feel blessed to have witnessed the Goldern Era of HiFi first hand.
@airmag Yeah remember Toshiba, Panasonic -National (prior to their split) & Sanyo just to name a few not so popular today. Bluetooth technology is another huge reason for true HiFi being a lost art of audio. I crave to jump in a time machine and just stay in the 70's-mid 90's never to return.
I miss the old electronic button cassette players. Even though there was a delay once you pressed the button, I just liked to hear a motor inside working to move things inside. Mechanical was often too rough and primitive.
What I miss the most is buttons, you feel connected to something you psysically push rather than just touch/swipe. Touch control hell on everything from stovetops, dishwashers and stereos. Theres only one answer: its cheaper. Everything becomes more and more sterile and streamlined, and in the end cost efficient. But I think it has gone to far, the next step is a hybrid between buttons and screens I think. Someone just has to be first on it.
Problem today is that most people don't care about high quality music anymore. They can have their cheap produced rap music for 1-2 bucks. I am musician and compose my music with 32-bit 192kHz, and release it with 24-Bits and 192kHz. So you can listen to every detail. I don't can understand why there are people, listen to 16-Bit 44,1 or 48kHz Music. Okay, bad quality means "it can be much louder", but there are no details anymore.
I have a pair of APM-141ES speakers which I bought new in 1991 the first year they came out. They are 32 years old and still sound awesome. A testament to the ES series! The speakers in this video are the APM-22ES MKII.

Oh yes. The TC-K950 ES is still on deck 😂 in my system and yes, as Stereophile said in their only review of a cassette deck, the only cassette deck that can actually recreate a soundstage.
Still have a Sony system in my living room! Nothing beats old school.
Man what ever happened to these awesome stereo systems we had back in the eighties and nineties?
Сейчас все снова возвращается, устали уже слушать новодельные аппараты 😊
Now they make that energy efficient D class rubbish stereo systems.

Absolutely beautiful.... I've got the d505 and that's still stunning
I advise turning the power amp on AFTER the pre amp, with some amps you might get a power on pop which can easily blow a tweeter

Lovely, apparently one of the best amps Sony ever made, I went the pioneer a400 route instead but did like the sound of it
