Very informative video. Thank you for your precise instructions. I've had a Ryobi 2079r professional trimmer for 13 years. Only issue is the gas tank has always leaked. But my gosh. That thing is a beast. Now, I'm in the market for a new trimmer. I'm glad I held off on buying a Stihl 131r last week when I had it in my hand. The longevity of that product just doesn't seem as if they put too much thought into quality of their product. Based on my research I've found the Honda to be the best trimmer to buy.
Husqvarna in 535LST was my first choice since my 450 Rancher & 435 chain saws are awesome. But, looks like I'm going to go for a 4 cycle trimmer. Which apparently Honda is hard to beat. Videos like yours show the engineering that went into the Honda motors. That's why all Honda equipment lasts forever. My son's 1975 50Z motorcycle still runs like a champ. I love my Husqvarna brand items. 🤔 but from what I see, and read, Honda is going to have my next purchase. Awesome video. I really enjoy working on lawn equipment motors. And videos like yours explaining every detail keeps me intrigued to where I watch it numerous times. TY sir.

Man, these little Hondas are designed well. Even the Chinese clones seem rock solid nowadays.
    Nice work!

I have a Honda umk422 trimmer with this engine's smaller sibling, the gx22 (about 16 or so years old). Excellent motor. Still going strong. However, it does get a little hard to start after it has been running for a while. Think the valve's should be adjusted?

Hi there. I know not a lot about these engines. I have a Honda 4 stroke petrol grass Cutter. . The cam wheel where the timing belt goes around shattered. So I bought a new one. I know you don’t just replace the cam wheel and replace the belt. Hence this questioning.
I know my engine is different from yours, but the principle is still the same. I should imagine.
when you said that you make sure that the piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. Then you went to the flywheel and make sure that the notch on one if the fins, is lined up with a mark on the casing.
I noticed you moved the wheel to line up the both.
Question:: in this case, by you moving it to line up. Wouldn’t that put the piston off TDC
    Like the video. 👍👍

Hi, good video, well presented. Just one thing, you're an American. What you doing talking metric size :-). Here in the UK we went metric decades ago but somethings are still quoted in Imperial. Fortunately the light hitting your feeler gauges showed the size of gauge in thous'.
Going to enjoy some more of your videos. Good luck, Phil :-)

Does un-adjusted valves cause kickback? I have a Honda pressure washer that jerks the pull handle out of my hand sometimes (painful) would this be the cause. it is an ohv also Gx-160 I think. thanks for taking the time to make these great vids!

I have a wiring question. I got the Honda GX35 for my bike but don't have a kill switch that works with it. Any idea what the wiring is made out of? The kill switch I tried to use was made of copper which was not compatible with the Honda GX35 wiring.

    • @smallengineshop

+Johnny B Copper is not compatible? Are you trying to run a kill switch up to the handle bars?

Ok I know its been a while but I did fix my kill switch issue. I ended up getting a high quality toggle switch specifically for my engine from Staton Inc. & it works now. Yay! Now I don't have to keep shutting it off by tapping the bare wire on the metal part of my mount which didn't feel safe especially after refueling it.

there is gas getting into the oil I need help. Honda gx31 tiller engine

    • @theatom7264
      @theatom7264 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Are you using it upside down? Gas could be leaking out of the grommet or carburetor into the engine block which can contaminate oil. I remember moving my GX35 engine upside down for maintanance while it was on the bike & some gas leaked out even with the gas cap on. For some reason some small engines don't do well upside down or at other unusual angles.

My critique is that a professional never leaves the surface of the gauge or the valve stem devoid of lubricant while moving the feeler gauge in or out of the gap to be measured. Also a pro Never leaves the gauge in the gap while tightening down the adjustment. You take a good chance of smashing the thin metal of the gauge to a thickness Thinner than the intended Machined thickness ! Remember , keep it lubricated , don't force it into the gap & when tightening the adjustment NEVER leave the gauge inside the gap between the stem of valve & the rocker arm end. Keep your gauge as an Accurate Gauge. Also if you want to be a real super nerd Try to use a Go-No Go Gauge if you have one suitable for your aimed for clearance. If you need to aim for Inch standard of say 4 thou , the Go-No Go gauge will have 3 thou on narrow part of the strip & the thick part will be 5 thou . Since the 3 will slide easily in the gap ( remember the thin coat of silicone based oil on gauge ) and the 5 thou thick part will Not fit easily into the gap ; you will have adjusted it properly with no need to feel pressure of gauge sliding into or out of the measured gap ! That is the best way . Yep , I was once a somewhat great mechanic. Top Journeyman at Greyhound Bus Lines & noted in their museum. Good Luck campers , don't let the bears eat all you food ...........
