      That was definitely my favorite patch, and the most fun to play. There’s a lot of musical potential with the SubH, especially when paired with the other two.

    Hey there Tone. Thanks for giving us that demonstration on the Moog Subharmonicon. My neighbor turned me on to this when he called me up the other day and I decided to do a search and found your video. I have added your TH-cam channel to my library. I am an old-school synthesist. I have a theremin Etherwave that I bought from Bob back in 1994. I also have a Moog Liberation a Juno 06, as well as an assortment of other synthesizers. I would really love to add this to my collection. Thanx and cheers!

    Great review - you really show the capability of the instrument. I have a question though - is that a custom modular board or one you can purchase one just like it? I would love to see a picture of it - to see what is on it. You had such a great ambient vibe going. I like that it is all contained in a clean unit with a power button and everything.

    Best tutorial I’ve seen of this synth! Do you have your own channel with more content like this?

  • @HazeAnderson
    @HazeAnderson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just intonation (JI) and equal temperament (ET) are both Western in origin. We use ET because it is a compromise that prevents instruments from being too complex to even be constructed. We need roughly 30 different pitches (some notes have 2 different Hertz values! a note may be sharper depending on the key) per octave to represent the scale of JI but we only need 12 per octave in the scale of ET. And really only instruments that are capable of "sliding" or "bending" notes are able to adhere to the scale of JI and then and only then if the performer has the training and skill to pull it off. If you are still wondering why this has to be so "needlessly" complex ask yourself this ... you know what frequency A4 is ... it is 440 Hertz. What frequency is G4? What frequency is B4? C4? Logarithms are a bitch yo! 😂

      Long time guitar player here mate, been playing in rock bands since 1984, synths are a rabbit hole you never escape from, I started off wanting just one. Now I have rooms full of them plus drum machines and sequencers. It's a fun hole to be in though. I feel like I'm controlling something from NASA when I'm jamming with my gear

  • @livelooper

    It sounds really good. Only deal breaker for me would be that the sequences look like they are fixed to 4 steps. If so that's too harsh a limitation.

    • @tonethedestroyer5285
      @tonethedestroyer5285 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly the polyrhythm generators quickly turn those 4 steps into pretty dynamic sequences. Thanks for watching!

    This is just what I need, something else to make me think I was abducted because I realized that I don't remember having got up 3 days earlier! LOL. What I mean is I tend to get into fooling around with things that have a huge span of adjustments and infinite potential. When that happens, I think to myself; "OK, I can't mess around for this more than 15 minutes because I've got to be somewhere at 8:30 AM..."
    The next thing I know, it's dark outside, my cats are pissed off at me because I haven't refreshed their food dishes & water, and my head hurts! LOL
    FWIW,
    Rich,
    PS very good and detailed video, especially for someone who didn't know that they really have no justification for buying this.

    Great review! Were these sounds created with an attached MIDI keyboard or did you do it straight from the synths?

    • @tonethedestroyer5285
      @tonethedestroyer5285 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! All of these were done with the sequencers in the Subharmonicon, or a combination of the SubH, the Mother-32, and the DFAM. No MIDI here, but like I mentioned in the video, the Subharmonicon has a TRS MIDI in, and control using a MIDI keyboard is definitely something the Subharmonicon is capable of.
