A straight DC locomotive on a dcc system is not a bad thing or bad sound. It is merely "pulsed" DC on the motors... a continous "buzz" or like a vibration of the motor brushes on the "poles." You could say that the sound is idling motors or engines. Standard power-packs with "no-frills" has the A.C. which Will damage standard D.C. motors, if connected to track with straight D.C. locomotives on it. I have debated on buying this device from my local hobby shop (LHS)... but, since you have done this review, I think I will go and buy it in the near future. Thanks for your MRC Tech 6 review! You've done well! John
can you run DC and DCC simultainiously?? I think you addressed that but just want to make sure. seems like when you switch to "Dual" mode, DC doesn't work which makes "Dual" seem a bit misleading. Thanx
These are NO-LONGER available, from M.R.C.! They have no parts to sell, but will attempt to repair your unit, if you mail-it-in. The labor, "ain't cheap!" :( Forget a warranty, as these were sold too long ago, to still have a warranty... :(
I know this is an old video and I apologize but this is the only video I found with the Review of a Acutal Controller I wanted to see. The question about this Controller? Did you had any issues with it Running on your layout?
Nah, mine's gonna be HO 4x8 2 MRC's. I will Isolate 1 track with one MRC and the rest will have another. I like to run a separate DC/DCC so that way I won't burn out my DC. I use my Track Plan and plan ahead :). Your video gave me the courage to buy one of these. Thank you for uploading a video about this controller. I hope more will be out there.
I call the Tech 6 a "poor man's" DCC system since it will do the same things a a Digi Traxx Zephyr with the handheld throttle. I love my Tech 6 and handheld because it gives me the opportunity to use my older DC engines or by pushing the mode button I can use my DCC or my DCC/Sound units. ..
Mine just arrived yesterday, and the controller and box design still looks the same after 9 years. Must be a good system.

Your welcome. It's a great system.
I have a question, how can I make 2 DCC locomotives walk in the same direction but turned upside down?

Nothing about the connectors.
I am using HO scale Kato Unitrack. I would like to know what needs to be done in connecting this unit to the Unitrack.

So on h.o will it do the same on 2 wire?

I had no issues running it on ly layout, as my layout wasn't that large. You may end up having issues on a larger layout.

what about more than one DC address
No, the engines won't move if it were something different, it does let you reset the decoder to 03.
I'll have a new video soon, and I'll show the Kato unitrack connection
Would this Tech 6 be the least expensive system to program a dcc engine's cv's at home without a layout? I run at a local RR club.
are you saying its like dcc controller with the numbers and can control different trains but with dc trains
it works with only one DCC address, and it's the default address of 03. But yes, it's like a DCC controller.
can you control 2 engines at the same time on that?
No..You will need the Tech 6 handheld throttle and then you can address up to 6 engines.
Do the locos have to have a decoder or does the unit make the train sounds instead? Thanks
The locos have the decoder.
