The two thing that I’m most impressed by this is that for one, it’s the ONLY practice amp I’ve ever seen with a built in noise gate! You normally have to buy an expensive amp head to get a built in noise gate.
Secondly, I’ve seen you demo plenty of guitars through that impressive rack of amp heads behind you and I honestly love the sounds coming out of this thing over those amp heads.
That one wheeled scooter thing was a really expensive accident waiting to happen...
I sure wouldn't ride that thing with a guitar I like.

I own all the original THR amps and when I bought the new one - it just buried the others ....the sound is much better - the touch and feel while playing is incredible!!!.....best bedroom amp ever !!!!!
Yeah, I was wondering how much of a difference there was. Already have a Micro Cube to practice on, so don't need one of these, but they're definitely at the top of the list as the next potential portable amp.
Buried? You sure about that? I'm fine with my THR 10C. Couldn't care less about new equipment any more. My apartment turned into a gear locker. Fuck that buying crap. I'm focusing on playing and writing now. Enough supporting those huge companies.
I own a THR10, first version - great thing, tones are fantastic so kudos for the binaural recording setup - that shows the real experience. The only thing for me that is missing with the THR series now to make it the ultimate practice amp is an included looper (or alternatively, an FX loop to plug one into it and still be able to overdub different sounds).
if you get the wireless version, you can use one line-out channel back into aux to do a looper. i went out to get the thr10xii exactly because i am thinking about modifying my thr10x just to have an effects loop (the modification is a bit beyond my skill level). i was a bit disappointed that it has no line-out.
If Yamaha put out a THR with a effects loop, I get another one. It's the only thing that I kind of miss (it works great with a Trio+, albeit a lot of cables flying around then)

Using the headphones is really blowing my mind with how good it sounds now.
Can you plug this amp in to the mains ( wall ) or does it always work of the batteries ? Do you have to buy rechargeable batteries and keep recharging them ? Want to get this as I bought the spark and hated it, would be grateful for the advice.

Finally someone talks about busking with it - was kinda unsure bcs every other review only was talmking about how quiet it is.
There's a setting on the app called eco charge that stops the transmitter not charging when the amp is off.

I discovered the Pacifica 611 by stumbling across your channel one day and I actually bought one because of it. It’s been the best playing and sounding guitar I’ve ever owned. Now you’ve turned me on to this amazing little amp and I just bought one online from Musician’s Friend. Can’t wait till it arrives!
Love these amps. Heard one of these recently and it was amazing. Yamaha make great stuff. This amp is a bit expensive for my pocket but it's so flexible and has so much packed into it I would save up for it rather than buying loads of individual pedals.

Henning, the G10 Relay needs the pin to be pushed in to be able to charge and it turns off automatically after 10 minutes when it is plugged in but is neither charged nor moved and therefore conserves the battery. That's why it does not work for bass players.
The adapter is for acoustic guitars with integrated pre-amp, otherwise it would try to be charged from the guitar. The adapter converts the guitar plug from stereo to mono which makes the G10 work as a transmitter again. Same goes for active electric guitars with some onboard booster or active PUs. It's nice to see that they include the adapter now, I had to try and find that exact thing and paid dearly to be able to play my acoustics wirelessly.

@@mervolicious Since you seem knowledgeable, why does the Boss Wl-20 work with both passive and active basses if the G10 won't?
Faethe I can‘t say why the Boss one works since I am only using the G10 but as far as I understand it the G10 abuses a stereo jack to get the charging going (I imagine one channel for playing, one for charging) and with a mono adapter you‘d kill the charging channel so it works with active outputs again (which I guess also use stereo to „turn on/off“) without trying to charge from their batteries. Boss seems to use a mono plug and some form of intelligent charge recognition, maybe an internal chip of some kind?

