    Wonderful video as always! Quick question regarding the inertial separator: As you mentioned, it should be operated whenever there are icing conditions. In the manual it mentions that the operating speed of the aircraft when using the inertial separator is around 200 knots. Does this mean that the pilot should slow the plane down to 200 knots to operate the inertial separator and then keep the speed at or below 200 knots when utilizing the inertial separator? Thank you.

    • @TheGbelcher

      I read that as you shouldn’t turn the inertial separator on or off above 200 kts but you could right.
      I can’t think of a reason why you’d want to fly that fast with it on tho.

Great vid, looks like I may have a new favorite airplane, especially since I prefer the old school stuff on a GA plane to begin with... Sign of age? I still taxi into position and hold, so...

  • @toml7465

    Great video, however I think there's something wrong with the behaviour of the engine in climb: to my understanding as the airpressure diminishes in the climb, the air gets "thinner", hence the propeller has less air to "grab" which will cause the torque to go down so that you have to add power - until you reach the ITT limit. That will happen somewhere between 15k to 20k ft., and from there on you'll have to reduce power to stay within the ITT limit.

  • @desmodromic4586

    TRQ should decrease in a turboprop as you climb as the air gets less dense....the propeller pushes air easier as you climb, thus in a TP you need to increase throttle if you want to keep the same TRQ

    • @Treadstone7

      The torque indication refers to the torque of the engine shaft, not the propeller. The prop torque doesn't change (unless you change the prop RPM) since it's a constant speed prop. Torque is the turning force applied by the engine to the prop. It has little to do with air resistance because a torque is only calculated by force x lever length (arm).
      If I understand it correctly, overtorqueing the engine means putting too much load on the prop (which needs to maintain 2000RPM). With the prop's limited possibility to translate excess engine torque into forward motion, things can backfire and damage the engine.
      With less air density at altitude, the prop turns faster due to less air resistance with the same amount of engine power. Being regulated by the prop governor, it's not really translated into higher RPM but with less air resistance, the engine is actually applying more force on the prop than necessary (Torque increases). Which can lead to engine damage if power is not reduced with altitude.
      At least that's how I understand it. Otherwise your argument would mean that black square modeled these engine parameters incorrectly.

    Sadly this plane is supposed to save its state but is often reseted so it doesn't work. Black Square knows that issue but has no solution.

    Thx for a comprehensive video as always however I have a question. I’ve looked thru the manual but wasn’t sure about one thing. There isn’t an Auto Throttle function so what’s the purpose of the IAS on the autopilot panel ? to hold the current indicated airspeed ? It’s probably in manual but I missed it.

    • @michag9

      You use it like flight level change, it will pitch to maintain the given airspeed

    • @magneticmonopole

      Most likely you would use it for climb. Each aircraft has Vx and Vy speeds, that are, best angle and best climb rate respectively. Sometimes you want to keep up either with Vx or Vy during climb. That's the purpose of using IAS or FLC.
