I wanted to write a review of this book that is basically the Emperor's Children would suck at SimCity. It was funny how bad at ruling Xantine is. Doesn't create any planet wide religion to Slaanesh or even a cult but manages to make one for Khorne.
The Adored: We're rats, we're rats, we're the rats. We pray at night, we stalk at night, we're the rats!
Xantine: I'm the giant rat that makes all of the rules.

Most emperor’s children are just egoistical man children chasing the next high and thinking they are the center of the universe. Guys like Fabius (yes even him), Eidolon and Lucius just have tastes that make them more active and usefull.

The Adored don't have a battleship. They have a Sword-class frigate which is one of the smallest warships in 40k. This might seem pedantic but it shows that the Adored are the temporarily embarrassed millionaires of the Emperor's Children. They also only had around ~40 marines under Xantine's command. There's a moment where an EC mocks Xantine by pointing out that Fulgrim has never even heard of him.

... I don't dislike him. He is a fine example of a "good" member of the Emperor's Children. I don't see anything at all he did wrong here. He did not damn the planet to be devoured. He gave them an alternative to that which they refused. The criticisms againt him are not really fair. It would be like shitting on Kharn for being a rage tard. He is a hedonistic child in a Legion of hedonistic children. The fact that he rises above his biological inclination towards pleasure seeking behavior and seeks to actually create something beautiful is a triumph of the spirit. He certainly is not morally clean... and he should not be. He should be perverse, vain, and lacking in self awareness. These are traits ALL of his Legion share. They do not preclude him from being "the good guy."
Oh no I don't hate him. Quite the contrary. He shows more promise than alot of emperor's children Marines, but then gets stuck in weird stuff. He is a fascinating and unique character and a genuinely enjoy him! Thanks for watching!
