    Andy Hug, the late martial arts legend, choreographed the fights in this animated film, which is why they look so good and realistic, while still incorporating the fantastical fighting elements of the game.

    One thing to note: Ryu and Ken's fighting style isn't actually shotokan, that was either a mistranslation or a mistake. Their style is actually called "ansatsuken" and is based on kyokushin karate I believe.
    Makoto from SF3 and 4 is an actual shotokan karate user.

    • @BurridgeMartialArts604

      One could say it's a more *Fantasy* Based Shotokan. After all, not a lot of real Martial arts give you the power to create blue energy orbs from your hands.

    • @artistpenguin5890
      @artistpenguin5890 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It generally is referenced as Shotokan, and Ryu/Ken's stances, footwork and non-fantastical attacks do resemble old-school Shotokan, with it's higher stances, and tendency to keep the feet in a single line.
      Which is kinda funny, because in the SF lore Makoto is an Okinawan practitioner, therefore logically she should use some more ancient form of karate... but she actually demonstrates pretty solid modern-style sports Shotokan.

  • @wolfman-up7dh
    @wolfman-up7dh ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Fun fact: Capcom USA misattributed Ryu and Ken's style to Shotokan Karate. In the lore, it's actually a unique style called ansatsuken.

    4:40 Technically Ryu (and the other "shotos") don't actually use Shotokan Karate. It was just something they called it in translation way back in the day. Ryu doesn't practice shotokan, it's actually a fictional martial art called "Ansatsuken" (Assassination fist), it combines many moves from other asian fighting styles (not just Karate) as well as some fictional moves, although the fighting games community calls them Shotos ( Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma, Gouken, Dan,etc) because it's easier to remember (and there's also the fact that we're lazy af)

      @@BurridgeMartialArts604 If you've never seen the director's cut of fearless it is so much better than the theatrical cut. Adds an extra 40 min to the film that was cut to accommodate the idea that Americans wouldn't watch a 2 1/2 hr foreign martial arts film.

    Personally I prefer the older anime movies (80´s - 2000´s) - something about the animation style is pretty appealing.

      No doubt. It looks so fucking good. I don't know how different animating is but modern day stuff just looks too computery if that makes sense. This looks like real art in comparison. I have no idea how to put it into words, clearly lol

    Pfft, the Tatsumaki kick is so easy! All you need to do is crouch down and rise while backing up and kick, then your body will float and start spinning automatically!
