"Our Collective Inaction is Shameful" Ambassador Cheikh Niang addresses the Security Council

- In his statement to the Security Council on 19 July 2024, Ambassador Cheikh Niang, Chair of the UN Palestinian Committee, highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank, calling for immediate international action. He expressed gratitude for the Secretary-General's efforts, emphasizing the devastating impact of Israel's military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in significant casualties and displacement. Mr. Niang urged the Security Council to demand an immediate ceasefire, halt all violations against civilians, and reject the normalization of atrocities. He welcomed the Secretary-General's report on children and armed conflict, recognizing it as a step towards accountability for crimes against children.
Ambassador Niang condemned the expansion of illegal settlements and settler violence, noting the dire situation of Palestinian detainees and the deteriorating conditions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He praised international efforts to broker a ceasefire and highlighted the importance of humanitarian access. The Committee acknowledged recent recognitions of Palestine by various countries and urged others to do the same, affirming the right to self-determination. He concluded by emphasizing the need for adherence to the International Court of Justice's landmark advisory opinion on Israel's occupation (www.un.org/uni...) and reaffirmed the Committee's commitment to a two-state solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. "Recognition is an investment in peace that brings hope to the Palestinian people," he stated, calling for united efforts to support peace and security.

Exactly. SHAMEFUL. And how are we going to explain our inaction to our children and grandchildren? And the history book will write that the whole world saw a psychopath with a machine gun in a schoolyard killing children and we just stood there and watched or discussed the legality of it.
That comment really brings home the insane, violent deranged mentality of the Israeli attitude towards Palestinians since modern day Israel was created for the Rothschild family by stealing Palestinian land. The settlers started killing and stealing homes and land from the first day they landed. They have ALWAYS treated the rightful land owners as vermin. The lack of actions of the world, in holding Israel to account, since the very first day, has only served to give the Israel of today, the belief that they are above any law and are unaccountable for any actions they take. It's time the UN realised they are themselves partly responsible for this

I agree. I saw UN peacekeeping forces being deployed to the Lebanese/Israeli border. But have not seen them being deployed to the Egyptian/Gaza border or even the occupied West Bank. They should be there assuring that humanitarian aid is protected and allowed into Gaza to be safely distributed. They should be around to protect the residents of the occupied West Bank to protect the Palestinian people from illegal settler violence and the violence and destruction by the IDF there. They should be sent to East Jerusalem to stop the destruction of homes and Christian churches there as well. They should be deployed to stop the illegal arrests and detentions of Palestinians from all these areas and regions and to stop the illegal torture and deaths of even children in Israeli prisons. Where are they? If they can be deployed to protect Israeli interests, they should also be deployed to stop war crimes, crimes against humanity and the deliberate starvation and dehydration deaths of the innocent in this region as well. ♾