I updated the firmware and it quit working. I called Yamaha customer support and couldn't be fixed. I returned it and got something else. Hopefully you have better luck.
I prefer the 30 because it has a usable effects loop effectively. It has line outs. You send that to the first effect in your chain (or a looper), and send it back to aux in with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter. It's the best feature on the 30. Makes using something like a digitech trio plus a dream. Just send 1 channel if your effect chain starts mono, use both for stereo. The 10's don't have line outs unfortunately.
Aux in works on the THR10II. I am actually using a Trio+ in this configuration, the drums and bass go clean, the loop goes through the modelling, works great.

loving this amp. The low end is so tight and punchy. Really has a premium-ish sound. So, so much better than going direct into an interface and using soft amps, whether going USB, Line outs through interface, or if you mic it.

Just upgraded to this from a THR10C. Nice bit of kit. A couple issues. 1. It, appears, no longer possible to write presets to the library. This was easy with the THR10C. The 30ii limits the user to the 5 slots on the amp. 2. The THR App for android sucks - period. If you intend this for home use, plugged into a pc/mac via PC - no problem. It's a great little amp.
Agree. The app does not work on Android. Very disappointing.

You didn't mention: When operated on the battery, the THR 30ii drops to 15W ( 7.5 + 7.5 ).
But in context , that's still 50% more Watts than the THR 10 .

I just pulled the trigger on the THR30II, I didn’t before just cause I was putting the money together , the idea of other practice amps is good but the apps and all the bells and whistles I think are distractores from the actual goal Practice!!! but now I’m ready for some good toned at low volumes and no excuses to practice EVERYWHERE!!!!

The foam wrapping may, in fact, be more environmentally friendly than paper products like corrugated cardboard. About 10 years ago (or so), some manufacturers developed foam packing materials made from corn starch, which is biodegradable. In the landfill, sunlight and/or bacteria just break down the material into decayed corn.
What's the problem with plastic not degrading? Glass isn't degrading at all and I've never heard it's environmentally unfriendly...
@@bakters Petroleum based polymers do degrade, but slowly and produce toxins in the process of doing so. If the process is slow enough, it isn't actually harmful, as the bio-mechanisms of Earth just process it. But in the interim, polymer films and other lightweight forms such as packing peanuts, clog up circulatory systems of water and soil migration, and often interfere with living processes of large-scale ecosystems. Glass, on the other hand, is just sand, and through agitation, over time just degrades into sand. And, my original point was/is, the packing material in this case may be corn starch based plastic, which is naturally and quickly biodegradable without harmful by-products.

It's all a matter off scale. Large scale dumps of organic packing material will pollute way more than plastics, which do not degrade as quickly.
So, what's the point in switching from petroleum to starch, if it's all about scale anyways?

Thanks, another useful session! Let me share something I consider is a big advantage of the built-in receiver: this is much better than external wireless kits. Reason: less AD/DA conversion. The wireless plug converts the guitar signal to digital, which will remain digital during the entire DSP process inside the amp. In case of external wireless kits, guitar signal is converted to digital, then on the amp-side plug, it gets converted back to analog. This is needed since guitar amp inputs are analog. Then the DSP inside the amp converts it to digital again.

Excellent video and funny you cleared up a few questions I had about which one I should consider buying
I love the original. The new switch set up is cool. Looks a little more plasticy then the original but thats not a problem. I bought a bluetooth connector online and it worked fine. It is great to be able to pass the guitar around easily and everyone can have a jam. I seem to remember there was a whole bunch of classic amp presets available for download also. Price appears a little higher now but Yamaha make great synths, they know how to model sound well.
And what about the battery lifetime, and when it's over, what price the replecement battery is?

I've bougth the THR 10 II W - and have a lot of fun with it
I leave my katana air in standby mode so the transmitter still charges , however I'm not 100% happy with my Katana air(the amp is fine the operation of it via the app needs work) they made it too hard to use with the app. Wish I could use the computer to edit the tones like you can with the katana 50 etc , I don't know why they did that to be honest...Its rather annoying since the app wont auto rotate to landscape mode on my Ipad. Nice amp this THRII my buddy just got the THRII10 just the other day

Yes you can, the line6 uses a different wireless technology which is not Bluetooth, so no interference at all.
Saw the thumbnail and thought about the price coming from an original THR10...especially if you look at MSRP!

