To credit Lt. Marsh as an Air Force pilot is premature hyperbole; typical of bad reporting. She has a private pilot license that she earned as a civilian prior to entering the USAF Academy. But she has only a slot to enter USAF pilot training to earn her USAF wings. Her pilot training will be deferred until after she completes her master's degree at Harvard or at the end of her Miss America tenure - whichever comes later (or if the USAF revokes her deferral and requires her service earlier). Were it not for her Miss America duties and continuing education, she probably would be in pilot training now. Congratulations to her. She has a lot of work ahead of her. Let's root for her success!
