I can't get over the thought of how does one get to the point of building illegal structures or expensive premises on road corridors and think it was going to fly in the Gambia easily and will unnoticeable draw any attention to the Gambian authorities. They must have overestimated their chances of getting over under the radar thinking in their minds, if it is ok for the Goose then it must be ok for the Gander. This should be a lesson learned to take extra safety precaution next time someone want to build anything outside their fence line instead of building inside their compounds and NOT over step their boundary line.. This has to be a continuous process and a walk through mandatory routine to prevent such encroachment by alerting people from intruding or invading a public property by trying to claim ownership of it for their own personal interest or run business services without legal authorization of occupancy...

@@beanerschnitzel794 I don't believe that it was ever allowed and accepted by the Law..The Law never allows anything that is against a written Law of the Land. They may have been complacent or too lenient in their approached or perhaps turned a blind eyes to the illegal encroachment for quite some time because Gambia wasn't in a state of development at the time to perhaps enforced its Laws as we witness, but now the tides has turned around with such fast demand of rapid growth of commercial, industrial businesses and residential homes, everyone seems to be in demand scrambling for a little piece of a FREE land to attach to their original land as an extension only to profit from it by claiming ownership and entitlement of public property hoping and thinking Gambian authorities will never catch on by paying notice or take any action against such illegal intrusion of encroachment..They have surely underestimated the Law on their miscalculations as an oversight of such illegality of their ways in doing unethical business conduct and not have the slightest clue a day like this would come to bite them. Yes in the Gambia we can move slow when it comes to taking Actions against the law of the Land, but we always caught up when the right time comes..Let's just say it is an unfortunate situation based on purely an act of selfish interest on their part and it came to teach everyone a hard lesson to never ever over step one's boundaries under any circumstances. Stick to what you have and build inside your compound and not outside your fence line Period.

Does anyone realize that by planting grass on sand you are stopping soil erosion and the sand being washed on to the road? The sand washrd onto the road brvomes an agent og attrition during the rainy season. The wet sand is ground into the tarmac and wears it down causing potholes. No one bothers about sweeping the sand or keeping the sand of the road. People planting grass on their frontage help to keep the sand off the road!!!!. But them we Gambians love our sandy roads . Reminds us of the village .

It's really painful but it's an extension on the road. I believe the authorities should have prevented it before the owners spent such money and later asked to remove it spending money again. It's very very painful

This is a classic example of land utility that near the public road. If something not right for the building, they need to have the right permits. These businesses are great for their economy. It’s just that the landowners should had check with authority before building.

Car parking spaces should be factored and identified so that the main roads will be free. Those that working and parking their cars for 8 to 9 hrs should be able to park somewhere instead of the highways thus making it easier for commercial vehicles and pedestrians on the roads.
