Another tip, make a bunch of cobblestone stairs and put them on your little stairwell going down to your mining area. That way you don’t burn through all your energy when you are coming back up to the surface. It is also cheaper to use a stone cutter to make your stairs instead of taking six blocks and making it in a crafting table.
