- Come walk through Historic Colonial Williamsburg with us as we look for inspiration for decorating our home and landscape.
Hello prim friends! My name is Gabriella Moir and welcome to our channel The Cape on the Corner at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives that also go well in farmhouse decor and decorating. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. In the growing season we'll be starting a kitchen herb garden and so much more. Keep watching!

Thank, you fir showing this , because there to msny firces in our culture who to erease our early history going into 19th century. WE HAVE REMEMBER HOW ALL THIS PROCESS IN OUR COLONIES TO 20TH , 21 CENTURY,SO BRING MORE, THANK, YOU AGAIN.
The Mrs. has a very rich vocabulary. A joy to listen to her narration.
Well thank you kindly! I hope you'll check out some of our other videos! Perhaps part one of the tour of Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill Kentucky will be interesting to you.
What a treat for me to revisit one of my favorite places. I love it when time appears to stand still. When history comes to life and for a brief moment you are a part of it all. I truly believe in honoring and respecting our forefathers. They were the pioneers of this new country. They invented, made do and sacrificed in order to survive. And because they did we are privileged and should be humbled to live in this country. Amen.
Your comment reflects my feeling and well said.
Amen.
Thank you for the great tour and closeups of things most people would not even notice !
My husband and I used to visit Williamsburg almost every year , We built our own home with a lot of inspiration from there, sadly we haven't been there for probably 20 years. It brings back many memories of the great times when we were there. Thank you!
You're so very welcome! It was nice to see as we've just completed the construction on our Cape.
The Cardinal that keeps following you around is a loved one that has passed on. ♥️♥️♥️ Love this whole video!!!! Great job!!!!
Have been there twice. If I could, I would visit weekly. So beautiful, so very peaceful it has a special place in my heart. For some reason it feels like home.
I agree, perhaps because it's such a part of our heritage.
Be still my Heart!!! I LOVE Williamsburg!!!! Thank you so much for going there❤
Same here!
What a beautiful and charming place to visit. Thanks for taking us along.
It was my pleasure. Just loved it.
You did a great job of sharing the architecture of Williamsburg with us! It is one of my all time favourite places! Thanks so much!!
Thanks for watching! I love the simplicity of the lines so very much. I wish contemporary builders would look more to the historic styles when building new places.
I love Williamsburg and so thankful we have this history preserved. Thank you for taking the time during your visit to take us along. My husband and I were there about 10 years ago, and came home with inspiration and ideas for our own primitive home that we were living in at the time. Such fun!
The early architecture and colors have so much charm. I wish new builders would look to the history when building more often.
Having vacationed there it brings a spark to my heart and tears in my eyes. Such enjoyable history for all of us. Gardens, architecture, and beautiful decor.
Glad you enjoyed it, such a beautiful place.
I love this place. I am so glad that you’re doing a video there.
Glad you enjoy it!
Williamsburg is a special place. Been there couple times but it’s been a long time ago. Enjoyed eating at the taverns, great food❤
It really is! I remember from when I was a child the ladies were often sipping on these beautiful drinks made of lemonade with a layer of red wine on the top. They were beautiful. Early coolers I suspect! Not to be had on the menu when we were there that I could see. I may have to try to recreate it this summer.
Williamsburg is one of my favorite places!! I grew up about 45 minutes away and have been many times!! Thank you for posting!
You're so welcome. It's a favorite of mine too, haven't been since I was a child. Felt like I was home. My husband and I laugh that we were meant to be born in those days. Hope you'll check out the episode I uploaded tonight. I have several more wonderful destinations coming up!
Very beautiful & unusual area of our great country 🇺🇸♥️
Most definitely. Just gorgeous. I am in love with the simplicity of that architecture.
THANKYOU FOR GOING AND SHARING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was absolutely our pleasure!
I very much enjoyed your tour of the streets of Colonial Williamsburg. I visited as a child (temperature was 107°) in the heat of the summer. I’ve been back about 5 times (and nevertheless as an adult and always enjoy it!
There is something so different about the heat and humidity in the south. Such a beautiful place. I could spend a week there! I'm very happy there are no cars on the streets there. I think that really helps keep the early feel going.
You are in our favorite place to visit. We try to go 2 or 3 times a year if we can. The Peyton Randolph and George Wythe houses are our favorite. Have fun!❤
How wonderful. I hadn't been since I was a child. Hope to go back and spend more time the next time. Thanks for watching!
Amazing, please do more videos like this ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out the new episode I just uploaded tonight. More episodes coming this week! I can't wait to bring you all along with me!
What a beautiful place.
I would like to live there.
Thankyou both for sharing and every blessing to you for future videos.
Our pleasure! Thanks so much for watching. New episode tonight and I have several more coming this week!
Oh my goodness! What a treat for this video of my favorite place to have popped up! I've been many times and will never get enough!
I live in SC in a converted barn and use many of the colonial organic gardening practices at my country place. I use my beautiful flowers and herbs to decorate the altar table at my little country church which was founded in 1872. You mentioned garden videos you filmed there, so I'll l look for those next.
Thank you so much for ALL of your videos. I was born in the wrong century. All of your content fits me just right. May God bless you with safe travels during your "wanderings"!
Thanks so much for posting this. I live in Oklahoma and going to Williamsburg is my dream vacation!
Do it! Wonderful destination!
It reminds me so much of Savannah! Absolutely stunning! I have never been but I would love to go. I have been to Pleasant Hill Kentucky several times and there is also another Shaker community in Auburn Kentucky. They don't have as many buildings left standing because they burned most of them during the Civil War.
