I have a son on the way in about a month. And my lady and I decided to give our son the middle name Emmett, in honor of Emmett Till. As a man who is half black, I want my children to know what our history truly was...not what the media and our school system tries to change it as.

@MMARZ 7 Just like Bill Duke, it wasn't just one comment from one moment of my life. The racism continued on throughout my schooling years to this day. That kid learned to call me that word from his parents, I know because he told me later down the years. My point was racists will continue to oppress and teach their children to oppress others to the extent the law and society will allow. Back in Bill Duke's day it was still acceptable to kill innocent blacks without due process and not atone for the crime. It's not like that happens anymore today right? Oh wait... And I would challenge your statement that historically nobody has called black people the n-word in a negative derogatory fashion more than racists. I would encourage you to learn your own history and culture, your real history and culture before trying to judge another culture you can't understand. You'll see that history is repeating itself and those that are aware are trying to make a real change.

All of 43 years I never knew my grandmother hated white ppl, up until I over heard her mumbling one day as a white woman passed by her house as we sat on the porch. I was so surprised I had to ask. She told me when she and her siblings was kids they would walk past an spit on them while calling the niggers & exc for no reason whatsoever. That foolishness broke my heart bcz I couldn't imagine nor did I knew that my grandmother had ever experienced that type of hatred. She kepted it so bottled up had I never walked out on the porch that day I would've never known the mistreatment nor the type of hatred my ppl faced back then... Sihp Granny I miss you like soul food....

Oppression??? Just 4 months ago this year, a white dietitian was working at the VA hospital in Mishewaka Indiana, was passing out tomato plants to all of the white veterans, but did not offer or give any of the "Black" veterans any of those tomato plants. I reported it to the VA leadership and NOTHING was done about it...in fact, they even took up for her. The struggle is still real even today.
