Michelle, thank you so much! I have been using your digital planner for 2 years and love it❤. I have been teaching for over 30 years and need to let you know how much your content here on TH-cam along with your podcast with Bridgette has helped me with my organization and time management. You are truly a gift to me. I NEVER miss an episode! Blessings to you, Billy and Ember😊
Oh my gosh Suzanne... that is the BEST compliment! Thank you so much for saying that! Also, thank you for following along with my videos and podcast... I love hearing that you enjoy them! Thank YOU for watching, commenting, and supporting my channel 🥰🖤
Thank you! I will be returning on Monday with the kiddos returning two weeks later. I am feeling less stressed after I viewed your video sharing your great ideas and suggestions for success for the first week. You continue to grow as a presenter and I am happy for your success. Your weekly videos are my personal professional development. Thanx again.
Aww, thank you for saying that Robin! I'm so happy this video was helpful for you and hopefully can help you feel less stressed as you prepare for your first week! I appreciate you watching and commenting as always 🥰🖤
I appreciate this step by step visual guidance on how to plan. I been teaching for 4 years and planning was daunting to me until today. I heard and seen how to tackle scheduling and planning. AMAZING MICHELLE!!! Grateful for you and your support. ❤Thank You ❤
Aww, thank you so much Irene! I'm happy this was helpful for you, especially with the start of the school year right around the corner! Thank you for watching and commenting to support my channel! 🥰🖤
You're so organized, professional, and informative. Thank you for sharing all of your strategies and hard work with us! Teaching is such a passion for you that you teach us teachers! I so appreciate you! Have a fabulous school year!
This is so good Michelle! The first week is the most important for the teacher because it sets the tone for the year! How you do it is so organized and simple! My fourth grade teacher was perfect in how she set up the first week, and it set the tone for my favorite year in elementary school. She built the classroom community from day one. I still stay in contact with her and some of the kids in that class!
Hey Russell! Thank you so much! I completely agree that the first week can really set the tone for the year and I'm happy you had great experiences with your fourth grade teacher and the first week of school! That's great to hear! I hope you have a fantastic week ahead!
Yay - I can finally teach you something that my students taught me! Instead of 'copy' (command c) and 'paste' (command v) you can simply 'duplicate' (command d). I know it only drops one step, but when you have to do it all the time it can add up ;-) Thank you so much for all you do - when I discovered your channel it saved my life when we went online for Covid!
Oh I know all about duplicating 😂 But thanks! It kind of depends how you're using it because sometimes copy and paste is a better option like if you're trying to paste things on different slides because it will paste it in the same location as when you copied it. Also, with this planner, copy and paste works better for text because the text boxes are already inserted. Duplicating is great within the same slide if you need new text boxes though!
Appreciate your view. Focus on the things you can control. Don’t stress over the things you can’t control. Also, I appreciate you pointing out that developing class culture starts on day one by establishing your expectations with the students. I always recommend high school teachers remain flexible. There are so many schedule changes, students will be added & dropped. Embrace the chaos 😊 Another high school tip is to make sure you get there very early. Usually it takes a week or two for the traffic to become manageable. Have a great school year! And keep being a hero!
Yes, absolutely! There will ALWAYS be things out of your control and it isn't worth stressing over. Instead, spend your time and energy focusing on the things you can control. Thank you for watching and commenting... I hope you enjoyed it! 🥰
Definitely enjoyed watching this and please do show your process of making first week of school slides. That is exactly what I’m working on right now. Thanks for the upload! 😊
Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and providing your feedback Debbie! I really appreciate it and hope you have a great first week of school! 🎉
I go back on August 23rd, and I am still working on planning for the first week! This was super helpful!! With your video on how to make a class website, your video about chatGPT and more, you have been super helpful for me this summer!!! Thank you so much!!!!
I hope you have a GREAT first week of school when you return in another week! 🎉 I'm so happy this was helpful for you along with some of my other videos! Thank YOU for watching and commenting! 🥰🖤
Michelle, thank you so much for this! I've already had two days of school at a new school and a drastically new grade level and subject area (6th-grade math to 2nd ELA) and I am strugglingggg. This video made me feel so much calmer and more prepared to go back next week and tackle my day more strategically. Been here since your 2nd grade teaching days, love your content!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting with your feedback... I'm so happy to hear that this video allowed you to feel more prepared as you go back next week! Thank you for following along and supporting my channel for so long! I appreciate it more than you know! 🥰🖤
Hi Michelle, thank you, you’re helping me get my mind around going back. I find the first week one of the hardest to plan, would love to see first week slides.
