I totally agree. I just completed the main story on switch and it ran perfectly while docked. Only played that way. Only problem I found was there would be some lag when placing and breaking blocks where the visual wouldn't change.

I ask because you keep saying that "you can't bring materials from island to the other." You can bring materials back after you've beaten the island's story, and the Explorer's Shores reward you infinite of a material when you complete a checklist. Explorer's Shores rewards work on ALL islands the moment you unlock it. Even on islands that you haven't beaten the story on.

I'm not sure what you guys were on about not being able to carry your items and crafting back to the beginning island. I've only finished furrow fields so far, but when I went back to the awakening island or whatever it's called, every item I had in my extended inventory thing I had with me. Some of the crafting was gone and locked behind hearts, but everything I needed was there.
One hour is not very enough to verdict this game, this game is very zelda inspired shrine puzzle, dungeon, gliding, ocarina flute, with almost open world huge island
Funny how Zelda was inspired by Dragon quest mayamoto enjoyed Dragon quest 1 slow and metalogical approach to gameplay and he then made link to the past and the rest is history
Beat the first game, this is a great improvement to both the original and Minecraft. I definitely recommend it to anyone who liked Minecraft or didn't like Minecraft because of the lack of narrative and direction, but did love the building aspect. The complaint you have to "relearn" the recipes when you return back to the main island is pretty moot since all you're doing is touching the master building station and adding on the tools needed to work the island specific materials. When you say it like that it sounds like you have to go through the entire process of learning, which would take ages. The combat was better explained in the original game, where they straight up explain to you that you are BUILDER and BUILDER no good at fighting. This game at least is kind enough to give you a companion with actual fighting abilities, with the Minecraft formula evolving through Square Enix we should continue to see improvements as DLC/Future games release....I hope. You guys should have played the original, it would give you some perspective on the improvements made here, it really improved in a lot of ways. There are definitely some framerate drops, and noticeable input lag when playing docked. I will defend it in saying that it's not really a game where 60fps is crucial, though I do wish the input lag wasn't there.

Liznak Leonhardt the weeb trash character models don’t blend with the voxel style. Minecraft’s textures are simple and clear, but are detailed enough. Everything is slower and less rewarding. Building mechanics in this are incredibly restrictive compared to Minecraft’s vast freedoms. Combat is worse. Minecraft doesn’t have deep or really even good combat, but it feels connected and grounded with the retry of the game. Sure, a texture on a block might be better, but the actual core experience is worse. No more needs to be said

25+ hours on the first island.........? For real? What are you even doing? How? Just how? I did all quests and puzzles, in less then 8 with no walkthroughs. It’s been about 6-8 hours per main island.
You don't have to agree with me but, this review sounds likes it's given by people that either don't like jrpgs or really don't play with them. Their words were constantly stumbling just to say jrpgs like saying that combination of words was supposed to hurt or something. Maybe it's just me but, none of them sound like jrpgs fans to begin with. Kind of like that guy who played the doom game but, really sucked at it and then said the game mechanics were bad but, really it was him. I don't think you are understanding the idea of reviews. Reviews are personal to the person who is playing the game. If these guys aren't really into this game they'll say that. If they had Brian in this video instead he probably would have said mostly positive things. But that doesn't mean they SHOULD have used Brian instead.

For instance not being able to bring items over from the isle of awakening is only true while going through the quest line. You still keep equipment like weapons and armor. Relearning recipe's is completely false. all you have to do is use the work bench and it automatically adds all recipes from the story chapter. And doing things out of order. You can do stuff out of order and it still works. For instance If you are told to upgrade the town but you already have done so it will complete the quest right after you initiate it.

