In my sophomore year of college almost everyday , I would see two guys sitting on opposite sides of the cafeteria cuss each other out in sign language.
It's really impressive how well the animators get across character traits with sign language, like Oushi's signs being so sharp and harsh. It's a really good use of body language
In sign language you aren't simply reading/watching the signs, you focus on the signers face. How someone gestures with their face and body is what helps you understand if they are saying: Who's your friend?😊 Who's your friend?😍 Who's your friend?🤨
"You learned sign language to be inclusive towards those with disabilities, I learned sign language to insult the deaf community, we are not the same."
Yes? Pretty common in genres like seinen, actually. Stuff like shounen is aimed at young kids, so of course the protagonists also tend to be on the younger side
The major thing I noticed between oushi and itsuomi is oushi is always trying to make her world smaller and itsumomi wants to bring her world into his making it bigger. There are a lot of people like oushi, who, no matter how much they care about someone with disabilities, the disability is what they see first. He may like her, and he made the effort to learn sign, but he sees her meeting challenges in life and wants to put her back in the safe box.
yep, he cares about her but he doesn’t know how to do it right n constantly plays her disability for the thing that’ll ruin her life (it would ruin her life if she was afraid of everything like oushi wants)
My take is that instead of him wanting to keep her down, he's still a little boy inside who doesn't know how to express how he feels to the girl he likes, so he defaults to being mean. Doesn't make the results for him any better, but it's frustratingly understandable - he's still got some growing up to do emotionally.

@@zoraackerman1684I recommend trying to find people to learn from in person. There's a ton of subtext and accents that are best picked up face to face. A lot of colleges and universities have a class, and a lot of clubs or communities are willing to teach anyone interested, just googling "learn ASL [city]" could get you a lead to follow. If you want to try to learn a language online, more power to ya, but making friends helps so much.
@@zoraackerman1684 Honestly? You can learn ASL online if you want to, but in-person is 100x better. I recommend taking up an asl 1 course online and then proceed from there if you really want it to be online. If you just want to learn the language for free, then you will have flaws in your signing because you'll just be watching youtube videos, since I dont think there are any available free courses for ASL at the moment. Most of those flaws can be rectified if you attend deaf community events where they can correct your signing. So if you just want a free way of learning, you can start with searching for videos of the alphabet, grammar, rules, W-WH-WHE-WHO-H videos. Then learn vocabulary and talk to actual deaf people. Of course, I still think you should take an in-person class or an online course if you really want it to be online, but this is what I recommend to learn ASL online and for free.
Oushi never stood a chance not just cuz he was the childhood friend. He treated yuki like she was fragile and needs to be with people of 'her kind' and stay there. Itsumi wants yuki to grow and expand her horizons and grow with him.
@@ImTheTrueHealer Might be a case of language. In my country we don't refer to university (college) as "school." "School" here only refers to high school and below.

