Even with their breakthrough CD back in the early 2000's, they still have not changed. I love how they have evolved yet have stayed within the constraints of who they are. Many of those fans that only loved them for "change" have left. Now you go to one of their concerts and there are hardcore fans waiting to pit! One of the best bands to watch live.

I literally just got into deftones and my favorite album so far is definitely diamond eyes. There are some dirty ass riffs on this album. Diamond eyes, risk, you’ve seen The butcher and sextape AND beauty school are the standouts

It's all about the tone, and how the guitar is strummed. You can't really strum 8 string guitars, they beocme a muddy mess, so you need to play one string at a time. Power chords and palm uted chords are the way to sound heavy
He's playing an 8 string guitar and it still doesn't sound anywhere near as heavy as the band I'm in, with six string guitars tuned to Bb and Orange heads/cabs. Weird.