I really have to disagree with you guys. In my game (which you can watch on my channel); not only was I able to bring things back from Furrowfield Farms, but I was able to back a second time and bring stuff back with me I needed. I also had all my recipes from that island. Now; I haven't been able to go to the next island yet; as I'm still trying to finish up the Isle of Awakening, but I'll get there soon. Not sure if this is some kind of glitch; or maybe after the last patch, the fixed the game so you can bring this over, I haven't read the patch notes on it. Still; I played the first DQB and loved it; so I'm really enjoying this one even more because of all the improvements they made to the game. My buddy who also played the first is calling t his one Dragon Crack Builders because it's so addicting!
I agree with you. I think they moved backwards on the time it takes for timed recipes to finish, but other than that all the QOL improvements are amazing!
The game literally has an icon for what to do next all the time. How does one not know what to do next? Also, I'm sure you lose the items from the previous items to keep it from breaking the progression in the next island
The thing that you cannot bring resources to one island to another is not entirely true. That only happens 4 times on the history, when you go to a new plot island you start fresh, then, you bring everything back to the main island.
Okay I don't like to sound like an ass, but you guys clearly do not like this genre of game. You guys felt like you didn't want to be there and are just reviewing the game like you put in your two weeks notice and don't care what happens. Because of that a lot of points you guys made in the review were just flat out wrong. I'm actually really disappointed.
I think if you stick to opening the bag with the up button, you won't accidentally talk to people in the town. I appreciate that the game does have a lot of control options to mess with and even options to change how the game looks.
For me one of the biggest problems with this game was it fighting if they would have just added a blocking mechanic and it sucks because a game like this won't add it they'll just add it when they make Dragon Quest Builders 3 added to that probably
About the Builder Bench in the main island problem. You can build a work bench from the different islands and you can take those workbenches with you. If you place one of those benches down in your main island it won’t have any restrictions or locked out items to make.
I feel like they are really new at reviewing video games so they need to relax more and when playing, explore more of your options so you dont miss anything

I watched all of this review. The extensive amount of dialog was a complaint. Based on what I read in the comments, it is my guess that the reviewers did not read most of the dialog. If you do not pay attention to the tutorials you might not understand the game play. If you do not pay attention to the quest givers you might not understand the missions. This game is rated for school age children and up. That means that the dialog must be easy enough for most people to understand. That also means that the combat must be easy enough for most people to understand. I do not feel the reviewers took the game's rating into account. I am disappointed with this review. Not because it makes the game look bad, but because it makes the reviewers look bad.
Jesus this review is terrible. They give you a lot of incorrect information, they don't seem to understand the point of the game, and give it shit for being unique in a building type game.

