I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother and I understand the difficulty continuing the things that connected you to them after they pass. My grandmother was an avid gardener and it was something that connected us in the last years of her life. I wanted you to know that your videos helped me keep gardening after her passing, which in turn helped me mourn her. Thank you for all you do and helping us all make our lives a little brighter and greener.
I find the 36 hour cold/moist stratification very effective as well. I get a very high germination rate from it. I place my seeds in a moist paper towel (that I wet under the sink & squeezed out the excess moisture). Put it in a ziplock and leave in the fridge for 36hrs. Then I plant them. I find it’s worked on everything I’ve tried, columbine, lavender, rosemary, etc.
So sorry for your loss, I am sure both were very proud how their little girl took the garden to another level. Trying some rosemary in the cold frame this year, one thing for sure its been pretty cold, lol. Stay Well !!! God Bless!
As usual this video was timely! I was trying to stratify red bee balm but I was doing it wrong after seeing this. I've tried lavender but never sprouted but now I see why i think
Oh my gosh, I absolutey LOVE your videos! You are such a smart and intuitive plant person! I am a master gardener and you keep giving us such EXCELLENT content! Thank you so much.
My deepest condolences & big virtual hugs for your loss; you’re honouring them in a heart-felt way🤗💕🇨🇦 Thanks for sharing this; I have a few herbs I want to try this with. I currently have elderberry cuttings in my fridge to try rooting them. Blessings to all 🤗💗
I did this with a hazelnut this year and i didn't do it for very long but took it out at Christmas and its about two inches tall in the window already and not looking leggy 😁 very happy! My biggest "seed" start to date. (Yes i know its a nut lol) I'll be potting it on and hardening off as soon as the frosts have passed.
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom and Grandma. I never know the right words to say but I hope over time that the memories you have will bring you comfort in the years to come. Take care. I sometimes stratify my seeds by taking my pots outside and bring them back inside sometimes more than once depending on the weather conditions and the seeds. I successfully germinated lavender and rosemary in bottles last year using this method. I think nearly every seed germinated.
I've got some raspberry and blackberry seeds in my fridge right now in some 3" pots with some damp soil in them. I scarified half of them, and left the other half alone. I completely wrapped up each pot in plastic wrap so nothing interesting starts growing in the fridge (outside the pot), and to keep the moisture in place. I honestly don't know what's going to happen. Either they'll germinate eventually, the pots will go completely moldy and I'll chuck the whole experiment. Who knows.
Maybe animal dispersed seeds that come from fruits need to be more moist (since they tend to sprout out of poop)? And wind dispersed seeds (ex lettuce) need more light exposure and to be on a moist surface (rather than buried)?

But I didn't use a light. Just put it in soil, watered and placed in the fridge.
Oh interesting!
Big hugs. And thank you for the video(s).
You are so welcome!
Ok, giving passion flower one more chance. I’ve tried two years and nothing. I even scratched up the shell with a finger nail file. Doing your method.
report back!

Interesting trick. I am going to try this on the salmonberry and cloudberry seeds I found, I could use all the help with those 🤣

Nice info! Thanks! 😊
I would love to see the comparison of seeds under stratification VS seeds that are not! 😋

Do you think this would this work well with carrot seeds? They like the cool and teallybdry out easily. Maybe a week in the fridge before planting?
What garden seeds need to be cold stratified? I missed something somewhere.
I’ve been lucky because my lavender and rosemary has germinated with me doing everything wrong!

Can I just put the bag in my cold frame
That would work!
