This is awesome and Rotorflight is simply amazing. I've been using RF since v1 and the most challenging part was the setup and unfortunately there weren't many setup videos or instructions available so you had to work it out through trial and error. The recent RF2 release, and all the new FCs have changed everything and it's now so much easier. RC helis have a bright future!
Thank you so much for videos RC video Reviews , just bought radiomaster tx16 4-1 with a external module elrs, i was thinking to buy Ikon2/brain2 because i wasnt sure for try setup Nexus , but with this videos , i Will try Nexus for get all integrated , ty so much , It helps !
I just pre-ordered 2 Nexus units to replace the controller on my Goosky RS4, as well as 4 receivers to replace some Futaba satellite receivers I have installed currently on other helis. Looking forward to the seeing more setup videos on this unit! Thanks!
We'll do more. This was a first attempt to get people what they needed to get in the air. There is a great deal of flexibility in Rotorflight leading to a great deal of configurability.
most of us are fine with the nexus setup as there are so many videos now available to st it up and thats great......what we need is a tutorial as to how to setup the radiomaster tx16s for rotoflight....simply pick one config for a certain heli and we will work out all the rest for our particular helis......thats what needed.
Great video, Im getting a Omp M4 MAX soon. with your video and the one Jonas Wackenshouser made the nexus is a lot more understandable. On some facebook groups and forums Rotorflight cought some flak for being inpossible te setup. But from the video and the online manual i find it all pretty understandable. Nothing crazy other fbl units dont have, just a little more "clunky"at times. It defenitly convinced me to get a Nexus to pair with my X20s on ethos. Keep up the grest work!
Thanks for all the wonderful videos. I just purchased an Nexus flight controller and trying to connect it to my Radiomaster using DSM satellite receiver, I can't seem to make this work, can you help?
Is there a way Rotorflight2 can be used with Jeti Transmitters (with Jeti Receivers or even Radiomaster Receivers) and with full Telemetrie? (Cause i saw something with ReceiverProtocol JetiEXBus in this video)
Does Rotorflight make it possible to maintain a minimum altitude - i.e. to automatically go into rescue mode if the altitude falls below this - as with the Spirit?
I don't believe it supports a hard deck in the current iteration; however, with the presence of barometer, the key hardware is present. I'm looking into whether or not it reports altitude via telemetry, because if it does, you can do something like while we wait for a built-in RF configuration option: this th-cam.com/video/w2fwgVBhe8s/w-d-xo.html
From the wiki: www.rotorflight.org/docs/Tutorial-Setup/Configuration#barometer: "Barometer This is used for Altitude hold Rescue which is currently still being developed"
Help, when I try to flash the bootloader won’t start. I already downloaded the correct boatloader fram zadig but it still won’t work. Can you help me please?
Where can you find blheli esc with enough power for a helicopter? Only seeing 50-60a like we run in quads. I like the idea of having the governor right in the flight controller.
@@RCVideoReviews i think the next thing has to be making an FBL like a transmitter is with planes. If I have 4 helis, why do I need 4 fbls? Why can't the connectors be simplified/digitized and the piece that holds the fbl locked/unlocked. I'd love to just snap the fbl off and put it on another heli and select that "profile" for the fbl
Normally aux1 ch6 is pitch and throttle is lower one depending on transmission standard. Is there a reason you remapped? Or is this some strange rotor flight thing
SRXL2 connects to a UART TX. This video explains set up for Betaflight, which will be the same as Rotorflight. Ignore the parts about using a specific firmware. The video is old and SRXL2 can now just be selected from the drop down menu. th-cam.com/video/WAkDv9gzl98/w-d-xo.html
I'm not familiar with Spektrum, but all of the ports are UARTS. The DSM port is 3 pin, SBUS is 3 pin. The others are 4 pin. In the configurator, you can assign Serial RX to UARTS 1,2,3,4,6 with AUTO, then on the Receiver page you select your protocol. Spektrum DSM/SXRL2 are both listed.
Does Rotor flight have a heard deck feature? Since I se it has a barometer I hope it either has it already or will like the spirit GT fbl with an adjustable hard deck rescue feature.
To my knowledge no. However, it does have the facilities for this type of feature. i.e. barometer. I'm looking into altitude telemetry myself because with altitude on the radio, we can do things like this: th-cam.com/video/w2fwgVBhe8s/w-d-xo.html
there should be a switch & warning to disconnect the servo linkages before messing with the servos tab. like there is a switch & warning for the motors tab,
Thank you for some great videos, it allowed me to setup the Nexus Flight controller. In some of these videos I think you stated that you will include your setup(for your RAW 500) or some setup files in your Discord. So I got a discord account, signed in and think was on your discord(and the Rotorflight discord), but can't find any Nexus Heli setup files. Can you make a small video on how to do this, it would be much appreciated. Not only am I a new Nexus user but also a new Discord user. Thanks again, great job!!!!
It depends on what you're doing. TBH most people could use 100hz STD for just about everything. If you're using a FC of some sort (iNav/RF/BF) D500 is nice. It gives more info to the FC. On my fixed wing setups I use 333hz/STD unless I want more telemetry data like in my crash proof setup where altitude information is needed to trigger the safety. In that case, I use a 1:2 telemetry ratio.
@@RCVideoReviews thanks for the reply John. I have been following your RT setup vids and I know you mentioned it some where but for the life of me I can’t find it again. lol! Great vids and I have learned a great deal! I have installed the Radiomaster FC and elrs receiver (ranger and tx16s) as shown in my Kraken 580 and recently completed ground tests… still building the courage for lift off though. Had a few issues with scorpion motor getting really hot and the tail stepping around to the right from time to time. Not sure if it is weathervaning, belt tension being too tight or grub screw loosing up. Will see on the next test run.
You don't enter the ratio in the tool, you enter tooth counts which are whole numbers. It will calculate the correct ratio based on the tooth counts (whole numbers) you provide. In the event of two stage hardware like the Kraken, review this guide: www.rotorflight.org/docs/Tutorial-Walkthroughs/Two-Stage-Gear-Train-Ratios
Yeah the one that’s giving all the trouble for me is the tail, which has a 4.9:1 ratio. The manual gives a “main gear” tooth count but nothing for the tail haha
first time setting up betaflight for a quad its complicated as well but then things make sense and becomes easy im sure the workflow and setup will become easier as its developed. its an opensource project so everyone in the community can help streamline it maybe a 'setup wizard' would be useful
Can this even be use if my older Kontronics Jazz ESC doesnt give Telemetry data like RPM? I have no idea how to set it up and have found no info on discord or Radiomaster website. I may have just wasted 100 bucks on this thing that is useless without spending another several hundred for new ESC.
@@RCVideoReviews Oh thank you so much. This is much tougher to me than Betaflight! So Im assuming set Gov to off then? And do I even need to use main and tail gear ratios if Gov is determining speed?