Such beautiful communities. Thanks for watching! Hope you'll check out our latest episode today and more coming later this week!
Thanks so much for the tour. I visited as a child and haven’t been back. Bucket list. 😂
Do it. Wonderful place to visit. Just lovely.
Thank you for sharing this very enjoyable video. I visited Williamsburg as a child and several times since then. Didn't see that sights that you show.....am so glad you did. Everything is beautiful. Loved the fife and drum corp, the horses, sheep and cows. The babbling broke was delightful. Love the colonial colors that were used on the houses/homes. Would love to see a video done at Christmas time in Williamsburg. Thank you !
Oh I'd love to go back. Would love to do a whole video just on how they decorate the doors and fences at Christmas time. Help by sharing our channel and maybe if I can get to 10,000 subscribers I can convince my husband we need to go back. "I promised Charlotte a Christmas video"!!
Loved this video. Makes me want to plan a trip there. I want to tell you how I appreciate your restraint in purchasing one of those birdhouses since it was made in China. All Americans need to be checking tags and practicing the same restraint. You will find a quality American crafted one I’m sure! I hope one of your viewers has a good source. Thank you for all your wonderful videos! I learn so much from your knowledge of early antiques. I look forward to them every week!
My mom handed me one that was made 40 years ago in the USA by the Williamsburg Pottery. I'm glad I didn't purchase too!!
Yes, I have been there but I didn’t notice all the things that you’re noticing it was years ago and I’m so glad you’ve done this video because I’m getting to see it again through different eyes, and I love how you pay attention to detail and how things were built.
I've always noticed those things, but after having built our Cape on the Corner, the details, details, details... It was nice to see the look we were going for, right before our eyes.
Loved the tour . Never have visited its on my bucket list. Thanks for taking us along
Beautiful place to visit. We loved it.
I have visited Williamsburg twice but would love to vacation there again. It is a beautiful place. Thank you for your video
Thanks for sharing, one of my all time favorites . I'm like you, looking at fences, walkways, shutters and other things I could incorporate for my 1722 house. My sister lives in Virginia so I get to visit often!!
1722 wow! How wonderful!
@@Thecapeonthecorner yes, and the previous owner did all the restoration! He even purchased a similar house in New Hampshire to replace missing paneling, etc.
9:10 that fence gate was really beautiful. I think I should build myself one of those.
Do it! Would love to see pics of your finished project!
A lovely walking tour--thank you
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Loved this video thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
The magnolia tree is Magnolia Grandiflora, also known as the southern magnolia. The large bird structure is a dovecote. Love the video
I love this I’ve never seen this before❤
Lovely destination.
Can you tour inside these homes Gabriella? I just love your videos! Thank you.💝
Yes, some of the homes and buildings are available for touring, they sell a pass at the visitor center. We only had a few hours and I wanted to see as much as we possibly could. So we stuck to the outside this time. I'm sure we'll be back one day soon.
Wonderful place, would love to visit.❤😊
It's a lovely place, you should come!
Thanks for sharing !!!!!
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for such a wonderful tour….I really appreciated the way you pointed out the special details and the history behind them.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this video. Was there many years ago, would love to go back again.
Do it, there's no time like now!! Well worth the trip. It was just charming.
If you were inspired in the summer, you must come back at Christmas!
I’ve never been but looks like I might be planning a trip there soon!
So very worth it. Lovely destination.
I want to live there !!! Beautiful
Ditto!!
One of our favorite places to visit….
Love the history and the architecture.
Catching up on your older videos. Visited 3 times...loved it. At marker 24:00 I believe it is a squab house...they raised and ate squab/pigeons like we would eat chicken. They would tie a string to their legs so they could not fly away, but stay and lay eggs. Enjoyed seeing more on your video...thank you. Jo b.
I have heard them called dove cotes
Loved it on
Thanks for watching!
❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Loved the video. Took my mom there years ago now you video makes me want to return soon.
FYI….Sent you an email several days ago… I know your traveling though 👍
You should absolutely make a return trip. it's inspiring to walk those streets. Just lovely.
Wonderful tour you gave. I need to get back to visit again now. I go to purchase some remakes of historical items and see made in Chine and keep walking, kinda ruins it for me. Christmas is a nice time to visit also.
Yes, and I have no idea why the need to do that. I'm surprised and sad more people buy there. Perhaps if they passed it over and shopped at the local craftspeople they would consider buying from local artisans instead. New video just uploaded. I hope you'll check it out, and consider sharing !
Thanks for sharing going on Oct
Our pleasure! Enjoy!!
Virginia is in the South so it’s going to be humid a good portion of the year.
You're not wrong!
The last house you showed is reported to be haunted…and for the life of me I can’t remember who’s home it was. We have been there several times, because if you love American history there is no where else to be! 🌷
Most definitely. You can definitely feel the history walking the streets there.
I think Benjamin Moore has the Historic Williamsburg color fan deck.
Williamsburg is city that American girl Felicity is born
I have one bottle bird house, making certain to bring it in for the winter season. Sad to see that now they are made in China.Kinda loses it's meaning of early America.
I agree. I was disappointed to see that. But my mom had one made 40+ years ago that she handed to me after seeing my video. So it will be going up on The Cape and it WAS made in the USA back then.
At $55 a ticket, it's become a dumb tourist spot. You're better off visiting Jamestown and Yorktown instead
I'm sure much of the tick price is for maintenance of the historic site.
@@Thecapeonthecorner Assurdely. It still makes it inaccessible to average Americans. Which is very elitist and exclusive when it comes to our very own history...
