This was quite helpful. My family and me will be in Palma in 2 weeks and from your guide it seems that we can do our own touring as opposed to a scheduled shore excursion

Be careful of not just bicycles that people illegally ride (fast) on pavements/sidewalks, but also people on electric scooters. People have been knocked over and broken their leg and their have even been cases of people who were knocked over and died as a result of being hit by someone illegally riding these scooters at high speed on pavements. In Mallorca, if you are walking on a pavement, never suddenly shift to the left or right without checking behind you, because you could easily be hit by a bike or scooter that is speeding towards you, assuming that the coast is clear, when you suddenly step into ´their´path.

Good advice everywhere. They then leave the bikes and scooters, as with mobility scooters, in emergency exits...

@@DorisVisits The biggest problem in Mallorca (and I think possibly Spain, though I don´t know mainland Spain as well) is a lack of consequences for not following rules. It is not that there are not rules. There are many rules, but many people don´t follow them and they keep not following them because they know that nothing will happen if they don´t. There also isn´t that sense of personal responsibility that we have in some other countries. No responsibility and no accountability and no sense of moral or ethical obligation.

There also isn´t that sense of personal responsibility that we have in some other countries. No responsibility and no accountability and no sense of moral or ethical obligation. These concept of consideration for other people is often completely lacking. When people think that only what they want or need and no one else matters, it is dangerous.
When people only do things because there might be a negative consequence for themselves if they don´t and have no sense of personal responsiblity or social conciousness, then this is what you get. It´s the result of a lack of education, not just at school, but from parents, from teachers, at university, in the workplace.
No consequences for swearing, for behaving badly, for being aggressive without any reason, for breaking rules, for putting others in danger, and the list goes on....
When attitudes of apathy, complacency, laziness are considered to be acceptable as the norm, there is not much potential for progress, especially when combined with a very low standard of education.

@@DorisVisits I don´t know if mainland Spain is like this too (I sincerely hope not), but I am very familiar with Mallorca having lived there for quite a few years and sometimes it really seems like anything goes and anything is allowed as long as you can pay for yourself to live there. Cash is all. Especially foreign cash.
