What ever happens, Teddi did build this fortress. She is the reason so many people and myself have improved there care. Most people even got pigs because of you, and this all started from Teddi. ❤️ I am praying for her 🫶🏻
I work at a petstore in Europe, and both my boss and I watch your videos. We try our best to take care of the guinea pigs who aren't bought (we have 12 pigs rn, and 9 are rescues that lived in horrible conditions)
I'm so sorry. I have sat and held my pigs as they crossed over the rainbow bridge through the years. It's heart breaking. I try to avoid going to PetSmart and Petco if at all possible. It upsets me so much to see not just the guinea pigs, but all the other small animals in small enclosures and not having their needs met. I wish the stores would stop selling animals. Right now they have adoption days for dog and cat rescues. I think it'd be awesome to include small animal, bird, and reptile rescues too. I would also like to see them sell more appropriate cage and food options.
I don't usually go to places like PetSmart, but once in a while I go for crickets for my spiders. Of course they have guinea pigs, and I always stop by to say hello to them. I don't have any piggies but they're cute and I love to see them and say hello. One thing I will say is every time i go, while I don't know where they came from or their general health - but the lady who takes care of them is so absolutely sweet with them. She feeds them lots of veggies, they always have hay, I will see her talking to them and interacting with them and they are always excited to see her. I would never purchase a pet from them, but that is one thing that I have noted time and time again and it's so lovely because I know not all locations have someone like that lady

I’m new to Guinea pigs. And when we got our baby Guinea pig from a pet store none of the Guinea pigs or rabbits had hay in their cages. Hardly any food or water 😢

I know it seems like feeding is good for them, but when a body is sick, it doesn't always feel like taking in food. Sometimes rest is best, and water...I know her outcome and I'm sorry for your loss. She's such a sweetie. 🧡

My guinea pig Sugar passed away afew months ago and it was though that she had a lung tumour and she had to be put down but now watching this video I think she might of had a URI and since I’ve only just found out about them I think that might be what killed her

I really hope she pulls through. It’s so sad with piggies because they hide their illnesses. Because of that we don’t always realize they’re sick till it’s really bad.
I have three fosters at the moment. What have they been living on? Black mouldy water bottle and Goat Muesli.

the petsmart I go to gets pigs from a local shelter. they're always in pairs (at least), they always have hay, and they frequently have veggies (mostly leafy greens and some carrots from what I've seen). The cages arent the best but they're what the industry would call a "rabbit cage" so better than the tiny fish tank your petco has.
They very rarely have pigs that they are selling (not adopting out for a shelter) but when they do it's usually one of their bigger enclosures that they're in.
my vet always had us do 15 minutes in the nebulizer 2-3 times a day with however much solution we were prescribed per dose and then wait until all the steam dissolved before removing them to make sure they get all of it breathed in
I heard you saying once that it was a lifestyle, and it is! People around me dont understand why I spend so much money on my pets I rescued my 3 cats (one from a shelter, one from a hoarder, and one was to be put down at my vet). I also rescued mice and now 2 rats. And I have one 15 y old dog that I didn't rescue. Def is the center of my life and quite honestlyI dont know what Ill do when he dies. Having pets is a responsibility!

I cannot believe the pigs are in an aquarium , we have a Pets at home in GB, I go in frequently as I love checking on the small pets, I love gerbils, so I always pop in at different times and this is a great idea so you can see how the animals are kept at different times! These animals need us to check in on them we are their spoke person!

I have been doing a lot of work with the local PetSmarts across the Nashville area. While they haven't said who, they have acknowledged that they do obtain their guinea pigs from local breeders and not mills. That's good, assuming that's true. I told them that guinea pigs have to have a constant supply of hay they cannot be on a schedule. Luckily, they have been improving on that. Petco in the Nashville area do have guinea pigs and that's good! Like you said, SPEAK UP!

It’s the same a lot of places in the matters of pet stores, even in the uk they employ people who don’t really care about the animals and the animals look ill every animal we have bought have been sick, they just don’t seem to look after them properly and it only takes a little bit for the animals to have a good life but like you said all they pets are for the company are money and they don’t understand about animals at all and what to do or even how to look after them the right way, it’s crazy these big massive company’s, can’t believe it I agree with everything that you have brought up

Saline solution & 15 or 20 minutes twice a day is what my vet told me.
i’m 16 and i graduated high school early & im going into my first year of college. i’ve thought and thought about what i wanna do when i’m older. i’ve always thought ab being a ot, i’ve thought ab opening a non profit animal sanctuary. but my new idea is i want to open a pet store that has proper care. i’ve never walked into any pet store & saw proper care. i’m sick of the animals not being token care of either. i walked into pet smart the other day saw the worse neglected rabbit i’ve ever saw & came home with him. i couldn’t leave him there with mats in his hair pee all over his fur & NO HAY. i was crying in the middle of the store. i hate supporting business like that but he needed me. i’m genuinely going to look into opening a pet store. and i’m so sorry about teddy i’m praying for her safe recovery from URI. ❤️

Unfortunately when I went to my local petco today and there was a male Guinea pig 50% off who has obviously been there for a while.. he barely had any food of any sorts and the smallest cage ever.. poor guy. I would’ve taken him home if I had the money to build a cage 😕
I'm crying. URIs are the worst & have lost 2 from it. I'm sorry you're going through this. You might want to try Bene Bac. It's a probiotic for when they are on antibiotics. Their tummies get out of whack from the antibiotics. I just smear a little on a 'cookie' like icing. Also, Scotty from Scotty's Animals found an unflavored Pedialyte, if you're looking for something more accessible. I hope she gets better soon!