Aww, thank you for watching and commenting! Also, I appreciate you letting me know that you'd be interested in a video on first week of school slides! That's helpful for me to know 🥰
Hi Michelle - I've bee following you since last school year. I am happy to report your Portfolio suggestions along with your resume template has provided me with a long term position that I am hoping it turns to full contract soon there after :) I really enjoy watching and learning how to schedule my first week of school. It's starts Sept. 4th :)
Absolutely fantastic video, Michelle! You are helping me get energized and prepared for my first day of school on August 21. I think the order of steps you used is very clear and manageable. Sometimes the hardest part about planning the first week of school is navigating all the unknowns: new students, new schedule, fire drill and other unexpected events, etc. You have made me feel more at ease as I start to tackle my planning. Also, my favorite Office clip was Dwight 's rendition of "We Didn't Start the Fire." Hilarious! I hope you and your family are doing well. Have a wonderful week ahead! 💜
Aww, thank you so much Mandy! As always, your comment made my week! You're absolutely right that the hardest part is the unknowns and ultimately there is only so much you can do to prepare! I have a video coming next week with first day of school tips and I talk at the end about celebrating the small wins because a LOT can go wrong so it's important to recognize the food! I hope you have a GREAT first day of school in another week and I hope you and your family are doing well too 🥰🖤
While planning for secondary is much different (honestly I don’t understand how elementary teachers do it! Barely any time off during the day! I could never!) this video did give me a lot to think about and I definitely got some takeaways. The day I decide to pull the trigger and use a digital planner I’m buying this one! For now, I’m having a hard time giving up my old school paper planner! Thanks for always providing me with new and innovative ideas! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next week! For now let’s send good vibes to Maui and it’s residents! ❤
Aww, that's great to hear! I'm happy you were able to get some ideas even though you teach secondary. Also, I totally get it... switching to digital planning can be a huge transition so it's best to do it at a time when you feel ready and can learn as you go. Thanks for watching and commenting as always and I hope you have a great week ahead! Yes, what's been happening in Maui with the wildfires is absolutely tragic. Billy and I both donated to the Maui Strong fund through the Hawaii Community Foundation and wish there was a way to help in person! 🖤
Congratulations on your success! My wife and I are still so thankful for your videos during COVID. Your presentations were a lifeline! I had forgotten about your digital planner. It seems to cover all the bases! Rob
Thank you so much Rob! I'm happy my videos were able to help you during such a crazy time! I appreciate you both watching and you taking the time to comment! 🎉
First, love you and your videos! I always learn something and I love that. Second, When linking slides is there anyway to link to a specific slide number within a slide deck? I haven't found the answer yet but I'm thinking that is why you link the Table of Contents at the beginning of the slide deck to that particular day within.
Most notable observation: the minuscule amount of play time students have in a day. Aussie schools have a morning recess where students get to eat and play (play time is 20-30 minutes depending on the school). They also have time to eat lunch and play (about 40-45 minutes depending on the school). We let our kids eat about 10-15 minutes before play time starts. I can't imagine how our kids would cope with only one very short play time. They would be bouncing off the walls.
Agree. Here in Canada, when I first started, the kids would have a 15 minute recess in the morning, 20 minutes to each lunch and 20 minute recess for lunch, then 15 minute recess in the afternoon. (They could take small snacks like granola bars outside during morning and afternoon recess) Now they have switched it so that the kids have two 40 minute periods where they get to eat for 20 minutes and have recess for 20 minutes in the morning around 10am and then the afternoon 1pm.
Yes... it's definitely different in different parts of the country and world. Not all districts are the same within individual states and not all states are the same either. Typically, at least in upper elementary, my students only got 25 minutes of recess a day. But, I definitely tried to work in opportunities for movement and downtime into my regular schedule because I know most of my students benefited from that.
Are you able to do a complete walkthrough of your digital planner and the different pages and layouts, etc. I want to purchase it, however I want to see what all is inside first. I tried to get the free preview however when I entered my email, I never received the product.
Hi Rachel! We show almost all of the pages and exactly how the digital planners work in our tutorial videos which you can find here: www.teachingonthedouble.com/plannertutorials As for the free planner, if you send me an email at pocketfulofprimary@gmail.com, I can check on that for you! Usually, either your email service provider is blocking the email or sending it to spam OR you previously signed up for the freebie and are trying to sign up again but it only sends the email once so you won't get a new email. Either way, I can check on it for you if you email me! Thanks!
This is awesome fo4 primary school teachers. I'm trying to figure out how to adapt this for high school if you are a subject teacher. Which routines and procedures would you suggest subject teachers who have different classes on the space of one day focus on. Which should I leave for form aka home room teachers? What if they don't? None of this is mandatory in schools in my country and may not get done at class level.
Thanks for your feedback Karen! Since I've never taught high school, I might not be the best person to ask for this. Honestly, it sounds like you should probably talk to the other teachers to know what procedures you plan to cover in homeroom vs subject classes. But, it's always better to be safe than sorry so you may need to double up and teach certain procedures in your subject classes even if they are getting taught in homeroom... doesn't hurt to cover your bases!
I'm thinking about trying an online planner. I teach high school and trying to save paper. But it's so scary! Thank you! Also, which curser app do you use? Is it a Chrome extension?
Change can definitely be scary but keep in mind that your paper planner will always be there if you decide to go back 😉 I'm not using any special cursor... just the standard one with my computer!
