I was just like you where I didn’t care for NB’s but right before Teddy Santis drops I have been collecting NB’s for it’s upscale materials and comfort. And I have to say that the collab with Action Bronson’s Baklava’s are one of the best, one of my top 5 shoes of the year.
These are clean. But nothing beats the originals. 997 made in usa, if you get a chance you should give em a spin. They are hard to come by for a good price, but the quality, comfort & esthetic is worlds beyond other models imo. Great review 👏🏼
Man I love new balance but the sizing difference in each shoe model is crazy. I just got these 997r's and 8.5 is kinda tight but my 997s's 8.5 give me plenty of room. It makes me hesitant to buy online without first going to try on my self
Funny how these over-hyped money-grabs end up in the bargain bin before you know it. I can get this model (different colorways) at Joe's NBO for a little over $50 with stacked discounts. It shows how over-valued things can be just because marketers/influencers give them air time. I'll go with what looks good to me and feels comfy, with the added satisfaction of paying much less for them by waiting while I enjoy what I have. I'd rather own a variety of quality clearance shoes than few hyped ones at retail or higher.
Other then them being 'snug'. Do they poke your feet anywhere? Update. I got these and yes i agree with everything you said about fit and comfort, they are snug, super planted and supportive. One of my goto beaters. Great shoe at a great price.
Yeah! This new article will be making 997 line up great again. After the OG one, not really like about the 997H. But this 997R is really awsome. Those shape on faiyaahhh 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Some media outlets and retail stores that sell them were stating ENCAP. But you're right that might be wrong, difficult to find a definitive answer. There's not a lot of information on this still and still hasn't released in the United States.
Finally a review on this shoe. Thinking of getting this colourway. Thanks for the review. I was more focused on the comfort and I have my answer.

How do they compare to something like a Chuck Taylor in terms of snugness?

Somehow the 997H & 997S looked better to me.
This pair doesnt look symmetrical 5:38
the creme colored soles look so ugly on the 997R especially near the heel, they should have made the sole look less prominent.