@Mr.WestcottX If he did it expecting her to like him, then sorry he is not a good friend. You do that cause you want your friend to be heard and included not expecting something back
Except they're not friends and they never were. At no point did Yuki ever acknowledge him as a friend, that's just how he perceives their 'relationship' because he's a moron.
Eh, I have to disagree. As a deaf person myself I have something to say about this Oushi actually strikes me as a person who doesn't treat her like a delicate princess for her disability, but rather as he would with any other friends. He treats her like a person. Itsoumi Seems like he's just fascinated by her disability and by how "cute" she is. Just because he learned sign language for her doesn't mean he doesn't see her as an object similar to a fish in a fish tank. But ultimately, I know the show will make you believe Itsoumi is the one for her so already I can forsee my personal issues with this.
Ouishi literally tells her all the time what she should and shouldn't do. If he likes her he should just say so and not wait around and then get jealous when someone else is interested in her. And just because Itsoumi is nice to her and thinks she is cute doesn't mean he doesn't see her as a person. Yes he is fascinated by her but she is also fascinated by him. There is no instance where Itsoumi treats her like an object. He is just very kind and respectful and that has nothing to do with her "being a delicate flower" or him seeing her as one.
I wanna give a shout-out to anyone on here who is deaf, I forget we can communicate digitally but I forget not all of us can speak. Shoutout to people with disabilities
It surprises me how many people prefer him as the male lead. He was abit of a bully and kept sticking his nose into her business. He honestly kind of annoyed me. I get that he cares for her but she doesn't belong to him and if he wanted to be more than childhood friends he had plently of time to tell her. Did he think no one else would ever be interested in her and she would just wait around for him?
the character hits my heart sometime, the line "now i remembered, why I have learned sign language" describes the pain of losing a person, the scene tells a story,a feeling that is really far beyond from being described!
He's not a bad guy and cares more about her then anyone else. He's jst bad in showing it. I mean, he took the effort to learn sign language. What most of you moralist people would never do.
Those in the comments trying to defend him or say he's the better pick: He is not overprotective he is just ableist and if you've ever experienced ableist you'd know. He also learned sign from his sister unlike Itsuomi who is trying with Yuki, the first thing he learned in sign was idiot so he could make fun of her, and he never showed any interest until Itsuomi came along
Ya know, this is the first time I've thought about how people can tell how you're feeling from the way you sign! Just like you could with someone's voice. It makes sense that you could notice things about people by how they sign, I just hadn't thought about it before. Very cool!
I like this character because he's here to show that she didn't fall for someone just because they learnt sign language for her Sadly in most romance with disabilities, the love interest is the only person adapting to the main character's disability and it sounds kinda like they had no other choice ykwim
A close friend of mine has a deaf sister. I liked her because she wasn't afraid to be herself, and I wanted to learn sign language to communicate with her. However, the more I got to know her, with the help of my friend ofc, those feelings disappeared and were replaced with a small...uncomfortably between us. Our mothers, who are super close friends, tried to get us to start over cause there was some issues between us, so we began writting letters to each other. Then, one day she just stopped out of nowhere, but I kept sending letters once a week, or so. About a month later, I gave up on giving leters with no response. Currently, we dont even interact with each other, but we hang out with each other's family. Its animes like this one that really made me question where I went wrong in trying to built the friendship between us, or if I had done something to her to make her not like me.
"Its animes like this one that really made me question where I went wrong" Not your fault you were the childhood friend and not the MC, your fate was sealed.
"why the heck did you have to come to college?" It's obvious Oushi has some issues that i hope will be addressed in later chapters because this is really icky
So what you missed: deaf hard of hearing are generally really good at reading body language Especially if they know someone. Thats why she's like his fingertips are weak, is he worried for me? Pretty neat huh?
I'm tired of yall mentality that just because a guy crush on the heroine she owe him to fall in love with him. She doesn't like him and doesn't have to.
The fact there's an anime capitalizing on sign language... I find it intriguing. Of course there's "Silent Voice", but seeing this is just interesting to me.
Fun fact about sign language: there's no universal language for sign language. For example: US, Canada, and Japan all have different versions. I wouldn't be surprised if every country has a different sign language to be perfectly honest.
gotta admit, the anime shows him in a much worse light. He's not so bad to her - he also has a crush on her and now is angry that this tall, handsome man has taken an interest in her . I think he took it for granted that she would go out with him eventually and got a shock when another man showed interest. He is of course, jealous and suspicious

This one was a hard pass for me. The show treats the MC like she’s eight years old. Just because she’s deaf doesn’t mean she’s a child. This concept could’ve totally worked. You could’ve had a mature show with two vastly different adults learning to communicate, open up, and trust each other so they can be in a healthy relationship. Instead the MC nearly passes out every time the boyfriend holds her hand and barely knows what a date is (despite living in a major city and being exposed to media)

Whoever animated this must’ve mastered hands by now
Random kind-of unrelated fact:
In the lore of fantasy game Warhammer, Queek Headtaker learned Dwarven language just so he can swear at them
Nice-good reference, yes yes!
An anime that’s not about high school kids?? Finally
@@ImTheTrueHealer they are in college
@@ImTheTrueHealer Might be a case of language. In my country we don't refer to university (college) as "school." "School" here only refers to high school and below.
@@ImTheTrueHealer Uhm alright. Have a nice day?
You must not watch that much anime if this surprises you.
Fun fact: he shares the same VA as Jinshi from the Apothecary Diaries
And Aqua from Oshi no Ko
What is VA?

