Honestly the part that makes me believe the "witch woman was killed by men in the woods and is now protecting the main character"-theory is that she was able to type all of that out without anything happening to her. If the witch wanted her dead she would not wait for her to write down the whole story while crouched behind a car. Seems to me that she was 'escorting' the protagonist, making sure she got out of the woods safe (by ghost standards)
spoilers - in the actual video game the witch leads some of the main characters to safety/weapons as well as letting the player see different versions of the future to help them make better choices. she's not by any means benevolent but she wants most of the characters to stay alive and human so that they can be of use to her. i feel like her saying "Not Again" (which is kind of similar to stuff she says in the game) she's trying to scare the characters off so that the things in the woods don't attack them again. So yeah i think she stayed with the girl because the boys kept going off on their own and getting killed and the girl was her final option

i feel like it’s a shutter sort of thing, like the narrator’s bf and friends have brought women into the woods together before and killed them, and she was their last victim and they killed her and burned her body (hence the burning smell) and she’s trying to stop them from killing another woman ever again, but that’s just the vibe i got 🤷🏻♀️
I see lots of people suggesting that she actually saved the girl from the bfs sketchy friends, but it'd be equally interesting if the friends didn't even have bad intentions. The ghost was just confused and lashing out because of something similar ending badly for her. I still find the first suggesting more heartwarming though, I would also appreciate a ghost lady's protection :) Edit: after a rewatch I noticed the boys actually almost drove past the trail entrance, so I'm pretty sure the driver was probably innocent? If the story was trying to hint at something, adding this detail instead of taking the opportunity to have the driver suspiciously know the exact right spot doesn't make much sense? Sorry to keep adding I just thought it was interesting!

I'm a skeptic, and even I wouldn't walk through dense woods around nighttime. There's a lot of hazards out there and you could run into a dangerous person if you're unlucky enough.

As soon as I heard a creepy, boney lady in the woods, my slavic ass was like "baba roga!" I would have politely said, "oops, sorry ma'am, I was going on a walk and didn't mean to be here, I'm just gonna go back" before I lost track of where I was like these insane people.
The only old ladies I trust in the woods are the ones I brought in.

@@adrianaheiler9794 Yeah! That's what we call her in Serbia and the parts of Bosnia I'm from. However, countries like Russia and many other Slavic nations call her Baba Yaga - same person, different way to say her name. Look her up! You'll see you are far from alone...
@@FanOfTheMyths I'm in Croatia and my parents and other relatives always called her Baba Roga. But even my godmother asked me 'who's that? I only know of Baba Vjestica' although I had heard of Bana Yaga before, just didn't know back then that they are basically one and the same.

Half the time the assumptions you make based off of their race or sex aren't even correct. It's almost as though biological characteristics don't magically determine your beliefs or opinions.

Shane was absolutely correct about the middle being safest! i believe its how fairly large wolf packs travel. strongest wolves in the front and back, elder wolves, mothers, pups, and sick wolves in the middle, and the leader is keeping a keen eye on their pack and the surroundings (going between front and back).
