    My work is replacing these with newer millers and otc daihen welders. I asked if I could get one of them that they were getting rid of and they said sure. Haven't been able to use it yet, but I've used them at work countless hours. very nice welders, but they have probably the worst menu of any welder with this many options. lol They give us 100 options that we have to sift through on an alarm clock from the 80s.

    Common miller, why does everything got to be hidden in 15 different menus. Just have it all out there easy to see. I know then it looks cluttered for the newbie welder but there are not many newbie welders that are going to buy this unit. I know what all the settings are and what they do I weld aluminum boats as a job but why do I have to open a hidden menu scroll through it only to find out the setting I want to change is in the other hidden menu scroll through it to finally change the setting. Have it all showing kinda like the dynasty dx models although they still have a hidden menu in thought as well with the wave form and that stuff, it is just a huge pain.

    • @goneal86
      @goneal86 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      exactly. I know this post is ancient, but even the new millers are only slightly better. Still too much sifting through menus. At my work we have these, some newer millers and otc daihen welders. the OTC welders look intimidating at first because there are so many buttons and such, but after you get used to it, it is waaaaay less of a pain to adjust the setting you want, because there is no menu. They have even more options and I can see every setting from across the room. No menus or screens with buried options. My work just gave me an old 350p, but haven't used it yet. They are great welders, but terrible menu design.

    Oh, forgot to add, changing out rollers???? Just how many times is this done on a machine that is set up for Aluminum only? I have been welding for many years and have NEVER just swapped wire sizes for the fun of it. In fact I can't ever think of any time that I have set up a machine and then changed. I set mine up for 035 and there is has never been any feed issue at all with the wire to the liner. Rule #1 of Aluminum MIG welding is to set the drive roll tension light as to not do this. But you would have to know about aluminum welding first.

    • @mrgreenswelding2853
      @mrgreenswelding2853 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottgilly1 i have a question for you.
      i get so much smut and have tried everything to reduce it. how can i reduce the smut?

    • @scottgilly1
      @scottgilly1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you pushing or pulling the weld? The weld for aluminum should be pushed or you will get the black soot. Also 5356 wire will give more soot than 4043 wire. When all is set right and your travel speed is correct with 4043, there will almost no soot, if any at all. Clean weld.

    • @mrgreenswelding2853
      @mrgreenswelding2853 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottgilly1 always pushing, never pull. i need to run 5356 as i do mostly marine stuff.

    • @mrgreenswelding2853
      @mrgreenswelding2853 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottgilly1 also as soon as the wire hits to start the arc there is smut.

    • @scottgilly1
      @scottgilly1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do marine as well on 5086 material and 5052 material. I know that 5356 is the recommended filler, but I have never seen an issue with the 4043. I would check your argon flow and play with that, but there is no way to get the smut completely out with 5356 wire. What machine are you running and what material are you welding?

  • @kennethwatson2762
    @kennethwatson2762 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One major design flaw I see id the LOOONG distance from the drive rollers to the liner feed tip. I can very much assure you there will be some cussing with a wadded up wire there. ESPECIALLY when trying to install 035 alum wire. There needs to be a nylon insert cut to a V pushed right up between the rollers. Next I cant believe that it takes tools to change out the rollers. I have a 15year old welder with a twist lock system that takes seconds to change with no tools. Not exactly a new idea.

    • @andolinithedon
      @andolinithedon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenneth Watson any good welder (or boss) should know how to set up this welder or a welder for that matter before they begin. after that, adjustments can be made depending on thickness of metal. the wire should only bunch up at the wheels, no matter the distance, if you have a bad spool, liners, wheels, triggers, or tips (after longated use, of course). maybe the reason your welders may or may not be adjusting the machine is because of the dollar amount your paying and/or lack of skill

    Next is push pad selectors for set up rather than a two way toggle switch is very very aggravating. When you are setting up and u want to back up and make a change. YOU CANT. You have to toggle ALL THE WAY AROUND THE PROGRAM AGAIN to get back. I am paying a man 15-20$ a hour I don't want him playing with the welder settings all day. I need him welding

    If you would have hired a retired welder rather than 3 freekin 20 year old yeepies with 2 degrees a piece to help you build a good welder you wouldn't have any of these problems. Or at least have a welder look over and use it before releasing it. You do know this machine want always be brand new;in a controlled setting; with a miller trained tek guy using it. Design it for the real world weld shop.

    Who wrote this script. You are treating your viewer as if they don't have any welding experience, and they are brand new at welding. Which would be ok if you were promoting a bottom end weekend warrior machine, but your not. You're advertising a very expensive machine that beginners just will never, never buy. Only experienced welders will buy that machine. We don't need you to tell us how to set a regulator, change wheels, tips etc. So while your pretending we are not smart enough to set up a machine, it's you whose not smart enough to know the audience you're preaching to. Typical corporate America.

    The comments here are funny. If you are wadding up $100 rolls of wire, you have an idiot welding. Turn the machine off and go hand out buggies at Wal Mart. Second is the set up? What is comes down to is another idiot. Can work and iPhone, but can't operate a 3 button machine? Come on. You select the gun, wire, size of wire, mode and any timers that you may want. Really not that hard. Productivity? Greatly increased over a spool gun. Weld quality? Can't compare to straight MIG. Cost savings for me? Ha, easy one. 3 ea 13 lb spools of 5356 .035 wire, not a single wadded up roll and not a single contact tip. Oh, I don't spend all day dicking with the settings. I spend my day welding.