I know american sign language and its so fascinating to see japanese sign language, some sign are so different, while some are exactly the same
0:55 hands are not easy
Give a raise to whoever made the title 🤣he is ableist af... Glad she's kind and has other people who are kind to her...
At least she understood how he was talking thru sign instead of taking him fully literal
I need more episodes 😭 I cant even start to watch it yet. Its looks like such a good anime.
If I only I knew the name I would set it as "to watch later" lol. I can't bear starting an anime and not being able to binge it all the way 😂
it's probably "A sign of affection" though, isn't it 😅
They could never make me like you, oushki
My bud and I learned basic signs to cheat on our test in class back in like 6th grade because our teacher seperated us for talking to much. When she finally noticed she made one of us sit outside the class for the last few weeks of the year lol
Bro needs to learn to communicate his feelings smh. He’s the childhood friend it literally cant get any worse than that
For real. All that effort to learn Japanese sign language.
It can if he treats her like she is an idiot just cause she is deaf.
@@samcooper2474 he is not a moron. are you stupid or something
People who want these two together, it comes across as an insult because Yuki deserves better 💀
He's my favorite but yeah she's not into him and it's weird to think there's people who ship them. Feel bad for him tho lol
@@oleksandrsvyrepov9745 Hey pal, you may wanna raise your expectations a bit more than "doesn't see her as an object"
@oleksandrsvyrepov9745 so you mean to say you want someone to dictate wjo you can have in your life and who you cant where you will go and everything
looks like a wholesome show...
Like Ice Guy and Cool Colleague
I like that anime more than this one. It deserves a Season 2
@@DemaadI second that
@@Demaad I like both very much, but I agree. I want more
Your pfp made me think I had something on my screen XD
Both are very nice chill, calm and beautiful very nice slice of life romance!☺️ I also love both shows!!
I wanna give a shout-out to anyone on here who is deaf, I forget we can communicate digitally but I forget not all of us can speak. Shoutout to people with disabilities
These animes are alwyas in a neverending winter
It surprises me how many people prefer him as the male lead. He was abit of a bully and kept sticking his nose into her business. He honestly kind of annoyed me. I get that he cares for her but she doesn't belong to him and if he wanted to be more than childhood friends he had plently of time to tell her. Did he think no one else would ever be interested in her and she would just wait around for him?
the character hits my heart sometime, the line "now i remembered, why I have learned sign language" describes the pain of losing a person, the scene tells a story,a feeling that is really far beyond from being described!
Definitely having this on my watch list. Loved A Silent Voice this seems similar.
It's basically A Silent Voice but a lot less depressing.
Yeah I would love to see some more disability anime’s like a blind girl would be so cute
A silent voice is my favorite anime film. This caught my attention immediately
@@YounganMar3921I’m shocked he haven’t gotten that yet. I know there are blind characters, but not in slice of life.

Time to hit the gym, bro. Gotta put some gains on those fingers.
so glad she didn't end up with this man child.
Thank god he's the childhood friend. Being a tsundere isn't an excuse to be this horrible to her.
He’s actually a decent guy, not meant for her but he’s a good friend once you get to know him!

Always hated how the tsundere girl would win in romance anime. **coughToradoracough** and **coughYourLieInAprilcough** among so many others

He's not a bad guy and cares more about her then anyone else. He's jst bad in showing it. I mean, he took the effort to learn sign language. What most of you moralist people would never do.
Those in the comments trying to defend him or say he's the better pick:
He is not overprotective he is just ableist and if you've ever experienced ableist you'd know. He also learned sign from his sister unlike Itsuomi who is trying with Yuki, the first thing he learned in sign was idiot so he could make fun of her, and he never showed any interest until Itsuomi came along
Ableist. Learning new words everyday.
making new words up every day fr fr@@alexanderjackson7815
Nothing like romance media, people dragging fictional characters through the mud to try to show their own opinion as the objectively right one.
Thats wild dude
First of all: based
Second of all: based
Ya know, this is the first time I've thought about how people can tell how you're feeling from the way you sign! Just like you could with someone's voice. It makes sense that you could notice things about people by how they sign, I just hadn't thought about it before. Very cool!
Men, real women dont find it cute, we just find you a creep 🥰
Being mean isnt a show of affection
Seeing a name take place in a college is so nice, it’s a shame it’s so rare
It's probably why this anime is high on my list
As an artist this must have been a nightmare to make…..hands…an artist worst enemy.😂 Major respect for this anime.
Skill issue
*having a beef in sign language
* angry gesturing *
He might love her but he is using sign language to bring her down and that’s why she fell in love with Itsomi.
the art style in this anime is so pretty
* me popping my domain before he uses his *
Damn I stopped 10 seconds into the youtube clip to not spoil myself. The initial dead pan expression already sold me on the anime :D
I like this character because he's here to show that she didn't fall for someone just because they learnt sign language for her
Sadly in most romance with disabilities, the love interest is the only person adapting to the main character's disability and it sounds kinda like they had no other choice ykwim
Why is nearly everyone in this anime so freakin Gorgeous?!
As someone who has watched 'A Silent Voice', I now need to go watch this.☺️
This is a silent voices Shouko if he chose violence still after elementary
This is what I thought of, too.
"Its animes like this one that really made me question where I went wrong"
Not your fault you were the childhood friend and not the MC, your fate was sealed.
@@colin8696908 Meh, that's life. Everyone is the mc in their own life, while they are also side characters in other people's lives.🤷
Maybe you two just didn't click and that's all. It's sad but it happens all the time while meeting someone new.

