Cycle and you don't need taxi , just allot of time ;) Yes, the crossing was pretty painless. And it is true, accomodation is more expensive in Myanmar and lower quality. I guess that will change. Thanks for sharing, and check out my crossing on bicycle if you have the time ;)
for getting a thai visa for 6 months its required to show a bus ticket from thailand to mayanmar or a guesthouse booking in mayanmar (bec one has to leave the Thailand after 2 months). could you suggest a guesthouse one can book online or bus agency?

+Vinnie Gaul we wanted to see the Golden Rock and from what we found, the trains were a little less consistent and could take a lot more time. I'm not sure there's even a train from Mawlamyine to the Golden Rock.