That feels like the dragon quest joker series you can easily put over 80 hours into just the main game itself then at least another 20 hours with after game content I mean does anyone play the joker series??!
Bit weird his controls have "open bag" mapped to a, which is how you talk to people. That's up on the left joycons buttons, for switch. Must be a PS4 issue
There are different settings that can influence the tool controls, default one was A for switching tool and talk to people. And in that mode I had some issues with talking to Malroth more then I wanted to, so I switched to tool control type 4, which is leaving the interact button only for interacting so no more accidental talks. Next to that there are also other info they got wrong like others pointed out already that you can bring over items from islands to others once you have completed the story of that story island. And you will need to because you have no real resources on your hub island like copper, iron, gold etc. Also do not know where they got the performance issues from in docked mode, my game runs smooth without to much trouble in docked mode all the time. Only had it one time it realy started to slow down after playing 10 hours straight but rebooting the system solved that problem. Guess they have a worse switch then I have? So in the end this review as others said feels realy half baked.
It doesn't metter if its canon, it doesn't meter if it makes sense... that main character is a super saiyan for me and no one is gonna change my mind...
I have played almost 95% of the game on switch in docked mode i have only had a few times with frame rate drops besides that its awesome docked or handheld.
Its a new island.. how are you going to bring over materials !? That makes no sense.. you're basically in possibly a different point in time or a new part of the world, that would make the game way too easy and illogical. Also you should involve Brian for this review, i'm hearing a lot of skepticism from the understanding of WHAT the game actually is.
Dragon quest B2 is not a remake of DQ 2. It takes place AFTER the end of DQ 2 while Builders 1 was an alternate time line where the hero betray everyone and accepted the Dragon lord deal to rule HALF of the world, so yeah none of you did any fucking research.
Weird her docked gameplay was jittery and stuttering. I'm on the final story island right now and I've had very few issues, maybe ten seconds worth of stutter total and it was on island two, where there was like 30 townsfolk, while enemies were attacking.
It's never been confusing. Their is a story that you can follow that does a real good job of guiding you through. Watching this feels like all of you barely played and looked for anything you could nitpick on. You complain the world is to big. Really wtf? A big open game is great. Every new story island almost felt like it's own game but in dqb2 they actually tied all the islands together compared to 1. You also complain about every new story island you lose all items. You have to or you will be way to over powered and could just bomb rush right though base levels. It also helps keep each story island more specific to their theme. After you beat the island you can then take items to and from those story items. You also say the combat is bad and no dodge. You learn the mechanics of the enemies and weave in and out attacking. You actually can move away from attachable so it's not like other games similar expect there is no way to avoid range or melee attacks. You also kept saying it's like minecraft. The only aspect at all that is like minecraft is the concept of building and that's it. Combat, graphics, story are all different and better then minecraft. Even the building in this game that you could say is like minecraft is still very different and much better. Pro controller on tv does not feel off at all it works just fine. Will agree some drops in frame rate on tv but it was very minor for me. Only really happened frequently if I was flying moving fast to areas with a lot going on. Really poor review that felt rushed. Something I'd expect from a games uranlist complaint about how much water there is in a water based game. You guys are better off sticking to news and stay far away from reviewing games if you plan to just do a half backside job of it. Solid thumbs down from me.
i personally love the game, but i hope dqb 3 will have better combat - i am so content that they stick with the turn-based for main-line titles- so the battle-system from builders could be a bit faster and maybe a little bt more flashy and it definitly needs a dodge roll.
I beat it the other day. Very good when you play through it. Just mainly progress the story like an RPG because you can always go back to most islands later. Our preconceived ideas we bring from minecraft doesn't help.
Problem is I regretted purchasing the first game at full price. I really disliked the chapters being reset points. Kinda hard to get creative with a town when you never see that town again. Neither the game or demo informed me that would happen either. I'm not sure how this was handled in DQ Builders 2, but the first game just wasn't for me because of elements like this. Loved the nostalgia factor though. Getting that slime harp that changes the music to 8-bit was especially nice as I played Dragon Warrior as a kid. And yes, the first one on the NES was indeed called Dragon Warrior rather than Dragon Quest.
There is no reset in DQB2, just each story island you start with an empty pocket. After chapter complete (and not in events) you can freely go back and forth between hub island and most story islands bring stuff around.
Yeah sorry this review is total garbage. I'll try to answer your concerns and hopefully be more useful then this trash review. So you have a main island called island of awakening. Think of it like your free build mode island in dqb1. You leave this main hub island to explore other massive story islands. Every thing you learn and all items you find in these story islands you can eventually take back with you to your main island. You also cant bring any items with you to these story islands u till you beat there quest line. After finishing an islands quest line you will then be free to move hack and forth between your hub island and those story islands so you can potentially go back to the first story island with all the knowledge and items of later islands to keep building them up in different ways. A lot of negative aspects from the first they have improved. It's a lot easier to build and change walls/floors with new tools. You can now travel faster with gliding. You can also teleport around each island when you unlock and find their portals. And to give you an idea of each islands size it's like dqb1 chapter islands if they would not have sperated the island with portals. All 3 portals are basically attached to the main chapter island. If you liked the first one I'd highly suggest this game. Massive improvements in all the right areas. The only real true aspect you can get from this horrible 20 minute video is dqb2 is massive with a ton of content that will take time to beat.

