  • The DJI Mini 4 PRO is the first drone in DJI's Mini series to come with omnidirectional (360°) obstacle avoidance, but how well does it work with only 6 sensors?

I never knew Mini 3 Pro has a 5min 26sec and M4P 3min 34sec active track limit. I bought both on release date. I saw an older video of yours and subscribed immediately. I did also ask a question regarding the DJI RC 2 real battery life. Because I fear I got a bad controller certainly not getting anywhere near 3 hours even RC Pro with Mavic 3 Pro uses less than my new RC 2. Thank you for doing this test.

Yeah it's definitely the most bizarre thing ever. Just to clarify, it's not an active track that has the limit but rather the video produced while using it. When using active track with the Mini 3 Pro and shooting a 4K video, it splits that video into 5 minutes and 26 second clips versus just doing one full video. With a Mini 4 Pro it does something similar but those video clips are 3 minutes and 43 seconds each. Honestly it's just more surprising than anything but even the DJI fly app has editing tools that will allow you to put all of the clips together if that's something you'd really want to do.
I saw your question about the battery life of the RC 2 on my other video. I believe I answered that question there....I think. Hopefully, you're able to get a replacement.

Very nice test! You mentioned you just bought a Sony for stills. That's a very nice camera and I hope you enjoy it. I wanted to clarify some of your comments regarding APS-C vs full frame.
Pixel count won't matter that much unless you are planning to print poster size. I easily print 11x17 prints from 24mp cameras that look great. Full frame doesn't automatically mean better low light performance/high ISO performance.
I moved from Canon full frame to Fuji APS-C and I gained much but gave up little to nothing. I was a full time pro back in the film days so I've been at this a while and have high standards.

Much appreciated. I appreciate you clarifying the differences between the sensor formats. This is all still pretty confusing to me but I don't want to just get something to get it I want something I can grow into.
I think I've narrowed it down to the A7 IV. Aside from everything else I mentioned I think my biggest thing is I want to be able to crop in without noticeable loss of detail.
I consider doing the a7r IV but that might actually be a little too overkill for me LOL.
      What are your thoughts?

@@WIHRC remember there's more to it than the cost of the camera body. Price out a typical kit with what you have and the A7 IV. GM lenses. A FF Sony (or any other FF camera) kit can get pricey in a hurry.
For comparison, the APS-C Fuji X-T5 is about $1,00 less for the body and has a 40mp sensor compared to the A7's 33mp sensor. Fuji lenses are less expensive as well.
For me, cropping is a small concern. Since I grew up shooting with film (I got my first 35mm rangefinder camera in 1963 when I was 12), I got used to cropping in camera. When you shoot slides, you have no choice. Now I rarely crop.
Your A6700 can shoot lovely videos. Spend your money on a nice gimbal and some extra lenses and you'll be able to shoot great videos with the Sony/DJI combo.

@dougmacmillan1712 I appreciate your opinion on this. Really I like the redundancy features and the body of the A7 IV among the other features I talked about. Especially not having to use the 1.5 equation. I've already priced out some G lenses so I know the prices can get pretty crazy. I haven't been looking at the GM lenses yet since I figured I would start doing so after fleshing out my drone business and budgeting the cost from what I make with that.
What you said about the Fuji cameras is interesting. I kind of thought that Sony was taking the less is more in their pocket approach but now that is confirmed.
Just to clarify I'm using the a6600. The a6700 is something I was looking into however, I didn't like how the body had less custom buttons than the a6600 and to be honest I'm not all that much of a fan of the left flip out display.
All in all I appreciate the input and will factor in the things you mentioned.

Great active track evaluation test. Great walking path to use. I have seen your Air 3 test and your drone videos are appreciated as I am trying to decide between the Air3 and the Mini 4 Pro. Thank you for your time and effort in sharing your drone videos.

Thanks, I appreciate that much. I can see how that would definitely be a tough choice but really the main things are do you need the 3x camera, do you care about getting the most battery life, and will the size, and weight be something you're okay with in regards to the Air 3? The weight is especially a big one if you plan on traveling outside of the US since many places have different rules. There's also the wind resistance factor, but the mini 4 Pro holds up pretty well in the wind, just not as good as the Air 3 would.

@@WIHRCI don’t plan on traveling out of the US with my drone.
I get the impression that the Air 3 is more substantial in it’s size, power and build quality structure. I also feel that it would give me more room to grow in developing my desired photographic and video results. I know the Mini 4 Pro is quieter on take off and landing but do you think that with the 70mm second camera on the Air 3 that it can achieve an equal “quite” view at a higher altitude when compared to the lower noise Mini 4 Pro that would need to get closer for a comparable view.
Do you think that the camera options on the Air 3 offset the noise level when trying to film without disturbing others or wildlife when compared to the quieter Mini 4 Pro?

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@kenramsey2304 gotcha. In my honest opinion the 3x camera on the air 3 is definitely a good tool to have but I think that's only going to be true if it's something that you'll use more often than not. In my case I found that I only used it a couple of times to do one or two Parallax shots but this is also something I forced myself to learn to do on the 1X camera since I usually fly my mavic 3 or my mini 3 Pro (now the Mini 4 Pro). I try to have a very particular use case when it comes to purchasing any kind of tech and the only reason I can see getting the Air 3 again is maybe for Real Estate photos or something similar but I've found that I can do that on my Mavic 3 also.
My apologies for making this reply so long but essentially what I'm getting at is if you feel that you have a specific use case for that 3x camera then I definitely say go for it but if you find that you'd use it only from time to time it may not be worth it.
The noise factor is honestly something you will become used to. I tend to use situational awareness around every area I fly in but not once has anybody complained that any of the drones I use are too loud and the fact of the matter is that the higher you fly the quieter they get if you get what I mean. Also taken into account the ambient sounds in your environment. For example, if you're at a waterfall, the initial sound of the drone might be loud, but once you take it higher, the sound of that waterfall will most likely drown it out....... assuming it's a busy waterfall, LOL

@@WIHRC Thank you for your time and your detailed and helpful reply.
I guess I am thinking about enjoying the power and stability of the Air 3 and it’s dual camera capabilities while using the 70mm camera to get a focal view at a further distance but equal to the Mini 4 Pro while maintaining the same quiet low noise factor that that the Mini 4 Pro has at the closer physical distance it needs to get the same focal shot. The Air 3 should also give the same wide 24mm views and night mode options as the Mini 4 Pro.
This will be a big investment for me and I may be over analyzing it but I want to try to get the most potential out of what I hope will be my only drone purchase along with possible ND and Polarization filters that I can use to improve my results.
Thank you again for your valuable time and feedback.

@kenramsey2304 you're welcome. You'll definitely enjoy the Air 3 for sure aside from what I said, it's nowhere near being a bad a bad product and there is definitely room to scale with it. Enjoy.

You could use that wee drone to find big foot. It looks quite windy where you're at so you're doing a good job so far.

Funny enough, there's a town nearby that advertises bigfooting sightings. I can't remember exactly what was going on that day but I believe it was pretty windy so thanks for the complement for sure.

Much appreciated. Yeah that trail can be a little tough depending on how far in you go but I have that root set just for that test. It just so happens that it's located at a higher altitude so the air is a little hard to breathe sometimes.
