The United States of America is a very LARGE and DIVERSE country, with hundreds of different types of cultures, cities, and natural scenery. So in order to determine which states and territories are the best (and worst), we analyze a few categories including their economy, climate, cost of living, crime and safety, education, health, and quality of life. I also implemented the pros and cons of each location and my personal experiences as I have lived in 10 and visited 52 of the 55 states and territories on this list!
Whether you want empty space to homestead and buy cheap land, OR live in a big walkable city with plenty of amenities, the US has it all! So my biggest suggestion is to visit these cities, towns, and state before you decide where you want to move to and live.
*Which US State or Territory would YOU want to live in the most?*

Curious to know: which state or territory surprised you the most in this ranking and why? Let's start a friendly discussion and see if we have any hidden gems in the USA!
it is texas. a surprising place
I can't believe New York is ranked in that ranking order.
Which one surprised you the most?
Alabama. I was expecting AL and MI together. I watch this for the bottom 10.

I'm British - us Europeans often think of the USA being similar from coast to coast, but this video really hammers home how different the states are. It's mindblowing to me that some states have worse life expectancies than Bangladesh while others are richer than Switzerland!
Excellent comment! I learned a lot from him about USA (more than from my school)
The US is very diverse.
Don’t be fooled by life expectancy data. The number given is an average of all the people. If one state had a large number of men dying from prostate cancer, the state average would be lower, but it would not affect women’s life expectancy. If there is a high homicide rate, the life expectancy would be lowered because most victims are young men, thereby lowering the life expectancy rate. On e again, women’s rate is unaffected. In a state with a high breast cancer death rate, men would not be affected. Averages of anything tell us very little especially when the things measured also differ. All in all, not a very informative video, but good for deterring foreigners.
Yes USA is a very LARGE and DIVERSE, It will very interesting for him to produce a video to compare USA vs Europe vs Asia?
I always culture/standard of living is always determined far more by cities rather than country/state/region. Even within these states living in some areas vs others make huge differences.

As a resident of northern South Carolina, it’s relatively peaceful here. Most of the bad things in our state are in the central region. The cost of living where I live is very affordable, and the Blue Ridge mountains are beautiful. I can definitely see why people are moving to South Carolina.
The politics and Sharia law. WTH ? Send them home
The military moved me to SC, and no, it’s not the worst places I’ve lived, but it’s a pretty crappy state. It’s overrun by Ohioans, outside of Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville, the state is straight trash and poor. People move here to move close to the beach, which is highly overrated. I can’t wait to leave (grow faster, grandkids)
@@BraddoxIke-man it’s christian nationalism.

I get a lot of astonished gasps from friends when I tell them that I thought Hawaii was the most boring place I had been. Beautiful, etc…but just no ZING.

Amazing video! I love it, Very interesting 55 states & MA is the best finally 1.10.2024
Yes MA is the best
finally MA is better than NH
Grateful l to be living in MA. Best state by far.
If Massachusetts is the best state in the US then I don't want to be here anymore. Came out of college and worked for Amazon in Fall River, the place was a dump. Then I worked for a consulting company that worked in the greater Boston area, but because of the cost lf living I had to live in Worcester. I had to pay 1500 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment with only road side parking and it was infested with mice. We would hear the mice in the vents and walls, they would fall in the vent system, they were in our oven, we cooked burgers one day and an hour later there were two rolling in the grease in the pan. The celings were 12 feet high and the fire alarm would keep us up literally all night from randomly going off. The winters were harsh as well. I had to learn ways to get unburied from snow real quick. People will shovel out a roadside spot and or salt it, then guard it claiming the spot. So many homeless people. By far they had the WORST drivers. The traffic gets so bad that people got used to just inching out into the road until trafffic is forced to stop. And round abouts.... So many round abouts. Fun fact Worcester has one of THE WORST intersections in the US, its called Kelly Square, the 11 way no light intersection.
I love MA. the smart state
Bingo, I've lived in Massachusetts and Southern New England my entire life and it's overrated. It's very difficult to live comfortably unless you make 6 figures. I know a family in Worcester where both the wife and husband work full time and they still haven't been able to afford a home. They're in their 40s! Eastern Mass is IMPOSSIBLE unless you're loaded with money.
A lot of people here are either socially awkward or midwits. Obviously not everyone is like this, and I know tons of great people in Mass. But if you leave the state, you'll notice a general attitude shift in people as soon as you hit Pennsylvania.
We have good education, and crime is low. But every state has bad areas and good ones. Worcester and Springfield have sketchy parts.
I hope you do leave, Massachusetts is a dead end for the lower middle class or young people trying to get off their feet. You might never own a home, start a family, or even make enough to live a comfortable life. I'm getting out ASAP. I can get a nice home in South Dakota or Kentucky for under $200k with plenty of job opportunities and good pay.
Also, they re-did Kelly Square, it's ironically a roundabout now, LOL. I remember the old one, that intersection was scary.
u were my favorite youtuber growing up and its great to see u doing what u love instead of making content about stuff u dont enjoy anymore
I completely disagree with your assumption of arkansas.Ive live here almost 2 years now and moved here from the rich suburbs of chicago.Things here in arkansas are 1000 times better than northern illinois.Much better health care.Cheaper taxes.Cleaner air.Much cleaner water.Positive working environment.Traded a average of 42 inches of snow for 9 inches of snow.So this video makes absolutely zero cents.
Arkansas is one of the least educated states in the nation. Based on your grammar, it's not surprising at all.