I'm glad that you gave them tips on how to do something that they've all been very successful at doing professionally for years. I'm sure that they appreciate it. This is more of a free form discussion about the game. It's a lot more relaxed than more reviews are, and plenty of people enjoy the more intimate and conversational style. It's cool if you don't like it, but calling it "annoying and incoherent" is a little undeserved. The tired old format that you gave as an example is still used by dozens of other reviewers. Go watch those.
Dude is this inside gaming now? Like there was such a chemistry with their past videos. Made me really look forward to each video even when I wasn’t interested in some news they were talking about. This review is pretty doubtful, just the description already xD It's not even close to Minecraft and obviously, it's based on the dragon quest RPGs. Lots of the comments below already point on the wrong information given so won't go there. Its a good game with improvements from game 1 and you can decide how many hours you spend on each island. It can be 8h but it can also be 20h.
I don't understand how you had issues for the switch. I have been playing the game for days. I never noticed any frame rate drops at all. Dock and handheld never had any issues. Love this game and never played any dragon quest games other than Builders Series.
Was wondering this myself, been playing it docked for hours at a time with only tiny stutters occasionally. Maybe its because my TV is only a 28ins or so and not 2k? Lol its an old Samsung with screenburn from my mum leaving sky's TV guide page up too long, but its an old soldier that has been with me years. One way to help the game is not to let it run too long with sleep mode, turn the switch off completely for a bit so it can clear its RAM since all those villagers ai needs to run from someplace lol. There was a reddit user that posted a long post about pro's, cons and performance and spoke about managing your population versus your density of building. It kind of came down to, do you want to fill the isle with villagers, monsters and animals or do you want a sprawling metropolis with a couple of people but a decent frame rate lol. And if I remember right, they also looked to the ps4 and ps4-pro as well as switch.
There is way too many innacuracies in this review with the materials and recipes you talk about. You don't need to relearn recipes and you can bring all materials from other islands to your hub but you can't bring it from the hub to other islands as that would sort of ruin the point of building up the town if you just already had the materials.

DQB2 is way better than DQB1, dont believe this review because they are legit wrong at a lot of points. If you loved 1, you surely have to pick this up bc it improved on certain points.

I don't think you are understanding the idea of reviews. Reviews are personal to the person who is playing the game. If these guys aren't really into this game they'll say that. If they had Brian in this video instead he probably would have said mostly positive things. But that doesn't mean they SHOULD have used Brian instead.
@@alexbou7966 but there are so many points they are bringing up that are false. For instance not being able to bring items over from the isle of awakening is only true while going through the quest line. You still keep equipment like weapons and armor. Relearning recipe's is completely false. all you have to do is use the work bench and it automatically adds all recipes from the story chapter. And doing things out of order. You can do stuff out of order and it still works. For instance If you are told to upgrade the town but you already have done so it will complete the quest right after you initiate it.

Often reviews are done by non fans so than other non fans know if it is a good purchase. This really is a game for the fans. I feel like you'd either love it or hate it.

I really have to disagree with you guys. In my game (which you can watch on my channel); not only was I able to bring things back from Furrowfield Farms, but I was able to back a second time and bring stuff back with me I needed. I also had all my recipes from that island. Now; I haven't been able to go to the next island yet; as I'm still trying to finish up the Isle of Awakening, but I'll get there soon. Not sure if this is some kind of glitch; or maybe after the last patch, the fixed the game so you can bring this over, I haven't read the patch notes on it. Still; I played the first DQB and loved it; so I'm really enjoying this one even more because of all the improvements they made to the game. My buddy who also played the first is calling t his one Dragon Crack Builders because it's so addicting!
I agree with you. I think they moved backwards on the time it takes for timed recipes to finish, but other than that all the QOL improvements are amazing!

The game literally has an icon for what to do next all the time. How does one not know what to do next? Also, I'm sure you lose the items from the previous items to keep it from breaking the progression in the next island
The thing that you cannot bring resources to one island to another is not entirely true. That only happens 4 times on the history, when you go to a new plot island you start fresh, then, you bring everything back to the main island.
Okay I don't like to sound like an ass, but you guys clearly do not like this genre of game. You guys felt like you didn't want to be there and are just reviewing the game like you put in your two weeks notice and don't care what happens. Because of that a lot of points you guys made in the review were just flat out wrong. I'm actually really disappointed.

I think if you stick to opening the bag with the up button, you won't accidentally talk to people in the town. I appreciate that the game does have a lot of control options to mess with and even options to change how the game looks.

