Steve Blake was so good. Dixon at his peak. Wilcox jumping out the gym. Baxter a low post force. Mouton, Holden, Nicholas, and Randle all playing their roles perfectly. What a team.

Thank you for posting this. I remember they met early season, and Connecticut was really talented, but young. In this game they showed how truly dangerous they were, and ultimately Maryland wins the national title this year but then Connecticut has its day in 2004

Yea this UConn team got so much better throughout year. Some players said how the loss to Maryland early in year was turning point for them. They definitely were hoping for rematch and gave Maryland their toughest game of their title run. I thought they’d win Title following year, but their Big East Rival Syracuse did, waiting 1 more year for title in 04. Their 2nd of 5 titles from 1999 to 2023. Most successful school of this century! (Counting 1999, 5 titles in 24 years)

Most teams that win the national title have that one game during the tournament where they have to survive, and then look back on and say "whew, that was the game where we easily could have lost. Thank goodness we got past that one." This was that game for the 2002 Maryland team.

The comment @43:50 goes to show how powerful nostalgia is when we're comparing current players/teams vs those from the past. It's the same today when people think 90's players would dominate today. This is the only Maryland team to ever win a national championship and Packer and Nantz acted like they shouldn't be compared to non-championship Maryland teams from the past.

UConn makes a layup with 2:32 to play. Then for some reason they show a graphic at the 1:10 mark saying UConn is in a scoring drought with 0 FGs in the last 3:30

They were stacked though they were young and they were going against the team that all tournament seem like they were just to win it all referring to Maryland with their great coach. It’s OK because in 2004 two years later, UConn was even more stacked & subsequently won their 2nd. I’m sitting here, watching this exciting game right after UConn won its 6th NCAA Championship.
PS: UConn’s now a blue blood team!

Matthew Dahle have most if not all. St. John’s game in 07 was blocked a while back. Working thru requests and chronological order along with some randoms. Not sure I can upload all but should be able to do most. Plan on working on 2001 post season next since most of those games have been pulled from TH-cam.

I was going to post same message. I always hated him calling our games. During season when we blew out Duke, he’d point out everything wrong, but nothing is worse than National Title game and his criticism of Blake. It got to point it sounded personal.

@@chrisuncleahmad Hardly consider a #2 seed a broken bracket. But you were also dealing with a far superior coach than Roy Williams at Kansas. I have always felt Roy WIlliams was over-rated. At Kansas, he was in a one team league. Easy to look good. He won the NC at UNC, but only because he has coached at two of the blueist of blood schools in the nation, and could get talent. But I don't think he was ever a good coach. Gary Williams used to beat him rather regularly, even though Roy had superior talent. That is why he never won a NC at Kansas. Very over-rated.
Calhoun on the other hand.....he could coach. And I still say, this was the game I felt less confidence in during this whole tournament.
