Queen also did a nice homage to the Lumière brothers' 1902 silent film "A Trip to the Moon" in their video for "Heaven For Everyone". Queen were really aware of what they were doing with their music videos, and that made them just as artistically relevant in the 1980s as they had been in the 1970s.

Terrific - I didn't expect somebody to have already done this. The only problem is, the footage of the band in the hovercraft was degraded on purpose, but now looks much worse than the Metropolis footage :D
The good thing is it looks like it all still exists. There are 'outtakes' in glorious HD on the Days of Our Lives blu-ray. Maybe one day they'll remaster it themselves?
The irony with this is even the non-Metropolis scenes in this look much better than the official upload here on TH-cam. Whoever runs the Queen TH-cam channel really needs to reupload this song because the version they have looks awful. I love low quality videos and preserving parts of old TH-cam history with the quality, but a separate reupload at least would be nice. The DVD source of the non-Metropolis footage in this video looks much better.

The restored movie footage is great! Now, all we need is for the entire music video footage to be restored. Once that’s done, we can combine the restored music video footage with the restored movie footage and we’ll have an entire music video remastered and restored!
This song gives me the same kind of chills when I was watching Blade Runner ... and Blade Runner took some inspirations from Metropolis ... and Metropolis is featured in the music video of this song ... its full futuristic circle bliss for me :)
