Yeah, I would probably agree with you there but I don't mind the cover art for the first game either. Haha, yeah the BS feature was in the original games too! The ghosts make sense though, they're the spirits of the Mudokons who are having their bones dug up in Necrum. The Raisin comes out of literally nowhere and had no context within the story. It's like he's an already established character without ever being established. But the ghosts get established in Abe's Exoddus. The green is definitely gruesome. Fitting for such a gruesome image. He got his hand scars before drinking Soulstorm Brew in Abe's Oddysee but he got his chest scar/tattoo in Exoddus. He still hadn't drunk any brew at that point in the game though. He first drinks brew when he gets to the Feeco Depot in Abe's Exoddus which is way later in the game. In Oddworld Adventures 2 though he never even gets a chest scar/tattoo and he drinks his first brew in Necrum in the first level of the game. So yeah, it's a bit confusing but obviously Abe's Exoddus is probably the one that's considered canon. At least until Oddworld: Soulstorm comes out and retcons everything that happened in Abe's Exoddus making it even more confusing! Haha! It's not an issue but it is interesting! At least... It's interesting to me! There's definitely a balance issue with having the Mudokon rescue data always accessible without having to pause the game to see it. The Oddworld game that actually did this the best is probably Munch's Oddysee because I'm pretty sure there's a physical tally chart in every level where you can rescue people and you can also pause the game and see a rescue breakdown on top of that. But Munch's Oddysee isn't very good, so that kinda ruins it haha. All they needed to do is have a detailed tally chart placed in every area of the game where there's Mudokons to rescue and it wouldn't be a problem, but having a tally chart in some of the native areas would have broken immersion I suppose. That was probably the dilemma the developers had at the time. Haha, yeah that's a good point! I guess the face is supposed to be more neutral than unimpressed! Despite the game being impressive and having good elements it's also just not really worth playing because of how much better and more readily available the actual Abe's Exoddus is. So that's the reason I didn't go with the happy version! :D
@@PixelPursuit What I like about the second game's cover art more than the first is mainly based on Abe's pose and colors. Sometimes it's the little things like colors that can bring cover art together. I was wondering about that ghost/raisin thing. They both seemed similar in that they both came out of nowhere, though you would say that the ghosts had a reason to appear, whereas the raisin didn't appear to have a reason. You probably should've pointed that out you your Munch's Odyssey review. What I call an issue? *Gasp* Credit towards Munch's Odyssey!? That's why I feel that three different faces aren't enough. Even on its own, your "neutral" face clearly has an unimpressed look about it. It would be more appropriate in letting the audience know how much a game "leaves a bit to be desired."
Yeah I definitely agree that the second game's artwork is better. Like you say the composition is just a lot better with Abe's pose! I mean the ghosts are given context because they have been released due to their burial site being disturbed. The game also clearly states that ghosts and spirits are a part of the Oddworld universe because of the spirit locks that appear later on. The raisin is literally just a big raisin. It is given absolutely no context and Abe is already shown to know who he is without it being introduced to the player. I can only assume that this was supposed to be explained but because of the development issues with Munch's Oddysee, they probably couldn't finish that part of the game. I did mention the raisin coming out of nowhere in my review but yeah maybe I should have made the comparison between that and the ghosts. Haha, yeah the issue of the game's name being different in the game and on the box art! Yep! There's not very many ways I would say Munch's Oddysee is better than the other games, but I suppose that is one element where it is! To be fair, I might end up changing the thumbnail design at some point because I'm probably balder than the animated version of me now! Haha! I'm not sure exactly how I would change it though because I can't have a new expression for every single game I review!
@@PixelPursuit Ever notice that Abe is giving both a thumbs up and *two* gesture at the same time? Making use of those three fingers there! I'd think that having more expressions would help to make you a bit more dynamic, but that's just me.
Hey, thanks for reviewing this game! I thought I was gonna be stuck with obscure walkthroughs and 4chan boards to find out anything (it just seems like *that* kind of obscure game), but this review is very well documented and well shot! It's informative and respectful towards veteran players and new players alike; and the game capture, script writing, and on-person camera were all very nicely done. The intro was pretty nicely animated and drawn as well! Honestly, this is a good video! I feel like it deserves more views :) Thank you for making this content; I like the Oddworld series a lot and it's cool to see a review for a game that I honestly never knew existed! Thanks for playing this game so I don't have to XD But yeah! Very well done, man! I'm glad I watched this video :) Thank you!
Thank you for watching it! Haha, yeah it definitely is that kind of game isn't it! Luckily this one wasn't actually too difficult to get through, it didn't have any ridiculous sections that seemed to not work properly like Adventures 1 did... Thanks for the positive feedback :) I always try and keep my production value high so I'm glad you noticed that! I'm happy you enjoyed it so much, that honestly means a lot to me! Haha, yeah I definitely wouldn't recommend actually playing the Adventures games, just stick with the main PS1 or PC versions :D
@@PixelPursuit Don't have to tell me twice~ I'll just enjoy the main games for now~ This actually inspired me to get up off my butt and play Much's Oddysee, which so far has its quirks but is not the worst game I've ever played.~ I plan to play it through, if at least for lore reasons :) And, you're welcome~!