I was born for this. More emotional anime’s about something less talked about! Here for it!!
The title lol get him CR!
Bro learnt a whole new language just so he could insult someone and they could understand it. Gotta respect the grind
"why the heck did you have to come to college?"
It's obvious Oushi has some issues that i hope will be addressed in later chapters because this is really icky
So what you missed: deaf hard of hearing are generally really good at reading body language
Especially if they know someone. Thats why she's like his fingertips are weak, is he worried for me?
Pretty neat huh?
I love the animation style
This is so wholesome. I like romantic animés like this. It's so hearty and fulfilling!
Indeed. On Saturdays.
I'm tired of yall mentality that just because a guy crush on the heroine she owe him to fall in love with him. She doesn't like him and doesn't have to.
I heard a spoiler she gets with someone better but idk
The fact there's an anime capitalizing on sign language... I find it intriguing. Of course there's "Silent Voice", but seeing this is just interesting to me.
How can i say this… DEI done right for once, and its not even western media. Bless anime!
There's a def character in Gangsta too.
@@virtualmilkers1747I almost forgot about that guy. Nicholas.
Honestly, this is the cutest thing ive seen today.
That makes 2 of us 🤝
That’s some dedication. I admire that.
If someone went through the entire trouble of learning something new and difficult just to insult me, I would honestly feel very treasured.
“Why the heck did you have to come to college”
Why the heck do you have to be alive, Oushi?!
I love seeing that there's a show with sign language in it.
THEY MADE THIS AN ANIME???? how did I miss it
Fun fact about sign language: there's no universal language for sign language. For example: US, Canada, and Japan all have different versions. I wouldn't be surprised if every country has a different sign language to be perfectly honest.
I knew I was here at one point.
Another sign he's giving is being a red flag
AWWW!!! More JSL! I loved the JSL In Gangsta! ❤❤
gotta admit, the anime shows him in a much worse light.
He's not so bad to her - he also has a crush on her and now is angry that this tall, handsome man has taken an interest in her . I think he took it for granted that she would go out with him eventually and got a shock when another man showed interest. He is of course, jealous and suspicious
How is jealous and suspicious ANY better than straight up mean, please explain that to me
Did anyone else watch the show Switched At Birth? I loved that show and this gives me those vibes. Makes me so happy.
the evil version of a silent voice
yes
This guy is really into this girl.
Look at the way he looks at her.
This should be interesting😁
Bro is inclusively ableist
I don't even watch this anime but i keep coming back to this clip. Lord the animations' so SMOOTH--
He is fine, but Itsuomi is better for her 💖 especially after reading newest chapters, and Yuki deserves the best
Yeh that toxic possesive gojo dude

I'm calling it now that he likes her deep down, made all the effort to learn sigh language but was too stupid be around her with her deaf ears.
For real.
It would be okay if he was only a dumb guy, he is rude so it is worse...
I can't imagine being this cruel to a deaf person
Just started watching this anime bc of how similar it looked to a silent voice and it is soooo cute I cannot wait until the next episode!!!
The title😂 >>>>>
I- this gives me a silent voice vibes (not a bad thing just an observation) i really like that they animated the hand signs sm though tbh
Love these videos😊😊😊❤❤
This is very wholesome with having SL in anime.
