I agree with bromo5 4:35 to 4:54 Love these moves! Songs : #1Michael Jackson - Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-da-day #2 James Brown - I refuse to lose #3 Devil's Gun CJ & Company
Hmm, you have some good points there m8. At first I found that the GoGo brothers rightfully won this one, but after reading your arguments you convinced me that P-lock and J-Soul nailed it ;). Thanks
Unbelievable gooooooot dam, both teams smashed it. We just witnessed history people, locking is the best dance form especially when you are synchronised with your locking buddy. Truly amazing display from both teams. I will be up all night pulling my groin trying to get my old to do at least one of the two teams moves lol.
C. J. and Company is a classic 'DISCO' song. Locking was just a memmory when this song was new. Mike Theodore was the producer. 3 disco albums he recorded still remain popular with the New York, Miami, and L.A. dancers who compete in yearly 'Ballroom' dance events. His music is timeless. The music is 30+ years old and still sounds fresh!
DAMN!!! Now, that is what I am talking about!!! Skill, but more importantly FUNKY! I hate seeing guys who got all sorts of tricks, but lack the funk. All these guys are funky. great battle!!!
the first song is Michael Jackson Shoo-bee-doo-bee-doo-da-day..can be found on the Michael Jackson Anthology album...and is a remake of the original Stevie Wonder song...
those which a way's by gogo brothers where so high, like they don't have any bones or something, and there moves, so polished. no doubt, they are the best lockers.
funk is a music genre. It appeared in the 1970 right after the disco era. On funk you can dance poppin, lockin or breakin. This vid is all about funk songs:)
lol it seems like poppin is the robot, locking is that weird elbow pump... thing, and krumping is beating the crap outta the air. and they all sorta have the footwork in common. Xo and then breaking is just awesome. :D
they probably improvised but I noticed moves being repeated. But to do any 2 man or group routine you cannot improvise. Unless each member has signals that they give eachother to prepare them for moves about to come.
EDIT: Not everything the Gogos did is to the crowd. They did battle, but individually. That's I guess the problem I have. In Japan, 2v2's are generally done as more of an "individual" thing (4 solos by 4 dancers) rather than having solos AND commando routines... However, I still stick to my comment about their cleanliness; J-Soul and P-Lock were cleaner.
also one of their teachers was a judge. Also, in terms of who BATTLED the most: Look at the clip! The Gogos do EVERYTHING to the CROWD. J Soul and P-Lock are facing their opponents the WHOLE TIME. The Gogos are performing; J Soul and P-Lock are BATTLING... Also, I know for a fact that the Gogos didn't even practice for UK BBoy Championships that year. In my opinion, it showed.
Freestyle is not > routines, In fact in team battles you are expected to do a routine. Thats why you have a partner otherwise it would just be 1 on 1 matches. Team battles: Routine > freestyle, unless you got some bad ass freestyle to overcome other peoples routines.
i remind you all that j.soul is part of the reason p.lock got to even battle the go go bros and p.lock went to the semifinals in justedebout 2005 and won justedebout 2006 cause j.soul
Popping is based around liquid styles and ticking. Making your body seem like one object. Locking involves 90 degree angles and a lot of pointing / body freezes. I'm a b boy so i don't really know the best way to put it, but the difference should kick you in the face.
the majority of these sets were choreography, although there was a bit more freestyling on the side of the gogo brothers. But regardless of whether it's freestyle or choreography, the funk should still be in the movements, instead of just hitting the locking positions. It still looks cool regardless.
@quicky2103 if you lock long enough you will see Hilty and Bosh lack the fundamental locking basics. yes they are fast and they do incredible moves, but not with pro level locking basics. gogo brothers do.
WRONG! Tony Go Go is their dad and he was their original teacher (watch the clips of them from Mo'Funky Style when they're kids... Also, look for the clip when they were in their teens... Their style looks more like him THEN... But if you look at them NOW, you will notice that their style is markedly more like that of SUGA POP. Pop even claimed to have made Yuu Go Go "the best in the world" at a jam up in Nor. Cal back in April. So, yes, my friend: I DO know who their teacherS are.