I own the THR10II Wireless, and I love it! I can't believe that something that small can sounds that good! But now I'm wondering if THR30 wireless is even better? I'm really hyped, should I upgrade it to THR30 or no? I'm playing just in home.

Henning: I have tried nearly every one of these kinds of desktop amps over the last couple of years, including the stuff from Boss, Blackstar, Vox, Nux and Yamaha. Indeed, to my ears, the Yamaha TH series always sounded "the best" of all. However, there may be a new king on the block - the Positive Grid Spark.
I first saw it a couple of months ago in a Tom Quayle/Dawson's music vid. With no exaggeration, if the Spark does even HALF of what Positive Grid is saying it will, it is a complete gamechanger in this space. I have never purchased any piece of guitar gear over the last 3+ decades without first holding it and trying it first hand. Still, I am so excited by this Positive Grid product that I just purchased it online. On top of all the unprecedented features Positive Grid is claiming, the asking price for pre-orders right now is a crazy reasonable 225USD.
I really hope you can look into this Spark, but I am now eagerly awaiting my own delivery...Cheers!

I have the yellow and the green one from the first series, they are killer amps. They even took pedals quite good (I tried an OKKO in the front of the yellow one and I could not believe my years). After that I got the THR100HD which is really freaking awesome. I hope you'll get to test one of these someday.

@@EytschPi42 Wow! I’ve never heard of Vola Guitars before but the pure Strat tones coming out of that thing were better than the American 🇺🇸 made Strats. After visiting the site and discovering they’re made in Japan, now I know why they’re so damn good! It just seems like ever since the FujiGen plant set the standard for amazing quality, American makers haven’t been able to measure up since. Even Fender has realized this by re-issuing their Japanese made Aerodyne series of guitars and basses. Also, it was very modest of you to title the video “Noodling On The Vola” because that was some superb improvisation/playing for that demo!

Even through the 3dio, the sound reminds me a lot of the original THR10 I just sold to get the THR30.

I just bought the THR10ii, and already had the THR10x. The packaging on these is really ambiguous. They all look the same. I didn't realize that I downgraded to no battery power, and no switching between the old v1 color models without the phone app. I didn't realize it would not even have Line Out, which you can use to simulate an effects loop on the other models. However...
In any case, I still like it. You could easily spend as much on just a pedal. Using the phone based editor to just make 5 great presets is good enough for me. You can do some very lush effects that are impossible with just the dials.
for high gain amps, you really need to disable the gate. otherwise, you get un-natural cutoffs when you are playing it with volume knob low.
Anybody have problems after downloading the update on the amp? My line 6 receiver plug doesn't work now?! Was there something i needed to do in settings before or after the download?

I have the G10 and left it in its box with the base all put away like when i bought it. Now it wont charge or play anymore. Everything I buy from Line 6 is broken. Everything. I have 3 pedal boards and the G10 and I am afraid to buy anything else from them.

This is the best busking amp I’ve ever seen. the 100 head is a cool unit too both channels at once if you’re so inclined & if you’re cabs are in mind. The tones are more than fine they’re simply Divine . If I had cash the THR30IIW would be mine 👍🏽

Thanks,, again....but...what is the horrid buzz? Say around 18:00? Is that the amp or an artifact originating somewhere else?
Most likely the single coil pickup in the neck as he was in that position at the time. single coils are notorious for hum with high gain, normal.
There's also a noise gate in the app you can apply if you so choose to help remedy the issue.

This THR30 or Voxac15 or Bassbreaker15 in terms of bedroom volume levels but retain the best tone of it?
I have THR10 but I want an tube amp, its just worries me that these tube amp can't be the best like a tube amp tone in low volume. Or else, I just upgrade to THR30 again 😔
