    Another excellent video Mark, well done. All my shooting was done in Sussex, firstly in the Brighton area and after that the Eastbourne area. I only ever used shotguns and air rifles. I haven't been out for about six years now, unfortunately serious illness and age caught up with me. I really do miss those early mornings seeing the sun come up, I always tried to be on the land by 4am during the summer.
    Geoff.

    Hi Mark, I watch your videos for two reasons, first off, I’m an Ex Pat now living in New Zealand so I enjoy seeing the English countryside which I miss. The second reason is, I’m a shooter / hunter too. I do a little pest control, rabbits, possums and geese; plus, I also like to put venison and goat in my freezer.
    I was predominantly a shotgun shooter, so relatively new to rifles.
    I reload my .243 Winchester ammo.
    I was out checking my ability and my load across a chronograph this week and found my velocity on the last 7 shots of 10 shots started dropping off from between 5 & 7 fps.
    I only neck size, brass has been fired at least 6 times but not been annealed!
    I do not crimp my bullet and my bullet is 10 thou from the lands.
    The accuracy has only gone off a touch though.
    I’m in the process of building my own annealing machine.
    Any ideas please?

      Do you interest in pistol shooting? I heard it’s legal in NZ.

    • @richardt.4224
      @richardt.4224 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good morning Mark (NZ Time).
      Back when I was twenty and still using air rifles and shotguns on the farm,
      I got interested in black powder and had a SxS Pedersoli percussion, but I
      also had a BP ML dueling pistol (legal without a licence as you will know).
      I couldn't hit a barn door from the inside 😄, so No, not interested in pistols.
      But yes, we are still allowed to own and use pistols here in NZ, but the restriction
      are there and you can't hunt with one, all shooting has to at a registered range.
      Range regulations have been tightened up a great deal here.
      I just turned 70 and treated myself! I sold my SH Tikka T3X in 243 Win (it had gone
      off the boil) and I bought a Tikka T3X Aspire in 243 Win, but I transfered the set trigger
      from my old rifle T3X and fitted side QD sling mounts and a short rail under the forend,
      for a QD bipod. I have an Arken EPL on top. But it doesn't like ammo I reload, so
      back to ladder testing. Today I'm testing different bullet seating. Where do you seat yours?
      I was hunting with a black powder muzzle loading patch round ball rifles (54&50) for a while,
      but I was finding it harder to stalk into a range where an ethical kill was possible.
      I had taked quite a few Fallow and some Wallabies with it before selling them.
      I then changed to the Tikka and have not looked back since.
      Goats and Fallow are my favourite, as I can carry them out of the bush.

      Hector,
      Mark goes over some of his kit here th-cam.com/video/Dx755shesHc/w-d-xo.html
      He skips the actual rifle build, though.
      From memory it's built on a Rem 700 action rebarreled to .260 Rem by a UK custom builder.
      I can't find the vlog where he talks about it, but it's probably on his own channel 260rips.

    • @260rips
      @260rips ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I think I’ve gone over it a couple of times in the past on the 260rips channel but here’s a quick run down!
      So yes as stated it’s a custom built 260 rem built on a rem 700 blueprinted action with a jewel trigger set at 1.5lb. It has a 24” semi varmint Bartlien barrel with a 1-8.5 twist, Mae t12 scout moderator, accuracy international folding stock, atlas bipod topped with a element nexus 5-20x50 scope and one piece Sportsmatch mount.
      Ammunition is handloaded 143 grain eld-x bullets over 41.7 grains of n160, lapau brass and federal or magtec primers.

    It is amassing what a human can do if he buys and owns and adds and operate an engineered powerful prosthetic aid to enhance his limited human features. With respect to what they do, many people, including pilots, are born with a congenital disorder not having wings of their own, so, with wrapping around them an engineered prosthetic aid, called "an aircraft" they do claim that , "We can fly!" after they train very hard to make, SAVING THEIR OWN LIFE the first priority in their checklist. Many humans love to wear "wheels" to go faster than their legs can carry them.
    .
    I would say, "well done" to any hungry hunter who can kill to eat, or " varminting" at 536 yards, if he does it with, his bare hands, a trap, a blow tube, a bow and arrow or a cross bow, which he made himself.
    This is like bullfighting, the match between hunter and hunted is not well and fairly balanced is it? At least this hunter did not laugh every time he hit the live target as I seen what some hunters did when they hunted Canadian geese! If a hunter needs to kill, at least do not laugh about it! I must congratulate this hunter for his attitude towards his kill, which he needs to do to protect the lambs.

    Long time ago I have injured fox very badly, I found it alive but dying for sure next day in a stream, I realized that for my joy I did something very bad... it was long shot and probability of this is growing with distance...Being good hunter and good person means avoiding long range shooting(hunting)..

    • @robertmuir734
      @robertmuir734 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      more of not taking shots you dont know you can make under the current conditions. If you cant judge the wind well don't shoot at game on a windy day. practice on paper/steel/etc until you know what your shot will do. distance doesnt make a shot unethical, lack of skill for the shot does. this man does not lack the skill.

    • @mirekslechta7161
      @mirekslechta7161 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertmuir734 If according to you longer distances do not cause more crippled animals (when executed by skilled hunter/shooter), than you simply do not know what you are talking about. You kind of stated, that his groups on paper target remain the same size...at any distance.
      If you admitted, that his groups would grow in size with longer distances, that you would also have to admit, that the probability of crippling the animal is also growing with longer distances, no matter the level of his skill. Of course good shooter is able to make ethical shot at longer distance than an average shooter , but everyone has it´s limit. When you see him happy that he managed (this time)..., it means he was shooting beyond his limit already, where 10 shots out of ten would be perfect like in this video. I know it is tempting to try it, when you see a fox at long distance. On the other hand I am almost 100% sure, that there is no such a hunter on this planet who would not experience some misses as well as woundings only... Certain percentage is OK. What is that level ? 70% 80% 90% I do not know. I only wanted to emhasize, that we could be even better hunters, if we would manage to get closer without being noticed.

      Yes regularly. I watch all manner of songbirds, hares and other wildlife and enjoy seeing them, this is one of the reasons I shoot foxes and crows as both predate songbirds and other wildlife that I would much rather see on the farm.
      The other reason is to protect the livestock on the farm which is why I am able to shoot here.