how the hell do they get back up on 2:56.... :O:O:O amazing... great locking !!!
Nope, it doesn't need to be slow, but it's harder to keep the locking groove (which is called 'the rock') when you speed things up. A lot of people will speed things up before they're ready or capable of keeping the rock in their movements, and when that happens, they're really not dancing anymore. It can still look cool, but the soul just isn't there anymore at that point.
Yeh but the thing is dat was a battle, not a show time, though French team is good, they are so organized, as if they had practiced those moves thousand times before they came, while GOGO looks most of their moves are improvised. I'd say I give a credit to them in that point.
to me this is the most awesome locking battle ever.
The guys from Japan's father was a famous pop and lock dancer in the USA
I could watch this a thousand times and still not get bored. These guys are SICK
@jigglinbabii it's called Locking buddy. (Not Popping) And for those that don't know, the Gogo Brothers (Japan) won this battle.
This is entertainment at its best.
I agree with bromo5
4:35 to 4:54 Love these moves!
Songs :
#1Michael Jackson - Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-da-day
#2 James Brown - I refuse to lose
#3 Devil's Gun CJ & Company
If you're talking about the song that starts at 1:50, it's "I refuse to lose" by James Brown.
Two of the best lockin duo's battling head 2 head great stuff. Moves are hott aswell as music.
Awesome locking battle!!
last song is Devil's Gun by CJ and Company
Thanks🎉
Hmm, you have some good points there m8. At first I found that the GoGo brothers rightfully won this one, but after reading your arguments you convinced me that P-lock and J-Soul nailed it ;). Thanks
Seriously my favorite video on youtube. LMFAO the style is siiiiiick!!!

They're both good, distinct styles.
The gogo brothers with their start and stop locking and Plock and Jimmy's flowy style.
Fantastic music. I think these songs really bring out the best in the dancers. Does anyone have any idea what tracks were used?

J-Soul and P-Lock owned this battle - no matter what. a pure clean routine and some nice original spin on some old stuff..
Gogo Brothers is the best!
A lot of people don't know that their father is Tony Gogo of "Lockers"(who invented lock dance). They are half japanese.
damn....i always smile when i see such energetic lockin....
@NOKLifeguardsCorfu actually, france is wearing clothing accurate to the period in which this form of dance was created.
I dont know where is from FRance and from Japan. But i only can say.. i found the boys in ORANGE veeeery coool and better than the other. !
DAMN!!! Now, that is what I am talking about!!! Skill, but more importantly FUNKY! I hate seeing guys who got all sorts of tricks, but lack the funk. All these guys are funky. great battle!!!

Track 1 - Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-be-doo-da-day Michael Jackson
Track 2 - I refuse to lose - James Brown.
Not sure what the third track is.
Both crews rocked the crowd, that's all that matters.

lol it seems like poppin is the robot, locking is that weird elbow pump... thing, and krumping is beating the crap outta the air. and they all sorta have the footwork in common. Xo and then breaking is just awesome. :D

Woahhh. Gogo brothers nailed it! P-lock's dope!
gogo brothers have sum sick clean locks
fair enuf, their dad is one of the masters who strted the whole locking thing ;)
thats awesome, was it made with the idea to dance slower to music, more groovy etc?
they probably improvised but I noticed moves being repeated. But to do any 2 man or group routine you cannot improvise. Unless each member has signals that they give eachother to prepare them for moves about to come.
5 points for you my friend. Top call
@juanachodance desde ya... ""Devil's Gun" C.J & Co. (1977) " sale.

@VinylJunky420, apparently the judges also did....

the classic locking battle of history
@BadBackBeast That's what locking is...the lock, the freeze...holding out
not bad thinking they do 2 people instead of one and they make it look clean.
P.lock and J.Soul have got more funk in my oppinion. GoGo brothers are amazing but its very start stop. Good battle
Name of japanese dencers please???

Yup that's true.
Their father is Tony Gogo.
sorry I just realised the tracks have been posted previously.

That was intense!!!
freestyle > choreographys
*¬* Gogo brothers are the best!
DAMN gogo brothers are so smooth!! vicious style.
@quicky2103 if you lock long enough you will see Hilty and Bosh lack the fundamental locking basics. yes they are fast and they do incredible moves, but not with pro level locking basics. gogo brothers do.

I agree. I think when they batttle, P-Lock wins the battle for them.
1:41 you know how they keep doing that slpit move onto the floor, what is it called?
Yeh but the thing is dat was a battle, not a show time, though French team is good, they are so organized, as if they had practiced those moves thousand times before they came, while GOGO looks most of their moves are improvised. I'd say I give a credit to them in that point.
