Ok guys a bit of a different competition vlog today! A showjumping competition vlog! Shall I quit eventing with Max and just showjump? That is the question and it is still unanswered! Max is an epic showjumper and that is definitely his best discipline so we decide to give showjumping a go and see how we do!
Hope you guys enjoy the video! Thank you so much for all your support as we couldn’t do any of this without all of you!

Ashley, I love watching you and the boys. Your videos are always fun to watch. You could not have better supporters than Scott, Mom and Dad. I am always cheering you on, as well!! I just loved the slow motion; very different and it showed off your great riding skills and it also showed the beautiful jumping of Kato and Max.

Very entertaining vlog. Pity they don't have 2 day events with just the show jumping and XC given that both horses like doing them. Eventers always have trouble with the dressage, it is such as specialist skill. The prize money is very miserable considering how much you have to pay to enter. Once again Ashley you are very brave and competent. Lovely to have all your family participating in your endeavours. My own horse riding was mainly something I did alone.

I have a horse that wasn't picking up infront when showjumping so I took the boots off so when she touches them she actually feels it and she is 100x better now. Highly recommend taking the boots off so they feel the taps and want to get their legs up

Hello everybody. Thanks so much for taking us along with you again! Very decent of you!!!! A ding from Ashley Harrison Eventing brightens my day! Love watching Max and Kato do their thing -- great job today -- and love watching you ride, Ashley. I get a charge out of the lively banter between family members -- love the 'horse talk' and 'dog talk' captions. Whoever selects the music -- kudos to you!!!! One question -- and I'll apologize in advance if this info has been given already in a previous video -- but -- are we ever going to see Zeb in the XC again? (I watched the video about the surgery to remove his bone chip. Hope he is doing well.) In today's video - I thought I heard Zeb referenced in the past tense. There's something 'V special' [lol -- love the 'V's'] about watching Zeb. I miss seeing his magnificent movement over fences. Best regards to all from across the pond -- east coast USA. JV

Wow, on that 1st round, when you kicked Max into high gear after #6, he took off like a shot! You could just see him loving the opportunity to go all out, thinking "OK, finally, we go steeplechase!" Both boys looked super & fit, you seemed so confident, & everyone, including your entourage, seemed to be having a lot of fun. Too bad about the one pole each round, better luck next time, eh? Horses gobbled up those treats like they hadn't eaten for weeks, I'd have been tempted to try one myself! Thanks for a fun vlog! Kiss Zeb for me, but avoid getting bitten!

Good job on both horses! Here in the US, we have several different types of show jumping classes. The most common type is doing a first round, where you have to finish the course within the time allowed, but you’re not trying to get the fastest time. At the end of the first round, you stop. Then, if you’ve gone clear in the first round, you move on to the jump off, which is a shortened course and you ride to get the fastest time with no rails down. That’s the most common type, and it’s my favorite. Then we have the type you did in this video, but it’s called Power and Speed here in the US. It’s the same here as what you did, except here, if you don’t go clear during the Power phase, you don’t move on to the Speed phase (basically this is just like doing a first round and then a jump off round, but without stopping between the two courses). I noticed that you moved on to the Speed round, even though you had a rail during the Power phase. Here in the US, if you pull a rail during the Power phase (or have any other faults, such as a refusal), you do NOT keep going for the Speed part. You just stop after the Power phase and exit the arena. I was surprised to see you continue on into the Speed round, bc that’s not how we do it here. In the US, if you’d had that rail down during the Power phase, you wouldn’t have been eligible to continue on with the Speed phase. Interesting difference! The other format of show jumping we have in the US is just a speed round. There is only one course, and whoever gets around the course the fastest with no faults wins. That’s the most simple one, as you only have one course to remember. 😂 But I like the classic jumper class type of first round and then a separate jump off round. At some shows, you do your jump off immediately after you’ve finished the first round clear. At other shows, you have to come back later to do your jump off round with all the other competitors who had clear first rounds. I MUCH prefer to do the jump off immediately after my first round, while my adrenaline is pumping. But I’m not a fan of Power and Speed classes, since there is no break between first round and jump off round. I much prefer having the short break in between the two rounds to collect myself, catch a quick breath, and then proceed to the jump off as soon as they sound the buzzer. For me, I also find it easier to remember the first round course and the jump off course separately. When they are combined into one long Power and Speed course, I have more trouble remembering where I’m going. Which makes NO sense, bc the only difference in the two is that there is no break between the two rounds! lol. Also, I noticed that your Speed round was just part of the same course, just jumps you hadn’t jumped yet. Here in the US the speed round uses some of the jumps that were already jumped in the first round, so it’s much more confusing! You usually encounter several jumps with two numbers on them, bc at least several jumps from the Power round are used again in the Speed phase. Same as if you were doing a first round, then stopping before progressing to the jump off round. The jump off round uses fences from your first round, just fewer of them, and in a different order. For example, a jump off might be jump 1, jump 3, jump 5a&b, jump 2, and finish on jump 9, all from the original course. So it’s MUCH more confusing than the rounds you did here. I’d prefer the Speed phase to just be a continuation of the original course, i.e. jumps that you haven’t jumped already. That way you don’t end up having to remember that jump 3 is also jump 11, for example. (Yes, they are numbered, but when you’re speeding around a course, you don’t have time to just look around for the next numbered jump. You have to have the whole course memorized, including where you are going to make cuts and where you can get away with jumping on an angle. It’s a LOT to memorize, especially when you are competing in multiple classes in multiple formats. Ugh. For example, if you’re doing the 1.15 m division, you might have a regular first round then separate jump off class AND a Power and Speed class on the same day, with course changes in between. So there is a LOT more to memorize. Which is getting harder for me as I get older. Also the jump off course is always super twisty and much more technical and difficult, and you have to make seriously sharp turns, jump some jumps on an angle, and sometimes even eliminate a stride down a related line in order to be the fastest. It’s definitely crazy. LOTS of memorization and LOTS of adrenaline!
