I love Irwin's singing no matter what song he does. But I need to comment regarding the comparison with The Beatles singing. They came from a time where they taught themselves everything, no lessons or teachers. Vocally they became the masters of very direct natural vocal delivery. The opposite of how everyone now thinks they are expected to sing today, because of all the American Idol, or The Voice, or whichever TV talent contest. Nowdays because of the TV shows, everyone thinks every word has to be embellished with runs up and down to give it 'soul'. It's a modern thing. John and Paul both had great range, could use all registers of their voice, and could both sing as hard or as soft as they liked, lots of different textures. If you ever get a chance to watch the videos of them live in Washington in 1964, you'll see they could sing just like the record with no autotune, monitors, or earpieces, basically deaf. With 10000 girls screaming constantly. Locked together and with complex harmonies. You should never discount The Beatles as vocalists.

Agree. I'm over the constant runs. For me, doesn't add to the song/performance.

Well said Scott, IMHO I've always thought a vocal melody line is written for a reason, to be sung. So if a singer is looking to embellish the melody line they need to respect the composition & do so in such a way that they enhance the melody & not distort it. John Farnham is a perfect example where he uses his extraordinary vocal gifts wisely to push the boundaries where needed but never going beyond them. Jon Anderson from Yes or Pavarotti rarely embellish their singing, when they do it is subtle, no one could say their music lacked soul.

This song is about the civil rights movement of the 1960s, McCartney wrote it about the rise of equal rights for African-Americans.

The host, Dennis Walter is himself an acclaimed Australian singer that guested on Young Talent Time regularly. Not requesting a reaction, but if you want to check out one amazing voice for your own enjoyment, try this th-cam.com/video/TIGfCyPNqKY/w-d-xo.html

Big Guy - for your own listening pleasure, check out Jon Batiste's excellent solo performance of this from The Late Show 2016 on TH-cam. Music The Beatles wrote will be rediscovered, reinterpreted and outlive us all.