For me one of the biggest problems with this game was it fighting if they would have just added a blocking mechanic and it sucks because a game like this won't add it they'll just add it when they make Dragon Quest Builders 3 added to that probably
About the Builder Bench in the main island problem. You can build a work bench from the different islands and you can take those workbenches with you. If you place one of those benches down in your main island it won’t have any restrictions or locked out items to make.
I feel like they are really new at reviewing video games so they need to relax more and when playing, explore more of your options so you dont miss anything

I watched all of this review. The extensive amount of dialog was a complaint. Based on what I read in the comments, it is my guess that the reviewers did not read most of the dialog. If you do not pay attention to the tutorials you might not understand the game play. If you do not pay attention to the quest givers you might not understand the missions. This game is rated for school age children and up. That means that the dialog must be easy enough for most people to understand. That also means that the combat must be easy enough for most people to understand. I do not feel the reviewers took the game's rating into account. I am disappointed with this review. Not because it makes the game look bad, but because it makes the reviewers look bad.
Jesus this review is terrible. They give you a lot of incorrect information, they don't seem to understand the point of the game, and give it shit for being unique in a building type game.

Bit weird his controls have "open bag" mapped to a, which is how you talk to people. That's up on the left joycons buttons, for switch. Must be a PS4 issue
There are different settings that can influence the tool controls, default one was A for switching tool and talk to people. And in that mode I had some issues with talking to Malroth more then I wanted to, so I switched to tool control type 4, which is leaving the interact button only for interacting so no more accidental talks.
Next to that there are also other info they got wrong like others pointed out already that you can bring over items from islands to others once you have completed the story of that story island. And you will need to because you have no real resources on your hub island like copper, iron, gold etc.
Also do not know where they got the performance issues from in docked mode, my game runs smooth without to much trouble in docked mode all the time. Only had it one time it realy started to slow down after playing 10 hours straight but rebooting the system solved that problem. Guess they have a worse switch then I have?
So in the end this review as others said feels realy half baked.

I have played almost 95% of the game on switch in docked mode i have only had a few times with frame rate drops besides that its awesome docked or handheld.
I appricate that one guy who refuses to hang glide and instead grabs onto your feet.
Its a new island.. how are you going to bring over materials !? That makes no sense.. you're basically in possibly a different point in time or a new part of the world, that would make the game way too easy and illogical. Also you should involve Brian for this review, i'm hearing a lot of skepticism from the understanding of WHAT the game actually is.

Dragon quest B2 is not a remake of DQ 2. It takes place AFTER the end of DQ 2 while Builders 1 was an alternate time line where the hero betray everyone and accepted the Dragon lord deal to rule HALF of the world, so yeah none of you did any fucking research.
Weird her docked gameplay was jittery and stuttering. I'm on the final story island right now and I've had very few issues, maybe ten seconds worth of stutter total and it was on island two, where there was like 30 townsfolk, while enemies were attacking.
It's never been confusing. Their is a story that you can follow that does a real good job of guiding you through. Watching this feels like all of you barely played and looked for anything you could nitpick on.
You complain the world is to big. Really wtf? A big open game is great. Every new story island almost felt like it's own game but in dqb2 they actually tied all the islands together compared to 1.
You also complain about every new story island you lose all items. You have to or you will be way to over powered and could just bomb rush right though base levels. It also helps keep each story island more specific to their theme. After you beat the island you can then take items to and from those story items.
You also say the combat is bad and no dodge. You learn the mechanics of the enemies and weave in and out attacking. You actually can move away from attachable so it's not like other games similar expect there is no way to avoid range or melee attacks.
You also kept saying it's like minecraft. The only aspect at all that is like minecraft is the concept of building and that's it. Combat, graphics, story are all different and better then minecraft. Even the building in this game that you could say is like minecraft is still very different and much better.
Pro controller on tv does not feel off at all it works just fine. Will agree some drops in frame rate on tv but it was very minor for me. Only really happened frequently if I was flying moving fast to areas with a lot going on.
Really poor review that felt rushed. Something I'd expect from a games uranlist complaint about how much water there is in a water based game. You guys are better off sticking to news and stay far away from reviewing games if you plan to just do a half backside job of it.

i personally love the game, but i hope dqb 3 will have better combat - i am so content that they stick with the turn-based for main-line titles- so the battle-system from builders could be a bit faster and maybe a little bt more flashy and it definitly needs a dodge roll.
You do realize, of course, that Dragon Ball ≠ Dragon Quest. They have nothing at all in common, other than "Dragon" being in the title.