@ulfhednar_sentinel Truth! I live 30 minutes from Memphis therefore I listen to the local Memphis news every morning. Well, not every morning anymore. Now I mainly just listen to catch the weather because I got so sick of the nonstop news on shootings, murders, carjacking, robberies, etc. every single freaking day! I rarely go into Memphis. It is a real sh!t hole. I can't speak for Nashville because I have only been there twice.

Having been a Mississippian since 1961 living in Gulfport and Biloxi all that time I appreciate the lack of state tax on my retirement income both SS and pension. While wages are low that can be balanced against cost of living which narrows the gap with higher wage states. Having traveled in my working life I decided I am quite happy here.

I agree. New Mexico has some nice spots, but it really fell short on the important factors - economy, jobs, safety, quality of life. Most of the states surrounding New Mexico experienced rapid growth but New Mexico remained stagnant. The state is like a smaller, less-appealing Arizona.

I’m in Nevada, and I’m fine living here and working full time, but if I ever have a kid, I’d rather raise them in New England. I was born there, and my dad had to move us out because of the job market, but now? What state doesn’t want an experienced bacteriologist? Nevada is said to have all the big city problems and none of the big city benefits, but when they’re between projects, the roads and parking are great. But can you please mark the parking lots a bit better? Or reprogram the Garmins to guide you to them instead of to the front of the buildings?
I lived in Virginia for a while, in the Hampton Roads area, and the commutes and schools were awful. But there’s tons of fun stuff to do on weekends (a zoo, museums, historical Jamestown and Williamsburg, amusement parks and water parks and a beach the whole family can enjoy), so I’d recommend a family vacation there. Bring bug repellent.
I can’t believe that my state made first! You should’ve also included the best small villages and towns in the nation, because everywhere I go in my town is super nice and always helpful.

If you are serious about emigrating, do research carefully. Political information is easy to get, but a serious quality of life assessment is another matter. If you are from a first world country with a high cost of living and a cosmopolitan culture, do not move to an economically depressed region…the politics and the culture will be a serious blow.
Guns are everywhere in the USA…often in the hands of irresponsible people. Americans are messy…trash, potholes in the roads…

Make an video "every state that is a victim of the Detroit effect"
Detroit effect: an effect created by me, the Detroit effect is when an state has only one big city, if you live away from that city your life is Good or avarege, but if you live near or in the city your life is an hell hole, like Michigan whit Detroit or Illinois whit Chicago, the only ways to avoid that effect is, or having more than one big city like California that has San Francisco, LA etc, or not having any big city at all like Vermont
I'm from the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. When I went to Detriot, I barely saw anything "wrong." (Plus, it's getting better there.)

