Mikey "The Mayor" Baca is not only an expert when it comes to rare vintage vinyl, he's a great person and an even greater friend. Thank you for keeping it all alive, Carnal!
Nobody does a record store better then you Corey. These videos are so good. My youngest lives in Denver, I just want to go to that store to check out the book selection. Such an interesting interview. Cool to see the people that shop there. Thank you for taking the time to do this, it’s very inspirational. Steve
Thank you Steve! I hope you get a chance to visit, you'll have to tell Mikey the "video guy" sent you....wait. He may charge you more...better leave that out ;) ~Corey
Great to see your brother making an appearance Corey. Loved the interview. Your editing deserves awards. Sounds like Mikey was the perfect guy to take over the store. Danny would be proud of him. Way to go brother C~ Rob/Boston
Mikey really brought the energy and that's what it takes to be successful and satisfied at your job day in and day out. Passion for what you do! Thank you for coming along for the ride ~Corey
"I can spend twenty minutes or three and a half hours digging". Jon wearing the Mighty Blimp jersey proudly and Rock & Roll plays in the background. Solid editing Corey. Way to go Jon~ Rob/Boston
Haha! Right Jon on point for the one liner needed to kick off the video! The song selection had to be Rock and Roll because it had been 9+ months (been a long time) that I made a RSAA video, and seen my brother in person (also a very long time 14 years long). Jon was rockin' the right tee and his band did a great job with the cover song so it all came together nicely. Did you notice the drum intro was too long? I had to double it to make sure the riff kicked in when the graphics started.
V! This was an EPIC trip for me Vance. My wife and I went on cheap airline tickets originally purchased in March, and stayed with friends. We hit Red Rocks during the day, Garden of the gods, and the foothills of Estes. I also hung out with my brother who lives there...it was my wife's first visit. Got to visit a couple of stores in Springs, Castle Rock, and the famous Twist & Shout in Denver (kinda like a "smaller" version of Amoeba) but the highlight was Black & Read. Mikey's personality, music from the cover band Been Caught Stealing, and aerial video, all made this one of the best videos in this series to date! Thank you for being here since the first record stores across America video! ~Corey
@@CoreysChannel That does sound like a great trip I was supposed to go to Denver in 2020 to see Pearl Jam but Covid hit. Red Rocks is on my bucket list of venues too. I like to spend a few days diggin' out there too.
Hi Corey!!! super glad to see a new episode of this series, amazing store and cool manager, sad we don't stores like that in Chile..... Cheers and be well
Thank you for coming along for the ride Cristian! Man, that sucks there isn't stores like this in Chile, but there isn't a store exactly like that in Ohio either! I'd love to visit the beautiful country of Chile one day. For Record Stores Across The World series one day? ~Corey
So, Rob there are a couple Easter eggs in this video I'll share with you. First, my brother makes a cameo! He's the guy walking into the shop during the into, talking in the shop (yellow plaid shirt and hat) next to Jon, and the little "blooper" clip at the end. Second, Jon from the TH-cam channel Jon's Record Rack is in the beginning and in some of the shots. In addition, Jon plays guitar in the band Been Caught Stealing, so he's laying down a lot of the guitar work you hear along-side his band. I was a guest at Jon's home for our stay in Denver. We had an epic time with friends family and music. Third, the close up of Horace Silver Trio Japanese pressing with the gold "From the Personal Collection of Danny Graul"? That is one of the few records that have been permitted to sell from the late owner's collection (it had to be purchased by the store and hasn't been placed in inventory yet). Well, I bought that record and proudly have it in my collection now. I listened to it last night and it's a SMOKER! I will keep that record to accompany my visit and experience at Black & Read. Cheers ~Corey
@@CoreysChannel Fantastic info Corey. I am going to watch this one a couple of times to get everything that I can out of it. Plus all of the Easter Eggs as well. Way to go. I am proud of the accomplishments that you have achieved. Your channel is one of my favorites and it always will be~
Mike f%&king Baca! That dude is why I come in!! Over the course of 30 years, his recommendations have always been spot on. If Mike suggests something, don't ask questions.
Hey Corey, You upped the GAME! Very cool video, loved it! Oh, very nice areal b-rolls! I don't like shopping but there is two kind of stores I eagerly go to shop; record stores and book stores. Makes me want to go Denver just to visit Black & Read; lol! Thanks for the fun! Be safe and take care. ~NammaN~
Hey Nam, this was a tough one to do! I needed help from a bunch of people to make it happen. I didn't have my tripod or gimbal. I had to hold the camera out with my arm partially extended to get the video. No time to get video during my trip. The aerial video and music was contributed from free sources. This was a blast to edit and I was super excited to share it! Cheers ~Corey
Awesome looking store man , dude looks super chill , he’s right it’s a damn shame these places are virtually dead in this day and age . Especially to have survived the COVID thing . Cool that he mentioned all the famous people who stop by , looks like an awesome store, not just music but a whole lot of awesome stuff . Cheers , keep supporting these physical format places 🤘
Yes! You get it, Raul. The passion of Mikey and the determination of the team at Black and Read and most importantly, the CUSTOMERS coming though to help carry the business through covid, it's a great story. Brick and Mortar baby! ~Corey
Wonderful piece, Corey. I'd love to visit! And Mikey's such a character - just goes to show how being in a job you love and are passionate about is so important - really life-affirming. Good to see you have your own helicopter for the aerial shots :) Cheers, Ian
Ian, this place is waaaay in the middle of the country but if you ever visit, be sure to say hi to Mikey. He's the guy with the warm personality who loves his job and is surrounded by music everyday. I agree, he is a reflection of having life-affirming passion! I'm afraid I'll have to sell the heli. It cost a fortune in fuel and you just can't find a good pilot these days ;) Cheers~Corey
Thank you for the over the top kind words but I appreciate it. Highlighting brick and mortar record shops is my thing and buying records is the game! ~Corey
Awesome! But I didn’t know the owner passed cool guy! R.I.P.
