  • Best Light Meter for Filmmaking? Sekonic L-308dc-U Digicinemate Light Meter Tutorial ***** Get the newer version of this light meter (works the exact same!): amzn.to/2VtGpJy
    After having this light meter for almost a year and completely forgetting about it, I decided to create this video to show other filmmakers how easy it is to use the Sekonic L-308dc-U Digicinemate Light Meter, as well as how to get a basic reading from it and understand exactly what it is telling you in terms of the settings you would need for your DSLR in order to get proper lighting for your video.
    Please note that the Sekonic light meter model I am using in this video is currently only available via 3rd party sellers on Amazon.com, but you can find the updated version (called the Sekonic L-308X-U Flashmate) that works exactly the same: amzn.to/2VtGpJy

    wondering why the sphere can be opened and closed, when clearly we should be metering with it closed. IS there a situation when we would meter with the sphere open?

      @@IndependentFilmProducerU I was Facebook and noticed you haven't been on there in a while. . Are you still using it? I know you did a test one day on how many people used it, but are you still on it😄

      To be honest Fallin I only go on fb to promote out my videos, hahaha. I know that’s bad, but fb throttles the reach of pages so much that it’s not worth it to spend too much time there. I do plan to be more active as I get into shooting my next to films though (going to test out fb ad campaigns to promote them)

    How did you make yours give an optimum ISO and Shutter Speed upon taking a measurement. Mine makes me manually set the ISO and Shutter Speed so is essentially an F-Stop meter.

    Hello, what settings should my strobe light settings start with?

    • @IndependentFilmProducerU
      @IndependentFilmProducerU  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, not sure what you are asking but you would set your lights to whatever setting you need to light your scene. Then you would use your light meter to take a reading and set your camera settings based on what your light meter says

    What? Man what about the cine mode? You don't have to do that math of yours with this. Just select cineHD mode, set set your fps and viola!

    Been shooting stop motion recently and use my Sekonic to match shots over multiple days. Now that I feel comfortable with it, I will most certainly take it with me on live action scouting trips.

      That’s awesome man! I was beginning to think that I was the only one with this light meter (or had any interest in it) based on the views 😅

      @@IndependentFilmProducerU Perhaps we've grown accustomed to IRE waveforms and have drifted away from lighting ratios? Even on a tiny stop motion set, negative fill and dramatic contrast are go tos for a rich image. BTW, your casting tips were a big help. Been hiring voice actor talent and as a newb, your advice has been immensely helpful. Thank you.
