I can't click the Like button enough,... I love this version. It shows Janis, in such a different way, than we all know her. It's beautiful. It's a gem, indeed!
She left a legacy greater than her physical self. I believe her power frightened her. She doubted herself because whilst everyone was talking her down, extraordinary things were coming out of her soul. Not shocking to feel so contradicted within. If only she had that love she always craved. That’s all she wanted, after all.
Well, once I lived the life of a millionaire, spending my money, no, I didn't care Takin' my friend out for a mighty good time Buyin' high-priced liquor, champagne wine Then one day I began to fall so low, didn't have a friend, nor no place to go If I get my hands on a dollar again I'm goin' to hold on to it until the eagle grins No, nobody knows you when you're down and out In your pocket not one penny, and your friends, well, you haven't any Soon as I get back up on my feet again, everybody wants to be your long lost friend It's might strange, without a doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out No, nobody knows you, honey, when you're down and out In your pocket not one penny, and your friends, well, you haven't any Then you get back up on your feet again, everybody wants to be your long lost friend It's might strange without a doubt, Nobody knows you when you're down and out It's mighty strange, without a doubt Nobody knows you when you're down and out That's what I mean, honey, when you're down and out
Janis is the only white female singer that you can mention in the same breath as Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. You really can't say more than that.
I'm pretty sure they go like this... Yes, it is. It was a recording made in 1962 on a small local record company that would select artists for some records. If you're talking about the different tone in her voice, it's because at the time she sang very much in the style of Bessie Smith, which she adored.

I am being healed by Janis Joplin. Infinite blessings to Our Lady Of Eternal Lamentation.
This version is pure gold, thank you
Mama loved her work, she'd grown up on opera, but after 9 kids found a home in the blues.
Beautiful
She left a legacy greater than her physical self.
I believe her power frightened her.
She doubted herself because whilst everyone was talking her down, extraordinary things were coming out of her soul.
Not shocking to feel so contradicted within.

No, nobody knows you when you're down and out
In your pocket not one penny,
and your friends, well, you haven't any
Soon as I get back up on my feet again,
everybody wants to be your long lost friend
It's might strange, without a doubt
Nobody knows you when you're down and out
No, nobody knows you, honey, when you're down and out
In your pocket not one penny,
and your friends, well, you haven't any
Then you get back up on your feet again,
everybody wants to be your long lost friend
It's might strange without a doubt,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out
It's mighty strange, without a doubt
Nobody knows you when you're down and out

I'm pretty sure they go like this...

Honey when you're down and out
In your pocket no you ain’t got a penny,
Honey and all your good friends
Well look around you, you ain’t got any
Soon as I get up on my feet again,
everybody comes running around me
Want to be my friend now
You know it's mighty strange, oh turns out it’s true, without a doubt
No one can use you honey when you're down, down and out
No, nobody knows you, honey, when you're down and out
In your pocket no you ain’t got a penny,
Honey and all your good friends

Soon as you get up on your feet again,
everybody is gonna come running around you
Want to be your friend
It's mighty strange, honey, I tell you it’s true, it’s true without a doubt
No one can use you honey when you're down and out
Honey I mean it
Baby when you’re down and out

Caio César This song is NOBODY KNOWS YOU WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND OUT. IF LOOK FOR IT ON GOOGLE YOU WILL FIND THE LYRICS!!
They're two different singers, but the nasal quality reminds me of Edith Piaf, the Little Sparrow.
Ain*t that the throuth
i could be wrong.
That is not Janis Joplin.

It is!! just a change in her usual style
