I'm a retired farmer and really had no grasp as to how seed corn was grown. Amazing video, Mike. Thanks!

    Thanks for another great video!
I used to farm in the lower MS Delta. Corn has replaced a lot of cotton here but never seen seed corn grown. Fun to see it being picked. Why don't they just shell in the field in a regular combine? Is there too much damage to seed kernels? A visit to seed corn processor and how seed is handled would be a good video.
Beautiful fields also. Has much of that land been leveled?

Thanks for the great video mike. I actually was just talking to someone about how they pick seed corn. I am no expert but this was nice to know.

    Another great video, thanks!
Looks can be deceiving, but it would appear that the moisture is less than desirable, at least for the seed corn companies I’m familiar with. They usually want to pick the corn “wet” and control the drying themselves.

There is a lot of seed corn near me. One early job was detasseling seed corn.

mfreund15448 I live next door from Ploeger, the other half of the Ploeger-Oxbo Group (located in the Netherlands) and man, you could spend a month in their halls looking at all that’s being developed. My favorite are the pea harvesters, so much detail! I actually prefer the OG Ploeger colors though I’ve no idea what the American obsession with that construction yellow is tbh.

I would second the thought on a video inside the processing plant. Also, I would think that the harvest in the ear allows the complete gentle shelling and elimination of foreign matter such as leaves and cobs to be easier on a fixed location. Additionally, aren't the cobs used for feed products?

So if you had 1 acre of seed corn like in the vid how many acres of corn seeds would be produced? Great video 👍👍

Why are they using such small trailers to haul the corn from the field?

I've never seen seed corn harvested, always thought they used modified combine.

Weird how the rim design keeps the husks in them, build up and slide. I have never seen that happen before. Dose it wear the paint off? Nice to see the seed corn being picked.

It’ll definitely wear the paint. I think you can see evidence of that already happening at the end of the video. It looks to me like there’s a darker “band” inside the left front rim, like the paint is being worn through to the base metal.

The flatness of land in farming country takes my breath away. I have lived in Alaska all my life and the lack of mountains is strange. Almost like being on the ocean I would guess.