What setup to put the servo in place of the ESC? rotorflight nitro
How do I connect the servo to move the needle on the nitro engine?
Will you be doing any radio setup videos? The default channel on my TX16s is throttle on channel 3, do I have to move that to channel 6?
Part 2 is coming up. It’s the EdgeTX setup video.
Where can you find blheli esc with enough power for a helicopter? Only seeing 50-60a like we run in quads. I like the idea of having the governor right in the flight controller.
AM116 works on my Raw 500.
So for a smaller heli, like a RS4, I guess T-motor AM 66 would be fine. Are you planning a video with the settings in the T motor ESC for a heli?
Had to pick one of these up. You could get 3 of these for 1 spirit gt!
Yeah! This device is going to change things for heli pilots.

Neat idea but probably not much in the way of incentive for manufacturers or developers to put effort into this.
Normally aux1 ch6 is pitch and throttle is lower one depending on transmission standard. Is there a reason you remapped? Or is this some strange rotor flight thing
Aux1 isn't channel 6 in EdgeTx, it's Ch5. The ELRS mapping default in Rotorflight is set when you select the ELRS dropdown.
Where do we connect the Spektrum SRXL2 (4 pin connector), is the SBUS port (UART?) an option with custom connector (servo plug) without gray cable

If your ESC doesn't provide an RPM signal, then you can use the ESC in-built governor. The FBL doesn't have an opinion on what governs your headspeed.
