Yet Carnage did something and flipped some switch and brought the old Joker back. Tn truth....I think Carnage was scared of the Joker. Though this was a Crossover and it has no connection to the canon. Take it as you will.

When you're a kid from a poor family growing up in the 90's, choosing which comics to spend that precious $1.25 on wasn't easy. I've still got my Maximum Carnage comics I got back in those days, several of them with covers that came off after reading them too much. I was never really into Spider-Man or Venom and considered myself mostly just an X-Men fanboy but that series is what helped open me up to the greater world of Marvel.
I hate how we dont get villains like Carnage as much as before in stories nowadays. A lot of people can't accept villains unless they have some reason to do whatever they want. I just love how simple Carnage was man. All psychotic and murderous. Dude was brutal at.
I would recommend AT LEAST reading Carnage Born before Absolute Carnage. It recounts the origin of Carnage, explains what happened to him post-Venomized, and sets up his goal of killing everyone who ever wore a Symbiote

You then take that character and give him something to care about Shriek in essence was that plot hook and her need to create a family adopting a group of villains was unique storytelling.
One detail regarding the creation of Carnage: Erik Larsen didn't actually design the Carnage symbiote, he was only involved with the creation of Cletus Kasady the individual. The Carnage symbiote was actually designed and first drawn by Mark Bagley. Thanks for the video though, Rob. I went on memory lane for a good part of this video
I remember being a kid in the 90s and watching the spiderman cartoon and seeing Carnage for the first time. It was an amazing time. I thought Venom was super dope and seeing an even more powerful, more dangerous version was epic.
One thing I really wish would happen is getting more love for the other symbiotes like Hybrid. Venom is really the only symbiote that gets a lot of fame while the others are left in the dust, Carnage least of all but still.

I'm inclined to agree that he did peak in the 90's. He was a cool villain, if you liked Venom you were gonna like Carnage. So a lot of why I still like the character is rooted in nostalgia. There's a reason why I have Amazing Spider-Man 300 and 361 framed hanging on my wall. Has he been impactful and exceedingly groundbreaking in recent time? No. But I still love him for what he is. You know, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has done some really cool arcs based around the Dark Hold. The first, the villain wanted to gain the powers of creation by stealing elements from the quantum realm and the other was an LMD that wanted to take over SHIELD
