I fondly remember this historical piece of relaxing synchronized and auditorium music as if it was yesterday but only 8 years ago!! I worked on the golf course and it was my first ever job and when this came on my Pandora station co-joined with Desmeon radio, I never replaced this memory. One of the best memories ever. Thank you Pretty Lights.
WHOA. Knew I recognized the intro to this song, been searching for it for 2 years and finally found it. Insomniac Olympics by Blockhead! Obviously PL cranked that shit up and made it a fantastic song, but that intro tune is straight-up sampled. 2 geniuses of electronica, PL the torchbearer of course! *switches from High School Art Class to Insomniac Olympics and back again*
Two years later, I'm listening to some Pandora and Insomniac Olympics came on, and I'm like "yo this dude totally took this from HSAC! Then I realized they both just sampled from the same song.
YOO Good ear, but these artists, Blockhead and Pretty Lights are both hip hop producers. They both sampled the same song but it is actually a track called "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me", by Karla Bonoff. Hip Hop producers are known for taking the beginning of old records, also called breaks, especially from the 70s, and then putting their own twist on it. Even though Blockhead used the sample first in 2004, Pretty Lights stilled crushed it with his sampling in 2010. Check out www.whosampled.com/Karla-Bonoff/Someone-to-Lay-Down-Beside-Me/ for a reference and if you want to learn about a whole lot of other interesting songs and where they were sampled from!
This whole album is a Masterpiece, my personal favorite is A Million Tomorrows for One Yesterday very close to this, basically a tie ,because I can identify with both on a spiritual level.
35!!! Just did Suwannee resonate and Daily Bread killed it … had to play some PL for my younger camp mates later .. I def felt old about 1 hour .25 mins into his set lol
The live shows were really where it was at, especially during a time with such heavy dubstep, PL always set himself apart from everyone else at the time, the only big time Dubstep artist at the time that was on the same level but doing something completely different at his shows was Lorin Ashton aka Bassnectar, really messed up what he was doing behind the scenes though. Bassnectar always preached safety and watching out for others but was doing really messed up stuff. I was really angry when I heard about it. Between PL and Bassnectar I saw more shows of them than any other. Big Gigantic was close, same with Griz.
I love how Leo Nocentelli’s guitar riff from Cyril Neville’s Gossip is now permanently lodged into the buildup in this song (circa 2023-2024). I had to come back here to make sure it wasn’t always there.
love love love love LOOOOOVVEEEEEEE this song!!!! Sitting at my desk at work right now bobbing my head and tapping my foot, not getting shit done because I can't stop listening to this song. It is permanently stuck in my head!
that sample used in the intro is going to drive me nuts. is it emancipator? little people? i cant think of the track name but its on the tip of my ears. added delay and some effects... sounds fresh
What are the lyrics for when he's saying something something something key, to unlock your brain and let your mind stay free. That whole stanza I can't quite tell what he's saying.
I wish I could go back in time and hear this album again for the first time. The discovery felt like a quantum leap in my mind for what music can be.
@JamieNelsonsPool welcome to the family

I used to actually listen to this in my high school art class. I hated that school but I fucking miss those times.
I was always listening to this album while throwing pottery on the wheel in Ceramics. Always inspired me to push the limits of the shapes I made.
by far the best PL song in my opinion!!! These lyrics have been stuck in my head for MONTHS!!!
Months? Try 13 years
9ish years later and this is still my main jam!
🥰🙌
Found this song today! After years of trying to get it, I'm happy to finally let you all know that I now understand the hype.
One of the dopest songs in all years of the history of the adjective dope
Yes, actually if you look up 'dope' in the Dictionary of Dope, it says "See this song".
