  • Why Can't you mount and dismount a 11R22.5 tire both ways. I want to find out! Changing steer tires on my L8000 Dump truck. I messed up dismounting, but my point can still be made. #tires #dumptruck

Thanks for putting the transmission part in. Mines so caked in grease and old oil I could even find the plugs. This helped !

Apply the tire mounting compound to the INSIDE tire area on the second bead mounting over the rim ! These are drop center rims .

I believe what the reasoning for the directional mounting was from back in the days of split rims from when they were running bias ply tires. Those came off on the side of the split ring. Did away with those once radials came around. Lot of old timers confuse dayton/spoke hubs as being split ring wheels, which they are compatible with, but are usually not in this day and age. Split ring wheels can be identified by the "slit" perpendicular to the bead surface. They come off like a giant C clip.
Bias tires were a lot stiffer than radials and went on hard. So you needed a disassembleable rim to install them. Once radials got popular they were discontinued for safety reasons. Nice truck
If you don't mind buying 80% tires, you can get used truck tires (virgin even) from truck salvage yards for like $150 a piece and those are name brand tires.
To get a Dayton to run true, spin it around while its jacked up, put a piece of wood or something next to it, stop it at the high spot and torque that nut down more. Repeat as needed. (see you already got that down lol, commented too soon)

That makes sense! I did alot of 16.5 split rims on old trucks and fork lifts, i can see how these look like split rims and may confuse someone.