Great job, except I would not agree with some of your rankings, thanks.
So Massachusetts has the best education and then Harvard happens...
When they talk about Mass having the best education it's not the quality of the colleges and universities they are talking about (although many are among the best in the nation). They are talking about the quality of their public education system. Also to the fact that Mass has the highest percentage of citizens with college and advanced degrees.
smart brains - super safe - many jobs with high pay etc
Yeah, they can kissmyassachussetts!!! The people there are awful!
@@Warriorofthe ok bro that joke was kinda cringe I'm sorry but like come on man you can do better than that
@ilanlattke6092 idc if it's "kinda cringe" 😆
I moved to South Carolina and there’s a reason South Carolina is one of the fastest growing states. You seem to be making all your judgments for these states based on stereotypes. I thought it would all just be a bunch of farm land here but it’s actually a huge industry hub because of low taxes and partnerships with the universities. You call it one of the highest growing states then just move on because you don’t like it without actually knowing anything about the state. It has rapidly growing universities like Clemson. It has some of the fastest growing cities in the country like Greenville being in the top 10 in multiple ‘best small cities in US’ lists. And why do you say it has no good jobs? It is a pretty big industry hub especially with automotive and aerospace being in between both Charlotte and Atlanta having BMW, Boeing, GE, Michelin, Husqvarna. It is in the top half of the country for economy. Where are you getting your information? I think I would respect the placement more if you actually explained why you conveniently left a lot of factors why people move places off. The whole “I don’t know why people are moving here” really takes a hit on your credibility
You did a fantastic job with that list, pro’s and con’s in 20 seconds
Tennessee on the border with Virginia is nice for a small town feel. Tennessee isn’t just Nashville or, the high crime Memphis area. It’s not for everyone but, some of us are doing fine
Mississippi may rate last but as a move in I can tell you some of these things are true but I can also say it is one of the nicest places to live. The people are kind and caring and the weather is great except for July and August. You don’t have to be money hungry to live here. Comparing us to Bangladesh is just totally wrong.
It depends on what part of the state i would guess
This is very subjective. Depends what you think is important and what your willing to look the other way on
I’ve lived in Reno and would never go to Las Vegas. Pyramid Lake is beautiful . I’ve been here since 1997 and the health care is great and I was a nurse for 52 years. Lake Tahoe is beautiful and the economy is booming. Great Restaurants. Fine people . Lots of wilderness to explore. The Burning Man festival that was once judged has changed the City. The Black Rock desert is incredible and for one week out of the year Black Rock City has a post office and listed as a city. The art community is amazing and many of the art installations are purchased by the city of Reno and displayed for everyone to enjoy. I was born an raised in Wisconsin and Reno has attracted many from my home state. I lived in the North Woods for 13 years, close to the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior. Yes , the winters were tough at times, but the North Woods area has some of the best cross country skiing trails in the US.
Amazing video, we all love it
Amazing video with so much useful contents - well done!
Hi, Mango Tango js wanted to know if you will ever post on the other channel as it was really was my childhood. Thank you for one of the best childhoods no matter what anyone say
Happy to live in #5 Washington.
new yorker here, from the hudson valley (surprise, new york isn’t just nyc!), life is pretty good up here, not a lot of crime in my area, schools are pretty good, beautiful scenery, it’s pretty nice, i’m just from a small town, only around 4k residents
Amazing video - so much work to produce it.
Mannn you did Virginia so dirty! Also having states like Iowa, Wyoming, Nebraska, above it is insane 😂, and also saying the whole state is like a suburb of DC, has no city etc is ridiculous 😂
I said it's a shame most people see it as a glorified DC suburb, cause it is a lot more than that. But yes, it doesn't have an unique iconic city like a Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Charleston, etc.
va is overrated af
@@FromHeretoTherePeople see New Jersey as a NYC suburb haha
@@dlewis9760 is that any different from a metro area that has the same amount of high paying salaries though? I don’t believe so
@@FromHeretoThere Richmond, VA beach, Williamsburg, Lynchburg, Charlottesville, Alexandria to name a few. Guess more “historic” and under the radar than “iconic”
Our Territories in the Pacific Ocean have the best Americans I have been welcomed by. Not only because they don't vote to be politically divided because they don't get to vote. But it will come up to you personally and thank you for visiting them. But also, the best beaches that are isolated to eliminate tourist traps.
I think Mt. Washington in New Hampshire advertises the worsr weather on earth wins with 333mph wind speed record.
Hi I’m Australian I have two things to say our National Rugby League is coming to Las Vegas on March 1 as well as I was surprised that California was that low it’s crazy
“South Carolina was the fastest growing state in twenty-thousand-twenty-three and I don’t know why…?”
Maybe because you called 2023 “Twenty thousand-twenty three” and don’t realize the whole state has become a suburb of Cleveland. 😂 Not to mention the comparison to Alabama beaches was absurd.
Mississippi has had a historical bad rap. Yet, while the rest of the US school children steadily declined in education, our kids were climbing thanks to our Republican Governor. Mississippi is a fishing sportsman’s paradise and we have wonderful hiking trails. Mississippi is also the cheapest place for retirees. The low income of Mississippians is undeniably skewed by the large areas of welfare population governed by the Socialist Democrats. The true comparison would be between a city of a state with the city of another state that comparable by their sociopolitical make up. The Democratic run cities with evenly match racial diversity would score pretty much the same.
Interesting political opinions. LOL.
Mississippi and West Virginia are alike in many ways. They both rank at the bottom of just about everything, but politics are a very small part of it. Both states were heavily democrat many years ago, but now they're red states. Like it or not, both states are backward, impoverished, and full of uneducated rednecks. The difference is - West Virginia used to be more industrious back in the day. Mississippi, not so much.
A few of things you forgot about Puerto Rico. #1 - It is the only place on earth where a US Citizen can move to and not pay US personal Federal Taxes. 2# Does not have capital gain taxes. 3) With proper tax planning and sourcing allocations, a person can feasibly reduce their tax liability to nearly zero on income and assets generated and acquired once becoming a Puerto Rican resident.
What you should do is a video ranking the states but without including the big cities which skew stats like crazy. For example, the crime rate in the U.S. without including the 10 largest cities is one of the lowest in the world. The place is big and no one has to live in or near a big city in any state.
Any state that taxes social security will never get me as a resident.
12:24 Kansas has the _less_ cool *Kansas City* 😂
_very_ well played, sir
I’m from Colorado and the crime is high because more people are moving here more
As a Floridian I feel that our ranking of 17 was WAY too high. You didn't bring up the constant assault on our civil rights by our legislature, the terrible state of our infrastructure, or our awful schools. Yeah, if you've already got money and want to retire here life is good but for natives who have to work for a living and raise kids it's not going well.
Knowing state qualities helps retirement planning. Always good to weigh options for a fulfilling retirement.
California economy has declined in the past several years with high taxes and the increase of minimum wage causing layoffs. People are leaving ca and feel that the wind can possibly change direction there, politically.
As someone lived 15 years in Minnesota and 5 in San Francisco cali suburbs i mich preferred san Francisco
SSF (no homeless & many free car parking) is better than than SF
Excellent video, very educational & very enjoyable, well done
