Hi, Nikolaj. I enjoyed your review of "Marnie" and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I thought there were good things about "Marnie," but I also thought there were some serious problems. Overall, I consider it a flawed film that could have been a lot better. I haven't seen it in a long time, so I don't remember too many details. (I saw it in the theater when it was released in 1964, and at least one other time since then, but still many years ago.) What I do remember is that I did not like Sean Connery's character. I thought he was a real jerk, blackmailing Marnie into marrying him and then raping her (implied, offscreen). But it also seemed to me that he was supposed to be viewed as a "good guy." I also thought that Tippi Hedren's performance was uneven. She is a lovely woman, and I thought she was fine in "The Birds" and did a good job. But I felt that her role in "Marnie" really needed someone with more range as an actor. I liked Diane Baker a lot in this film. (I always like her.) I bet she would have been very good as Marnie. I am open to watching "Marnie" again sometime, and if I do, maybe I will appreciate it more than the way I remember it.

Thanks Julie! Yes, we are on the same page on this. I do think Tippi Hedren and Sean Connery has some great scenes together, but the films just dosnt know completely what to do with them. Can I ask you - when did your love for watching movies starts? 🙂

@@thefilmclassic4210 I was about six or seven years old when I started going to movies fairly often. This was in the early 1950s. I always loved going regardless of what movie was showing. I was the third of six children in our family. My dad would take the "older" kids to the movies to get them out of the house for a while to help give my mom a break. At first, he just took my two older sisters (who are 3-1/2 and 5-1/2 years older than I am). I was so delighted when the time came that he started including me as one of the "older" kids too. The movies we went to weren't children's movies, although most of them were suitable enough for kids. We just went to whatever was showing at a nearby neighborhood theater, even if it had a somewhat adult theme. Besides loving the movies in their own right, it always was a special occasion for me to go out with my dad and older sisters. To this day, I remember certain movies as ones that I saw with my father, and that memory adds sentimental value to how I feel about the film.

@@julieborel3043 Oh that is such a sweet story. I am very happy you wanted to share that. I understand you completely that this films did make an impression on you, especially because you dad had an influence on you. It is this types of memories in live that last forever and I would imagine you being sentimental about some of this old films. For me it is only a joy to read. I am happy your dad took you to the movies because you share a lot of love for some of the same movies that I love, and it is always nice to read your comments! And by the way I remember you were writing you were going to travel this month. So I wish you a very nice trip!

@@thefilmclassic4210 Thanks for your kind words and good wishes. Yes, I will be visiting various national and state parks in Utah soon, as well as Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon in Arizona. I am very excited about this upcoming adventure! Then shortly after I get home from that trip, I will be traveling to North Carolina and Georgia for some family-related activities.
