  • Hi everyone,
    Welcome back to the Shed.
    This is the first video featuring my GSXR750 SRAD and welcome along to watch me carry out a full service on this beautiful machine!
    I change the oil and filter, swap out the OEM air filter for a K&N item, change the plugs and drop and change the coolant.
    I hope you enjoy the video.

    Just finished doing all this to my SRad. The only thing I did differently is disconnect the spark plug wire first, and changed each spark plug one by one.Thanks for your great video!

    Nice work, just purchased a clean Srad and wanted to reassure myself of the service process on this bike. You used the best oil as well although I'm not getting into that 😀. With the screw that's damaged the sticker you could spray up a washer to match the colour then do the other side so it doesn't look odd it should hide it. Nice clean bike by the way. 🤘

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doing so serves no purpose other than to make an oily mess on the floor! You'll no doubt be aware that this engine requires 3500ml of oil when totally dry after an engine rebuild. It requires 2800ml of oil to fill to the max mark after an oil change. This means that there is still approx 700ml of oil inside the engine even after draining the oil pan. For some reason people seem to think that the engine runs dry just because the oil filter hasn't been filled before fitting. Absolutely pointless exercise, but if it makes you feel better then feel free to do it on yours!

    When I want to avoid spillage on the exhaust I wrap some aluminium foil around it. That looks like an immaculate SRAD btw. Last year I picked one up that had been standing still for 6 years in a shed. All it took was a service like you did, a carbrettor revision kit (mine is a 97 carburetted one) and a new fuel tap. Runs like a dream with 74K kilometers on the clock. Good times running that besides my R1200S.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a great idea about the foil on the exhaust and I’ve had a lot of people make that very suggestion! It’s simple but highly effective and I’m stunned that I hadn’t thought of it before! Great tip for a great bike! Good times indeed! 👌🏻😎

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 6 pot brakes require routine maintenance to keep in top condition and working as intended. Fuel tanks can be found rusting inside if moisture has been allowed to get in. The rectifiers can be troublesome but other than that, all round excellent bikes!

    Why not use Shell Helix Full Synthetic motorcycle oil? It’s the best I know for these bikes.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment buddy and thanks for watching, oil is a very subjective thing in the same way tyres are and one persons opinion on the subject will not be the same as another’s. However, I do not use a fully synthetic oil in any of my bikes. In my experience, fully synthetics can cause clutch slip in some instances and EBC even state on the packaging for some of their clutches that fully synthetic oils should not be used in conjunction with them. Obviously this comment is not aimed at causing an argument on the topic but merely my opinion!

    • @gold333
      @gold333 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KevsShed Ah cheers for the advice, thank you. Thanks for the video as well! I always thought full synths were the best. I didn't know they had some counterpoints as well. I have a 99 SRAD 750 with low 8000miles (a museum example, pretty much same as yours). I rarely ride it though and I've had a pleasant experience with the Shell Helix FS as I mentioned. Which oil would you recommend or do you use?
      My bike used to fire into life immediately with just a quarter revolution of the starter engine like yours, but lately it takes quite a few cranks for it to turn over. That's with a brand new battery. I'm suspecting it's the plugs or the quality or brand of oil at this point.

I feel a lot more enlightened and feel that I can definitely use this video for reference 100%. I can tell you’re very passionate and serious about what you do as it’s your own bike. Thank you for your time. Please raise awareness with your go to videos. Thanks again. Also just an idea I’m confused with the speculation behind A1 and A2 category with regards to restriction on a 600 I hope I’m saying this right I think you get the gist. I’m hoping you can shed some light on the dos and don’ts for a young person riding a 600 as his first bike on the roads.

    How crazy would I be to pick up one of these in 2020? I love the classic GSX-Rs and the 98/99 is probably my favorite that at least have fuel injection to avoid constant carb maintenance. Any specific problem areas I should look for when bike shopping? I know it won't be as problem free as a new bike, but I just love this generation of GSX-R and it would have to be an especially bad ownership experience to make me turn away. I'm well aware of the normal old bike stuff, just wondering about anything specific to 98-05 GSX-R 750s and if any particular year is especially good or bad.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get one, you won’t regret it! The only real thing with the SRAD models to watch for is the R/R as they aren’t the best and also check for excessive cam chain noise. Some owners fit manual tensioners and these are fine as long as they are correctly adjusted 👍🏻

    • @formulaultralight4989
      @formulaultralight4989 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevsShed What do you mean by "R/R"? What should I be listening for for the cams and what kind of problems/expenses should I expect if I was to hear it? Would it just need a chain replacement or is the noise representative of something bigger? As with anything, if the bike is otherwise perfect, what kind of money should I talk the seller down to offset either issue? A perfect bike rarely exists as we all know, so it's just about arming myself with how much each issue will cost to fix to get a fair price on a mostly good bike.

    What does eneal the sump plug mean?

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Annealing is the process by which you soften the copper washer (not the plug) helps to ensure a good tight seal. Annealing also allows you to reuse a previously used copper washer too! It work hardens as force is applied during the tightening process. Aluminium washers cannot be an annealed however and must always be replaced!
