Speaking from own experience, having a baby can change a couple's relationship dynamics greatly. Not sugar coating it, having a kid is like 50% stress, 50% worry, and 100% exhaustion. Also 100% being broke all the time if you don't make above median income. There has to be teamwork and support from both partners and many things needs to be planned out and agreed upon or there will be problems.
