    Something scary to note about the ULEZ is you pay for the date you have driven into the zone. You don’t get 24 hours to drive in it once you’ve paid. If you drive in at 23:45 and you’re still driving at 00:15 you have to pay twice. Which absolutely screws night shift workers such as myself who would get hit twice just for going to work once. I can’t go on the bus or the train at that time of night as there aren’t any.

    so many musicians would spend most of there time on the road this was during the 50's & 60's so when great groups came down from up north to do gigs in London, the ace cafe was the place to go for them.

    Independent research has shown that the ULEZ expansion would bring about little benefit to air quality. It's just a cash grab. Since the Mayor wants us all to use public transport, people should question why he's trying to improve air quality above ground level when the air pollution on the London Underground is so poor. Ace Cafe is a great venue and I hope it survives the ULEZ madness.

    I've been going to the Ace Cafe since the early 90's from my AX GT, Saxo VTR, Abarth Punto Evo, 2 x Mercedes to my current car, its a great Cafe with a good atmosphere but It's a shame the ULEZ charges will keep the older car owners away as the owners won't want to pay the charge. The Mayor of London is not bothered about what will happen to businesses he just wants the income. The Chelsea Cruise (if it still happens) will get hit by lack of cars as well. The simplest argument against ULEZ is to look at it for what it is, a punishment for being poor. If someone still drives a T reg focus or 54 reg astra diesel, chances are they have that sub £1000 value of car because that's all they can afford. But someone who owns a 7 year old Range Rover who bought it new, they'll have plenty of money to go and buy another car. If you can afford a modern, less polluting car, good news! You are allowed to drive in London. What, you can't afford to buy a new low emission car? This old Y reg mondeo is all you can afford? Well, you better cough up sunshine and pay for the privilege of being poor, or throw the car away and do without. It's truly scandalous, and the sort of people who think up these ideas have no idea how the real world works.

    Great video, Adam. I love the Ace Cafe, and had forgotten the ULEZ will hit this wonderful, historic place. Do need, to pick up on a few things;
    1. The aforementioned 2003 Ford Focus probably WILL comply. If it's petrol. It's down to the NOx emissions. If it's below 0.08 g/km it should be accepted. (I have a 2001 Saab 93 that complies).
    2. The ULEZ affects bikes, too. Many of the bikes (that are older than 2007 but not 40 years old or more) will be hit. And the charge is the same as it is for cars; £12.50
    3. The camera's monitoring ULEZ aren't ANPR's (as far as I know). They purely there to pick up on your vehicle, so as to charge you.

    • @rorypollitt322
      @rorypollitt322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure if you know this but ANPR stands for 'automatic number plate recognition'. The ULEZ cameras utilise ANPR to read your number plate and upload it to a database so they know who to charge.
      It's the same as ANPR cameras on toll roads or the M1, etc detecting whether the car is on the road and is taxed, MOT'd, insured, etc!

    As a Motorcycle rider, it was one of the "go-to" destinations, a 240-mile round trip for a coffee, a burger and to nearly be taken out by some twonk doing doughnuts and thinking he was Barry Kenevil or Evil Sheen, now as a car driver I would have to pay £8 to get out of Birmingham, £12.50 to get into London, then probably another £8 to get back into Birmingham, I think I can give it a miss to be honest.

    It’s going through the courts right now as to the legality of the ULEZ. If it is removed then all the cameras will likely just be used for pay per mile where every vehicle gets charged. Which would be an excellent system if they removed the road fund licence and the heavy taxation on fuel.
    Otherwise we’re being taxed three times for the same thing.

He is not going to solve very much with the ULEZ charge because it is going to affect loads of businesses and drive them out of pocket, maybe just to plug a gap in his financial dire straits with TfL overspend.

    I remember the café all bordered up and the road just outside was 2 lanes of the 4 lane A406. It was always heavy with traffic even back then. The bridge arch's where a tight spot.
    Then the new road was built widened and moved right over. The Ace stood alone and there was space. The city has grown and now look at it. New flats as someone else has pointed out here are the nail in the coffin. When it fist reopened is attracted a lot of old vintage bikes. Well they can't go............. it will just be a cafe /coffee shop for the locals............Tesco express.
    Shame, I hope the building has a preservation order on it. It should have because of the history.

    I can't see ULEZ not happening, but not for the reasons you may think. At this time electric vehicles are not generating revenue for the government and this needs to be addressed, at this time electric vehicles are not subjected to Vehicle Excise Duty (VED - Vehicle Tax) or high taxation on fuel and they won't be able to do that without also increasing the costs of heating a home. The solution will be a road charging network (pay by the mile motoring) which is currently being investigated by an all party parliamentary committee (search Google for road pricing parliament) - In order for this to be possible a camera network is needed and this is where ULEZ comes in. Eventually they will switch to road pricing (pay per mile) and the weight of the vehicle, type of road you drive on and the time of day will be considered.
    Ulez is the beginning, not the end

    • @davejohnson3474
      @davejohnson3474 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pay per mile consultation on the mayor assembly was bollocks but filled it out. As you've said the ulez cameras are really for pay per mile but i can't see it working because it would have to be nation wide you can't just have London as pay per mile and nothing outside the m25 ring. Pay per mile would have to be debated in parliment

    While I'm not a Jap car enthusiast , but my son is ( I'm a Mercedes enthusiast and have a W124 daily driver , R129 , W114 , W111 and W105 ) , I do support you in this . I'm in Scotland , so while this does not affect me directly , I think it is terrible that an established institution like this might be disadvantaged . Of course historic vehicles , 40 years or older are exempt , so please get as many older cars as possible , especially 60s or 70s muscle cars with large V-8s , to attend as they are exactly the cars to incur the Wrath of Khan , but are exempt . Also perhaps encourage a steam traction engine rally , right into the centre of London - again Steam traction engines , which burn coal , belch out black smoke and need to stop at fire hydrants , have not been banned from ULEZ as they tend to be 100 years or more old . A rally past Westminster , with steam whistles sounding , would get attention . And how would the council try to tow any such vehicles which happened to park , given they weigh 30 tons upwards ?
    You have my support , besides which don't these idiots know that motorsport and many classic events now use sustainable fuel ? F1 and this year's Mille Miglia certainly do .
    Could you perhaps reach out to Jeremy Clarkson , who I'm sure would also support this , and get him to produce something that would show khan up for the idiot he is ?
    Also , don't forget our new King Charles is a car enthusiast with a collection of Aston Martins - if he was invited , and attended a classic meet there , I doubt there would be any danger of the place being closed - no local politician would invite his displeasure .
