The shopkeepers in the village were so lovely!! I love how much they interacted and spoke to you guys, and how well they recommended the food they were selling.
Another Amazing Video from "The CEO" & Sharmander! I have to admit, I'm going to miss Sharla in Tokyo Creative's videos when she heads back to Korea. 😢
I lived in Kumamoto for years but left months before the Earthquake and have not seen the devastation.. It makes me sad but happy. That being said, I'm so glad you all stopped there, it brings back so many memories. If doubt you're still there, but if you ever go back I recommend trying to go to Aso and Mt. Aso and getting some horse skewers, flying cow cookies, caramel pudding, or volcano nikuman, and try out the hotsprings - they're very beautiful.
I think this is one of my favorite videos of yours you've done. I only knew Kumamoto by name until this video, and this video has been such a lovely introduction to a lovely place in the world. I've always gone "I want to go to Japan" but I never really knew *where* in Japan I wanted to go. Kumamoto just rose to the top of that list.
I really like how Chris always specifies USD instead of just saying dollars. More than 20 countries use the word "dollar" for their currency, so its nice that he is more specific, as it helps to avoid confusion.
Thanks guys! That was a perfect mix of education, food, and insanely friendly locals. I wish I could get as excited about ANYTHING as Sharla did about that orange juice.
I think it's so cute that you're trying to promote Kumamoto Castle - it really deserves it. I haven't been to Kumamoto Castle in about 10 years, but I REALLY liked it. I have been to way over 150 Japanese castles by now and Kumamoto is certainly somewhere up in my top list. When I realized what the quake had done to the castle, I was really sad. :( But I guess sooner or later it's the fate of every castle. :( Let's hope the original castle towers will survive a loooooong time. :)
zoomingjapan what are your thoughts on Nagoya Castle? My favorite one!! I went this Summer and there were these Ninja people sneaking up in photos! It was awesome!
@@g17asahandle I really like the outer appearance of Nagoya Castle. It's utterly beautiful. However, the interior is boring. I prefer the original castles a lot more. But Nagoya Castle is definitely worth a visit. However, currently the main tower is closed due to reconstruction works. :)
The Tokaido road was the road from Kyoto to Tokyo used back in the feudal period in Japan, and has rest stops, or "stations" that people would stop at to eat and rest on the long journey. There are still a few stations around today on the old road! There were "post towns" that sprung up along these roads, of which you can still see today. Something I definitely wanna do when I finally visit!
I’m also amazed they didn’t know. Even the most basic reading would tell you about the security on the Tokaido (and elsewhere) during the Shogunate but on the top of that there is Hiroshige’s famous ukiyo-e woodcut prints.
That lady that speaks three languages seems sweet and that man that sold you guys the sweet potatoes treats seems really nice. Love how impressed he was with Sharla’s Japanese.
This is some special content you got there. Truly Tokyo Creative. Very respectful and appreciative of the region whilst showing the enjoyable things to do.
Tokyo Creative, thank you for making this. I came here because I live in Kumamoto province's sister state--Montana. I'm working on a minor holiday and I wanted a pick-me-up before I dove into my day. I am proud that Kumamoto City's people are so kind and helpful! Thank you Kumamoto, for being so inspiring. I look forward to working late!
Wow, Kumamoto just climed high in my want to see list. Castle, good food and friendly people. It is strange after watching so many travelig videos, one place can strand out that much. One of my favorit videos, good vibes all around.
You two are great together - in my next life I am coming back as Sharla - I love Japanese culture - the people are awesome and the landscape amazing! That food looked wonderful!
I was lucky enough to go inside the castle more than year before earthquake, great memory of samurai performances inside. I love the area, so sad this happened.
Half way through the video and I'm sold! I have to add this place to my bucket list. Locals are amazing and food looks absolutely delicious! BTW, thank you for covering this place, it doesn't get enough recognition. I agree with Sharla's older video about how Tokyo is...kinda overrated? Not in a bad way!! Just there is so much to see outside of it that it's really a shame is you limit yourself to just Tokyo!
19:12 I think the 53 stations on the tokaido-road are the so called _宿 shuku_ and these are places to stay along the road between Edo/Tokyo and Kyoto :)
In my trip trough Japan I visited Kumamoto for a couple of hours to visit Miyamoto Musashi’s cave, where he wrote the book of five rings. Awesome place to visit. However seeing this video, I think we should have given the actual city itself more time. Great video guys :)
I was in Kumamoto for a day on my visit through Japan and you are right, the residents there are so much more social. I was all over the country but, only there was I engaged in such a way that they seemed to truly want to know about you or connect with you on such a level. My friends and I remember it fondly.
