Good video, but I'm still paranoid about water ingress for any emtb motor. No consensus on user experiences. Should we believe this is more waterproof than CX?
When I got my CX powered Scott last year I fell in love with it and sold all of my analog bikes. I thought finally all I need is this one bike. Now the SX motor is calling for me. Time to increase of bike collection to two. Hmmm how do I break the news to the wifey?
It strongly depends on gear ratio available, gross weight of the system and incline. There will be definitely hills this motor will not be able to climb, if undergeared.
they dont specify because the nm of that motor is a joke compared to its power, my yamaha does 400w peak too but has 80nm peak torque. and the torque is what matters at the end of the day.
This is what Bosch do, hence why their the leaders in electrical engineering, however what I'd love to see is the SX unit use the wireless remote like on the cx unit, and maybe alittle more compact like the others on the market But I absolutely love my full fat Bosch unit, the power delivery is just awesome, but being in Australia wish they would increase the limit to 32kph so you can sit on 28kph comfortably.
These mid power EMTBs are really starting to gather momentum and are the gateway for people who are coming from analog bikes, one thing is for sure though that within the next 5 years or so analog bikes will be reserved for pro competitions and e-bikes will be the kings when it come to social riders
@@Renovatio2142 possibly but I think the Covid bubble is bursting for the bike sector as we saw last week with Chain reactions I’ve seen the brilliant Trek Fuel exe 9.5 for £3995 which I think is pretty good
If it is not marketing hype and if physics didn't change since last time I checked, the only way to get 600W with 50Nm of torque is to have the cadence above 115 RPM...
Thank you. Please consider the text-blend-ins (? Sry). Should be easier to read, if they appear at the same spot every time. Maybe without animation... Sorry, I am 78, like Steve
So, off road use only in Ireland shortly - The Act will also put e-bikes on a legal footing. E-bikes with a maximum power output of 250W and a motor cut-off speed of 25km/hr will be treated as bicycles under Irish law. E-bikes that can go faster than 25km/hr or have a power output greater than 250W, and those that can operate without pedalling will now be classified as an e-moped. Under the new categorisation, e-mopeds will be seen as motorised vehicles which will require a licence, registration, tax and insurance to be used on Irish roads.
I'm not familiar with the Irish law, but these bikes are all considered 250w continuous under EU law. Therefore should be legal in any EU country, unless Ireland is not adopting that standard?
So have Bosch stopped using Newton Meters for their marketing of these bike motors? How does it reach the same power output of the CX with higher nm rating?
This is why I'm not getting a factory ebike now. We finally moved over to universal derailleur hangers and now this complexity has been added. Don't even get me started on bottom brackets though!
This does seem to have almost the same specs as an Orbea Rise with an RS-tuned Shimano EP8, released in 2021 doesn't it? The Shimano motor is slightly heavier, the bike slightly lighter, but the specs are incredibly similar, I would have thought a nod to them would have been apt?
And never gets above 600 watts as the RPMs go up? Power in engineering terms is torque multiplied by RPM. So if the max torque is 85 Nm does it reduce as the RPM goes up to keep the output at 600 watss, or does the torque stay close to the same as the RPM goes up like the SX?
Speedbox 3.0 derestrict it mate not only does it cut out at 16mph it starts to throttle back assistance as you reach that limit my canyon grail on is now set to 35mph that’s me maxed out on the gears I can’t pedal any faster not that I would want to just like the flexibility
I’ve unlocked mine too, but with the Volspeed V4, which is better because you can just turn your bike off when you get home instead of having to let it time out. It’s got a maximum of 45km/h so you don’t hit any errors. I’ve done almost 500kms and never had an issue
Nope...for me, I'll stick with my 160Nm of my Bafang motor....I can go anywhere I want to go! My bike does weigh 24-25 kilos but I still can go 25 ish miles/3500 ft of climbing and still have 50% battery left.
Nice review on the SX; but, not keen on seeing Steve further damage muddy trails or cutting cross country on non-trails. Bad form guys! Thumbs down...for once. Note: This is coming from a guy who maintains trails at his local bike park in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Things perhaps may be different here than in the Sierra Nevada mountains. He was on bridleways the entire time by what I just watched. If going cross country bugs you never come to Scotland where we can go anywhere we want on our bikes. They have done zero wrong in the welsh hills.
What do you think of the new SX motor? Is it a step in the right direction? Please share your thoughts! 👇
Well i would LOVE to have one, but yet only half a dozen bikes are available.

Just get the new bike in the same colour as the first one and pretend it's the same bike 😅
I recognise that bike, poor Andy has a mega cleaning job after that :)
Looking forward to see how the norco e fluid rides when it comes out
"only 400W at 70 rpm" well thats plenty I'd say and is enough for most people.
And as always nice video once again

It's a nice integration to a regular MTB light nice
Great video Steve, the new motor looks mint. my average cadence is 90 rpm, I reckon I would get on great with this motor. nice video as always.

Here in NZ we get the full 32 kmh cutoff I genuinely fell sorry for our Anzac brothers in Australia I guess just keep at them to try get it changed

the price will hold them out of reach for sure.
Mid drive ebikes are a joke. No regen. Any EV without regen is pure trash.

Does it cuts power when you pedal over 120rpm like CX?

I don't quite understand how a 600w motor can be considered as 250w. Would you be able to explain why, as I am intrigued?@@TheAegisClaw
@@johndarch5439600w peak, the law refers to constant watts.
It's either analog or full fat. There should be no in-between. If you want an EMTB, you want POWER and RANGE!
Not true...I want a light cool bike and help to the hills.

Right… max power and weight sound very strange 😅
Does the form factor/bolt pattern of any Bosch generation match any other generation?

Hello, can you tell me what the name of your bike is, the one in the review?

What is the power output of the CX at 120 RPM?
600 watts, but it kicks in at that power a lot earlier in the cadence!

It would be nice to hear the motor ourselves as you ride and not loud rocking guitars.
Sick of the mid power weight talk. Whatever your current bike weighs... Add 4kg. Not difficult
Imlike the pedal over limiter function,my cx motor pulls you back at 16 mph, which is really annoying

Imagine if your bike can navigate
Point of low power ebikes is to be stealth, this motor fails that completely
gimme 80nm peak any days of the weak, at the end of the day nm rules up a hill.