On your rant about Petco…employees WILL get in trouble for giving too much hay, using too much bedding, feeding a better food, feeding different veggies, etc. Please do not take it out on the employees within in a store, take it out on the corporation. The employees know the proper care for a specific animal, but are prohibited from giving any more care than policy states.

as someone who works in a pet chain store and is about to quit you worded it perfectly. Speaking from someone from the inside i have been trying for months to make change but it all comes down to $$. They don’t care, nor will they ever. “For the people, for the pets”. no it’s just for the people. the pets suffer and when associates speak up managers tell us they have a pet care agenda to follow even if the care in it is wrong. All the animal care in the store is wrong and incorrect, the animals come in terrified and sick but no one’s cares because of money.

My heart goes out to you and teddy I’m sending all the positive vibes! I’m currently dealing with a pig I took on just thinking mom died while she was at a week old but when I got her she was covered in lice had 6 spots of ringworm and on her tiny baby body she had no fur (supposedly a texel) and to top it off she has an uri so I’ve had several sleepless nights just holding her so she won’t itch and go into another seizure. Already had 4 vet visits in the 2 weeks I’ve had her but she is on the road to recovery ❤️🩹 and totally agree I’ve nebulizer my pigs for years it’s definitely the best way to get medication to them fast !

Vet bills in Canada (BC) is ridiculously expensive. I paid $120 CAD for the examination to see the vet. Each x-ray would could me $120 for interpretation and $120 for each x-ray pic. I am really starting to re-consider owning a guinea pig. They are my fav... i owned from fish and beetles to dogs and ferrets, and I find guinea pigs most suitable for me..... but the vet bills are just ridiculous and it gets annoying when the money gets evaporated THAT fast....

i had to put down one of my piggies about a year and a half ago due to a URI/pneumonia. I caught it late and sadly by the time i noticed it, it was too late to treat. It happened so fast. Hoping your pig makes a full recovery!

I work at petco. The enclosures are way too small, the bedding is dusty, and the hay is just trash. When I grab a handful of hay, I have to violently shake all the dust out before I can give it to the Guinea pigs. It’s so dusty and there’s no long strands! Other employees who don’t know better and aren’t educated properly (thank corporate for that) just grab a handful and throw it in thinking it’s enough. It’s not!
We get specific “store use” items and if they run out then we can take it off the shelves. I’ve never been allowed to take oxbow hay… we use kaytee and it’s terrible quality. I’ve purchased the kaytee brand before just to try and I swear the ones we get for store use are the leftovers or something?
I and many other employees have been told not to give the Guinea pigs that much hay… “that’s enough they don’t need that much!” LIKE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. The American humane society comes in to check everything and approves it all.
I wish I could make a big change but I’m busting my butt trying to give these poor piggies the best with what petco allows/ gives us. No one changes the wet bedding other than me. In the whole store I’m the only one. People just let Guinea pigs sit in wet spiked bedding it’s terrible 😞

This lady at Petco tried to sell my grandma a HARNESS and one of those SALT LICKERS as the lady said it’s “good”for them I was so pissed off as my grandma bought it and I told her about how petco and pet smart just want money we returned it but it made me mad that some owners who don’t know how these things
I’m so sorry you and teddy are going through this. Whatever happens, you have given teddy the most wonderful life full of so much love and fun. It’s unfortunate that we don’t get to be with our little ones forever…. But the time we have with them is the stuff magic is made from. I hope teddy has a full recovery💛💛💛.

Hope she recovers well and the vet visit does the job to improve her brerathing. Definitely interested in how you set up the nebulizer, luckily my trio have never had a URI, but it's always good to be prepared in case of an emergency 😖
Edit: I'm with you on the pet store thing back here in the UK, I will not shop with them if they sell animals I would rather drive further to get any emergency supplies....

I agree with you. I get upset ever time I walk into pet co or pet smart. I have 2 guinea pigs and 8 chinchillas. And I get so upset at there care of them. I have talked to the animal care manager for pet smart about chinchilla proper care and cage management. She told me corporate controls the cage inclosure but she will do her best to change the food, bedding, hay. Apple sticks no no plastic in the chinchilla enclosure. Be shall see.. I we can do is speak up and speak for the animal.

I went to the manager at our local PetSmart yesterday when we ran out of oxbow pellets about the hay issue aswell and they r never full and if they r it's in those hay balls that r awful for them I hate these let chains but sometimes we have to run there even though we hate them but when we do it's so infuriating the conditions all the animals are in and the prices they charge for the animals so sad 😢

If she hasn't made any progress I'd be wanting to add in a stronger antibiotic than just the enro. Also possible a steroid to help reduce the inflammation and let her breathe a little easier.
