omg mom im on TV :D Thank you so much this was really helpful. Even after watching back the replay i missed a lot of the mistakes you pointed out. With the benefit of hindsight and your analysis a lot of this became painfully obvious though, so i'll do my best to think more about these things at the start of the game and use the cringe i feel watching my own gameplay to create a learning moment for myself. ^^
Good Luck Have fun bro~ After watching Zach's videos for years, i've climbed from Herald to Legend V (now around 3700 MMR). BTW, sometimes I do a lot of things just like you~ wasting plenty of time harassing the Vanguard offlaner. Lets improve together😄
These continue to be incredibly useful because I never think about the game like this. It's a good reminder to try to look at the game differently. Thanks!
I always check my enemys items because in my trash rank there is a big chance they have no regen at all except mangos and its real easy to either make them hug their tower or just kill them. Its even easier nowdays when you can just check by clicking the portraits
Hi! Recent watcher, love your stuff. Your videos make me think about aspects of the game that normally would never even cross my mind. I love your focus on macro play and how you cover big concepts that are easy to implement into games. Match ID: 7293736977 Ancient 4, I'm playing Dazzle (5) on dire. I was able to make good use of my matchup knowledge against Axe to punish him hard in lane for picking a hero he was unfamiliar with to counter me. My carry had a 500 networth lead over the Axe by minute 8, and his item timings were significantly delayed due to multiple deaths and a feeding support. But botlane completely abandoned the lane against Sven, letting him freefarm. He was able to get a massive networth lead over our Bloodseeker, and my team was more than content to just sit and farm and continually run to defend our safelane T1 instead of trying to slow down the Sven who was left alone until he completed 2 and a half items. We had almost no tower damage all game, the only thing we were able to take in the early game was the mid tier one and I had to fight my teammates to even get them to come take it- and even then our pos 4 ran in and suicided for no reason afterwards. In the mid to late game my bloodseeker kept getting caught in the stupidest spots imaginable, in places where he not only shouldn't be because they were unsafe but also because there wasn't even any farm there, usually close to the river. He was repeatedly jumped and killed in places where our team could not help him. That did not stop our team from trying to help him, though. Every time bloodseeker got caught out of position, dawnbreaker would ult and spirit breaker would charge in. Thus, dying 1 by 1 and leaving me and OD to play 2v5. In retrospect, I don't like my item build much. I picked up an early bracer since we were winning lane and it ended up delaying my solar crest quite a bit. Then I built a Halbard, but since I was in the back for every fight I did not have many opportunities to use it. I got a ghost scepter next but it was too little too late. I'm curious to know what items you would've suggested here. I thought about Glimmer but I don't like picking up a Glimmer versus Axe, and I don't like force against Sven. It just feels bad to look at the end screen and see that I saved multiple lives with grave, won the mvp nomination for my team, and feel like I did what I needed to do. This happens way more frequently than it should for it to be random chance, I'm clearly doing something big wrong but I don't know what it is.
Hey Z! Question about the laning stage we see here. 4:50 How would you recommend harassing the underlord here? Standing on the left side of the wave i get that, but with venge's short attack range you'll likely pull a lot of creep aggro when you wouldnt want to. Is it best to right click, stun, right click, then back off? Or another pattern?
you can A-click underlord when ur not near creeps and u wont pull aggro, but hit him instead. Also pulling agro isnt end of the world, you can A-click pull creeps to your ranged to keep equilibrium steady. Also this game vs underlord id recommend solar crest
good video. im a little confused why if your carry is getting dove under tower by underlord, by going back to top lane to help is that still a bad play cos it wont convert to a kill? Or is that just WR's job to identify the bad matchup and go jungle or something? carrys will flame me for "leaving them" when me being there is futile but they like you being there so they have less chance of getting dove. Hope this makes sense
Technically there was a reason they TPd mid after the losing the runes, it's a fear of team mates flaming. Showing up late is conditioned, it's like a show of support or subservience even tho everyone knows it's useless. Same as going into a fight late to die. Our own toxic community has caused people to play scared, and play worse.
You can just mute them if they start throwing tantrums. Also there is good reason to not TP mid, you have no mana and smoke. You will just end up stealing mid exp. Maybe you are just not good at communicating.
@@aiskrimgoreng yes totally agree, there are always good reasons not to respond to an emotional persons demands cus they're having a bad lane, and we should think more critically about our decision making in game if we want to win. My point is more that sometimes we find ourselves doing things out of worry for how people perceive them, rather than making the best decisions for ourselves. Often we don't even know we're doing this :)
I got some friends who plays support that really needs to watch this video. I'm just expecting them to get buthurt and offended if I send it to them 😅 "Bro it's just a game I just play to have fun"
Match ID- 7290669170 I was playing Crystal Maiden, along with two other friends of mine on party and i would like to believe we kinda had a good start on the lane and maybe mid game as well except for the fact that we had a viper pos3 who was terrible. Kinda kept dying, had zero communications with the team, probably went mid viper build for which we had to get our pos4 DW build offlane aura items sadly. Although with everything considered at one point we almost won but there was a time in game near enemy top t3 barracks we lost a fight and things went downhill (thats what i feel like). i also think our void was bad but he did get a couple good chronos off. Also i had some internet issues i had to DC and was afk for a bit near the end. Ofcourse we lost the match but i would love to hear what you have to say about this game will really help me improve my gameplay. PS. Stuck at Archon send HELP! Thank you!
Match id: 7290369789 I'm the gyro, and even though we stomped the lane and I had a a great start, this game just felt so hard. Post laning stage I kept finding no space to farm and dying. When we started grouping, we were losing teamfight after teamfight and I honestly don't know how we could have won this game. Would really appreciate if you could offer some insight. Because i do feel i need some improvement for the midgame.
without looking at ur game (because i do these same mistakes) u probably didnt buy ur own wards to set up vision for farm and tried to fight without finishing a critical item
Match ID 7289594728 I'm Jakiro position 5, Undying was shaming me for using skills on creeps the entire game and my carry Sven (My friend) was saying i wasnt using skills on enemies early game... I did way more damage than undy so idk what they were talking about, really confused if i was doing something wrong.. At 20min my friend wanted to siege them 5v5 and everyone else wanted to play late game for some reason, enemy had 4 carryes lol
I thought this series was supposed to be for people who are wondering whether they or their team is more to blame, not just general coaching. Still a good video though.
If we apply that advice, I would instantly peg WR for not attacking a melee hero in cs range when rubick (enemy p4) isn't even showing on lane. WR is a universal hero now, underlord should be crying even if venge dances with rubick on the sidelines. This lane is on WR. "WFIIA? = WR."

Getting hit with the Asian dad inspiration from the get-go, I see.
Love these videos. So helpful and it's pretty awesome how much impact the first few minutes can have, especially as spell casting support.

The best series about dota out there