I beat it the other day. Very good when you play through it. Just mainly progress the story like an RPG because you can always go back to most islands later. Our preconceived ideas we bring from minecraft doesn't help.

Problem is I regretted purchasing the first game at full price. I really disliked the chapters being reset points. Kinda hard to get creative with a town when you never see that town again. Neither the game or demo informed me that would happen either.
I'm not sure how this was handled in DQ Builders 2, but the first game just wasn't for me because of elements like this. Loved the nostalgia factor though. Getting that slime harp that changes the music to 8-bit was especially nice as I played Dragon Warrior as a kid. And yes, the first one on the NES was indeed called Dragon Warrior rather than Dragon Quest.
There is no reset in DQB2, just each story island you start with an empty pocket. After chapter complete (and not in events) you can freely go back and forth between hub island and most story islands bring stuff around.
Yeah sorry this review is total garbage. I'll try to answer your concerns and hopefully be more useful then this trash review.
So you have a main island called island of awakening. Think of it like your free build mode island in dqb1. You leave this main hub island to explore other massive story islands. Every thing you learn and all items you find in these story islands you can eventually take back with you to your main island. You also cant bring any items with you to these story islands u till you beat there quest line.
After finishing an islands quest line you will then be free to move hack and forth between your hub island and those story islands so you can potentially go back to the first story island with all the knowledge and items of later islands to keep building them up in different ways.
A lot of negative aspects from the first they have improved. It's a lot easier to build and change walls/floors with new tools. You can now travel faster with gliding. You can also teleport around each island when you unlock and find their portals.
And to give you an idea of each islands size it's like dqb1 chapter islands if they would not have sperated the island with portals. All 3 portals are basically attached to the main chapter island.
If you liked the first one I'd highly suggest this game. Massive improvements in all the right areas. The only real true aspect you can get from this horrible 20 minute video is dqb2 is massive with a ton of content that will take time to beat.

This is more of a free form discussion about the game. It's a lot more relaxed than more reviews are, and plenty of people enjoy the more intimate and conversational style. It's cool if you don't like it, but calling it "annoying and incoherent" is a little undeserved. The tired old format that you gave as an example is still used by dozens of other reviewers. Go watch those.

This review is pretty doubtful, just the description already xD It's not even close to Minecraft and obviously, it's based on the dragon quest RPGs. Lots of the comments below already point on the wrong information given so won't go there. Its a good game with improvements from game 1 and you can decide how many hours you spend on each island. It can be 8h but it can also be 20h.

I don't understand how you had issues for the switch. I have been playing the game for days. I never noticed any frame rate drops at all. Dock and handheld never had any issues. Love this game and never played any dragon quest games other than Builders Series.
Was wondering this myself, been playing it docked for hours at a time with only tiny stutters occasionally.
Maybe its because my TV is only a 28ins or so and not 2k? Lol its an old Samsung with screenburn from my mum leaving sky's TV guide page up too long, but its an old soldier that has been with me years.
One way to help the game is not to let it run too long with sleep mode, turn the switch off completely for a bit so it can clear its RAM since all those villagers ai needs to run from someplace lol. There was a reddit user that posted a long post about pro's, cons and performance and spoke about managing your population versus your density of building.
It kind of came down to, do you want to fill the isle with villagers, monsters and animals or do you want a sprawling metropolis with a couple of people but a decent frame rate lol.
And if I remember right, they also looked to the ps4 and ps4-pro as well as switch.
There is way too many innacuracies in this review with the materials and recipes you talk about. You don't need to relearn recipes and you can bring all materials from other islands to your hub but you can't bring it from the hub to other islands as that would sort of ruin the point of building up the town if you just already had the materials.
They were just tired from staying up all night playing this game.
